[Bug 1748597] [NEW] Please backport fix for bugs.debian.org/827015

2018-02-09 Thread David Bartley
Public bug reported:

https://bugs.debian.org/827015 was incorporated into the 1.2 package
(present on bionic); it would be really nice to backport that fix to all
prior releases (though I mostly care about trusty and xenial).

Without this fix, libunwind will corrupt the signal mask, which breaks
the CPU profiler in MongoDB, among other things.

** Affects: libunwind (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1732520] Re: RM due to diaspora-installer installation fails

2018-02-09 Thread Steve Langasek
The current version of this package does not fail its autopkgtests.
There should be no reason to use block-proposed bugs for packages which
fail their autopkgtests anyway, failing autopkgtests are already
enforced in proposed-migration.

[Bug 1740169] Re: machine sleeps immediately after waking

2018-02-09 Thread ill
lg webos tv. I never selected xorg package...

Is there a way to make ubuntu not queue sleep commands? I think the tv
sends out about 5 shutdown commands using cec, then if the machine
doesn't sleep fast enough it will queue them.

So once it gets a sleep command, ignore others until it wakes up again.

[Bug 1716741] Re: [artful] After killing Google Chrome, X.org crashes

2018-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Oded Arbel, closing as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1716741/comments/38
given this is no longer reproducible.

** Description changed:

  Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no
  repaint.

  If I then kill the process (it seems to happen both for TERM and KILL),
  the Google Chrome windows close and everything seems to work for a some
  short time (less than a minute) and then I get kicked out of the
  session.

  Looking at the Xorg.0.log.old, I see this:

Re: [Bug 1748543] Re: intel-microcode when installed on an i7-6850k based system running Artful breaks overclock

2018-02-09 Thread Robert Dinse
I did get a recent BIOS upgrade from Asus, it now shows non-vulnerable
for both variants of Spectre and for Meltdown with 3.13.0-33 kernel, so I'm
good, don't know how this might impact folks with other motherboards.

[Bug 1748586] [NEW] Segfault when library is linked using "-Bsymbolic-functions"

2018-02-09 Thread Michael Biebl
Public bug reported:

https://github.com/grpc/grpc/issues/11195

The grpc library is broken as it has been compiled with
"-Bsymbolic-functions". This makes the library unusuable.
-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions should be stripped from LD_FLAGS when building on
Ubuntu.

** Affects: grpc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

really fix the systemd translations. Can you please provide a couple of
examples of actions when the strings in the .policy files show up?

[Bug 1748366] Re: LibreOffice 6.0.0.3 missing Elementary icons?

2018-02-09 Thread fermulator
Oh, and, we probably want to know the apt policy like you asked :)

Ran this on the original system (Ubuntu 17.10) I observed it on:

{{{
$ apt policy libreoffice-style-elementary

[Bug 1748366] Re: LibreOffice 6.0.0.3 missing Elementary icons?

2018-02-09 Thread fermulator
Indeed not! Co-incidentally I uncovered this and when I came back to the
report Olivier you've already guessed it.

{{{
$ apt search libreoffice-style
v   libreoffice-style
-

p   libreoffice-style-breeze
- office productivity suite -- Breeze symbol style

v   libreoffice-style-default
-

p   libreoffice-style-elementary
- office productivity suite -- Elementary symbol style

p   libreoffice-style-galaxy
- office productivity suite -- Galaxy (Default) symbol style

p   libreoffice-style-hicontrast
- office productivity suite -- Hicontrast symbol style

p   libreoffice-style-human
- transitional package for Human symbol style

i   libreoffice-style-mint
- Linux Mint theme for LibreOffice.org

p   libreoffice-style-oxygen
- office productivity suite -- Oxygen symbol style

p   libreoffice-style-sifr
- office productivity suite -- Sifr symbol style

p   libreoffice-style-tango
- office productivity suite -- Tango symbol style
}}}

I think the expectation here is that we would automatically get the full
suite of libreoffice-style packages via dependencies ... but that may
not be reality. Any reason why it can't be?

Trying to understand that technically, the main libreoffice package
suite doesn't "technically" depend on these style sub-packages; however
from an end-user perspective, it seems desirable to automatically
include.

WORKAROUND ATTEMPTS:

{{{
$ sudo apt install -y libreoffice-style-*
}}}

Not quite good:
{{{
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libreoffice-style-mint : Conflicts: libreoffice-style-human but
1:6.0.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo7 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

}}}

On my _other_ system (mint) obviously the user would want to keep the
mint theme ...

What ended up working for me (which should be helpful to others in the interim)
{{{
$ for pkg in $(apt search libreoffice-style- -F %p | egrep -v "human|default");
do sudo apt install -y $pkg; done
}}}

As mentioned in other comments here, one workaround is to restart sddm

[Bug 1748543] Re: intel-microcode when installed on an i7-6850k based system running Artful breaks overclock

(for the record: this bug should be set to "won't fix", as in "**can't**

state on the bug report).

It might be fixed by Intel in a future microcode update, but unless
someone tests this and tell us about it, we won't even know about it
being fixed.

[Bug 1748543] Re: intel-microcode when installed on an i7-6850k based system running Artful breaks overclock

2018-02-09 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
Robert, you have a -K part, which officially "doesn't forbid"
overclocking as far as I know, and this is the only reason I have not
immediately closed this bug as invalid.

It looks like now you get to find out if that means Intel *supports*
overclocking or not on -K processors, instead of just passively not
blocking it outright: start with ASUS support, it is possible that a
properly updated BIOS/UEFI would still allow overclocking on the new
microcode.

For the record, updating the MSRs for overclocking *after* the microcode
is loaded on the processor, as opposed to updating the microcode *after*
the overclocking was done by the UEFI/BIOS *can* make all the
difference. That means your BIOS/UEFI needs to have the latest
microcode update (and you won't need the intel-microcode package).

If ASUS can't help you, good luck contacting Intel about this...

[Bug 1748581] [NEW] ubuntu-release-upgrader will need to know how to switch snaps between Ubuntu release channels during an upgrade

2018-02-09 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

As part of the plan for including snaps in Ubuntu images by default
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuSeededSnaps), we intend for the snap
installs to be pinned to (possibly empty) per-Ubuntu-release channels in
the Snap Store.

This means that as part of a dist upgrade, ubuntu-release-upgrader will
need to switch the channels of any relevant installed snaps from the
channel for one release, to the channel for the next release, with snap
refresh.

(In many cases both channels will be empty and this will involve
downloading no new snaps, just changing the pin on the client.)

Since 18.04 is the first release with snaps by default, this doesn't
need to be implemented in 18.04; but will need to be supported by the
release upgrader in 18.10 at latest.

[Bug 1598312] Re: Cannot scale AMD Turion CPU frequency. It runs on lowest 800MHz

2018-02-09 Thread WSmart
Thanks for all the work everyone put into developing this, Vladimir in
particular. The acpi=noirq work around is working here. I wanted to
add, along with the scaling and the reboot fail issues, I also was not
able to run ubiquity. The installer would crash giving me
freedesktop.org errors. I installed xfce4-power-manger to the live
environment and was able to use ubiquity and install the system from
there, booting to the 800mhz scaling limit.

Thanks all.

Because qesteidutil also uses libp11, which has been updated to build
against libssl-dev, qesteidutil can't simply change its build-
dependencies to use openssl1.0 instead.

Since this blocks updating to the openssl1.1 version of libp11 in
bionic, qesteidutil will be removed from the bionic release pocket (and
left in bionic-proposed for now) pending resolution of this issue. If
someone wants to have qesteidutil included in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, they
will need to address this openssl 1.1 incompatibility.

2018-02-09 Thread gregrwm
no lockup today. probably because i used far fewer firefox tabs. i
suspect xorg gets into trouble under the strain of thrashing. i suspect
this is a new issue because the new version of firefox recently
introduced into xenial has a significantly larger memory footprint.
tomorrow perhaps i'll try with more tabs open.

[Bug 1716741] Re: [artful] After killing Google Chrome, X.org crashes

2018-02-09 Thread Oded Arbel
I have ran the tool a few times because it seemed to be crashing - at
first it wouldn't run at all complaining about missing PyQT, so I
installed python-qt-binding; then it seemed to be crashing due to
missing pathlib, so I installed that as well and ran it again.

Regarding the original problem, I have to say that in the last few
months Chrome has been relatively stable and I hadn't needed to call it,
so I didn't encounter that specific problem for a while now.

[Bug 1716741] UdevDb.txt

2018-02-09 Thread Oded Arbel
apport information

** Attachment added: "UdevDb.txt"
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716741/+attachment/5052275/+files/UdevDb.txt

** Description changed:

  Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no
  repaint.

  If I then kill the process (it seems to happen both for TERM and KILL),
  the Google Chrome windows close and everything seems to work for a some
  short time (less than a minute) and then I get kicked out of the
  session.

  Looking at the Xorg.0.log.old, I see this:
