[Bug 1754425] Re: 18.04 3.27 Gnome-shell Near-Fatalities

2018-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

This certainly looks like a kernel bug or hardware failure. Your errors
coming from the 'pcieport' kernel module appear to correlate with errors
from the 'nvme' module (for a solid state hard drive). So I think that's
the problem area, which will indeed slow down everything and make
various hardware devices non-responsive.

Your description also mentions wifi issues (which would be your
'ath10k_pci' kernel module) but I think that's most likely a side-effect
of the PCIe problems from the former.

If I had to guess then you probably need one of:
  (a) a kernel bug fix; or
  (b) a new solid state drive; or
  (c) a new motherboard.

We'll wait and see what the kernel people say...

[Bug 1754294] Re: After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, some apps are removed.

2018-03-12 Thread Rocko
FWIW, I got opera-stable and viber to install with libcurl4 by
extracting their debs, manually editing their control file to say
libcurl3|libcurl4, recreating the deb using the "ar -r" command, and
then using dpkg -i to reinstall. They run fine but of course I haven't
been able to test all their functionality.

[Bug 1755358] [NEW] enosys test in ubuntu_stress_smoke test will terminates the user session on Artful ARM64

2018-03-12 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

When testing this enosys test in the ubuntu_stress_smoke_test, the
session will be terminated. This issue can be reproduced with 4.13.0-36
and the proposed 4.13.0-37, it looks like it's the tool issue.

Steps:
  1. Deploy a Moonshot ARM64 node with 17.10
  2. Run the stress smoke test with:
sudo apt-get install git python-minimal -y
git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest-client-tests -b
master-next
git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest
rm -fr autotest/client/tests
ln -sf ~/autotest-client-tests autotest/client/tests
AUTOTEST_PATH=/home/ubuntu/autotest sudo -E autotest/client/autotest-local
--verbose autotest/client/tests/ubuntu_stress_smoke_test/control

Result:

is no hover effect at all.

** Description changed:

- If I close the lid, it seems that the computer flat-out doesn't wake up.
+ If I open the lid, it seems that the computer flat-out doesn't wake up.
HOWEVER, if I wait patiently more than 20 seconds, and press (not hold)
the power button, SOMETIMES, the computer will "snap out of it" and come
back to my desktop. Although RAM is 25% used, and CPU usage is around
25-50% or less (depending on apps), mouse will regularly freeze up for
some seconds every 10 seconds or so. Wifi will claim to be "on", but
there aren't any networks in the "select network" dialogue. Turning wifi
off and then on does not fix this problem. So I'll be in this terrifying
state of non-responsive every few seconds computer, with no ability to
reconnect to networks and report bug.

I force restart. The first restart, upon login, will hang indefinitely
on a purple screen with the cursor in the middle. I will have to force
restart again. Upon 2nd restart, it will boot "normally".

have different volume.

Second, it's interesting you say a few weeks ago because the latest
pulseaudio update is only a few weeks old:

Maybe try downloading and manually installing the previous version's

[Bug 1749689] Re: Lenovo Yoga 11S touchpad is jittery

2018-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Fixed in libinput master. Not sure when the fix will be released...

commit 1523d8bb2e066bec297f7a03ce4a0d8cada8f383
Author: Peter Hutterer
Date: Mon Mar 5 13:17:43 2018 +1000

Extract and reset the abs fuzz value for the x/y axes

The kernel fuzz handling is buggy, especially when we want to rely on the
fuzz
value for our hysteresis. But since this is a hw property and (at least
sometimes) set by the driver, we can't make this a pure libinput hwdb set
either.

So our workaround is:
* extract the (non-zero) fuzz into a udev property so we don't lose it
* set the fuzz to 0 to disable the in-kernel hysteresis
* overwrite our internal absinfo with the property fuzz

This way we get to use the hw-specified fuzz without having the kernel muck
around with it. We also get to use the EVDEV_ABS_ values in 60-evdev.hwdb to
override a driver-set fuzz.

Two drawbacks:
- we're resetting the kernel fuzz to 0, this affects any other users of the
device node. That's probably a minor impact only.
- we can only save this in a udev property there's a risk of this
information
getting lost when playing around with udev rules. That too should be a
minor
  issue.

[Bug 1754685] Re: unity

2018-03-12 Thread Daniel Convissor
Upgraded unity and a bunch of other packages on 2018-03-09. After
rebooting the next time, a crash dialog appeared. The unity interface
didn't load. Clicked the report bug button.

The computer and I did the same thing on rebooting this evening to
examine the logs.

Date: Mon Mar 12 20:52:02 2018 [That's Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-4]

The title line in the crash log is:

Re: [Bug 1754993] Re: will not accept password, Will not reboot

2018-03-12 Thread Winston Elias
Hello Tech Support;

My problems are just getting worse. My 16.04 desktop stopped accepting my
password.
After many attempts and after checking online for help and finding that
nothing worked I
attempted to install 18.08. That is what caused me to send in that crash
report.

On the second attempt I got much further before that crash occurred with
the option to
continue. It installed but the pointer kept going around and around as
though something
was still being installed. That stayed on for almost 2 hours until I
stopped it. I was then
instructed to eject the DVD and press Enter. I was able to go online check
several different
things while all the while the pointer kept going round and around.

I restarted the computer once more and the 18.08 installation disappeared
completely.
Now when I attempt to start it it goes right back to my original problem
insisting that I put
in my password. The DVD gets ejected every time I insert it into the drive.
I cannot boot
from the DVD neither can I find the installed version of 18.04.

I need HELP ASAP.

W Elias

[Bug 1755326] [NEW] Periodic glitch in sound with Firewire and snd-dice

2018-03-12 Thread Kim Ake
Public bug reported:

I have a fresh installation of Ubuntu 17.10 with almost nothing extra
installed yet besides Bitwig Studio, Cadence and a few other things from
the KX Studio repositories.

But I also tried the bug after a fresh install with nothing else than
Bitwig Studio installed, it's the same.

I have a TC Electronics Impact Twin Firewire audio interface.
It is connected to a Iocrest SY-PEX30016 PCI-E card, which has a Texas
Instruments XIO2213BZAY chipset.

The ALSA snd-dice drivers work, but with glitches.

There is a periodic, glitch in the sound that sounds like a part of the stream
is missing, or something. It is steady in timing, nothing seems to have an
effect on it.
Recording seems to work. All outputs and inputs, also the ADAT outputs seem to
work, altough I could not test if the ADAT outputs feature the glitch too.

Seemingly randomly there might be a short maybe around 0.3 second total
break in the sound.

I'm not getting xruns at all.

I tried also Ubuntu Studio live USB, it has the exact same glitch. I
also tried a Native Instruments Audio2DJ USB interface, with that there
is no problem with the sound on my computer.

I tried also with Carla and ZynAddSubFx, and also with the live USB of
Linux Mint (current version), and the same glitch is present.

I tried also another Firewire controller card with a XIO2200A Texas
Instruments chip, it features the same glitch, but running a different
speed.

I had a KX Studio 14.x installation a few years ago, where the interface
was working without a hitch. But then I was running with FFADO.

So to me it seems that the kernel integration of snd-dice has some
problem with timing with a TC Electronics interface?

I could not get FFADO to run with Jack now so I can't say if the FFADO
implementation would work.

[Bug 1733557] Re: Login screen showing Authentication Failure Switch to greeter...

2018-03-12 Thread Edu
Same issue in my laptop Lenovo G40-80 I think after some apt-get
update/upgrade it has started. (Between 2 or 3 weeks ago)

I'm the only user of this computer. There is only my user and admin is disabled.
I use Virtual Box and it was upgraded recently to Version 5.1.34 r121010
(Qt5.5.1).

If I lock screen it don't happens immediately. It happens only after screen
goes blank.
Then I have to click on "switch to greeter" in password field and wait some
seconds to screen changes and I be able to insert password.

[Bug 844582] Re: "Invalid argument" when trying to scan

2018-03-12 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Hans, we can certainly disagree. But it seems you as well as some of
the upstream devs do not understand much about packaging. If you want
timely fixes, pay someone to do it. If you want to make a mess of your
system, install random packages. I'm fine with any of that. I'm not
fine if then such person comes back and waste Ubuntu devs time with a
problem they did not create or gives Ubuntu a bad name that they did not
deserve in this case. I hope that makes sense.

BTW, scanner support is the responsibility of the manufacturer, don't
you think? Have you complained to them about lack of FOSS support?
Have you taken this into consideration when you purchased your scanner?
Or have you simply purchased whatever was cheapest? IMO, what is not
acceptable is buying cheap, unsupported stuff and then complaining to
people doing a LOT of work for you for free. Last comment, if you feel
that all of this is so unacceptable then have you rolled up your sleeve
and provided a patch or at least tried to?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1755307/+attachment/5077531/+files/lspci-vnvn.log

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

  Steps to Reproduce:
  - Ubuntu-32 16.04.1 on ASUS-F200MA
  - last Update in Dec 2017 with Linux Kernel 4.4.0-104
  - Update in Mar 2018 with Linux Kernel 4.4.0-116
  - Reboot

  Result:
  - Boot hangs with Ubuntu-Startscreen in wrong Resolution 800x600 instead
1366x768.
  - The dots are moving, but nothing more happens.

The Boot with Linux Kernel 4.4.0-104 still works and all hardware too, so I
uninstalled 4.4.0--116 and manually installed Linux Kernel 4.4.0-108
  Result:
  - Boot successful with Ubuntu-Startscreen, but again in wrong Resolution
800x600.
  - After login: wrong graphic resolution: 800x600, switch to 1366x768 not
possible, no Sound, no network connection etc.

  Installing HWE Kernel with:
  - sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04
xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04

  Result:
  - The system aigain works correctly.

2018-03-12 Thread Jim
