[Bug 1768739] [NEW] Hyper-V "type clipboard text" option freezes OS

2018-05-02 Thread Shadus Black
Public bug reported:

When using Hyper-V with Windows Server 2016 and Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS
the "type clipboard text" inside the view port of the VMs console and
having a string in the clipboard, pasting causes the operating system to
become completely unresponsive and requires a hard external reboot to
unfreeze the system. Upon logging in again, old processes like a Nano
session seem to still exist.

[Bug 1768741] [NEW] hplip does not wake up printer

2018-05-02 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04 fresh install
Printer: Color Laserjet Pro MFP M477fdw

The printer suspends after 5 mins to save power.

Expected: A print request should wake the printer and print.
Actual: The printer queue goes on hold

Mitigation measures:
1) wake printer manually (from the display) + unpause queue -> does not print
2) wake printer manually + restart queue -> does not print
3) restart printer (WHY???) + unpause queue -> PRINTS !!!

This behaviour can be reproduced in 18.04 and does not exist in previous
versions of Ubuntu

[Bug 1746200] Re: Boot freeze due to intel-microcode

2018-05-02 Thread Stephane
Today, I retried "intel-microcode" on Xubuntu 18.04 fresh install and I
was able to reboot 6 times in a row without any freeze.

~$ dmesg | grep microcode
[0.00] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0xc2, date =
2017-11-16
[0.987572] microcode: sig=0x506e3, pf=0x20, revision=0xc2
[0.987975] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.

So, it looks that the bug has been repaired by that linux v4.15 branch.

[Bug 1768734] [NEW] restoring edge tiled windows with client-side decorations shrinks them

2018-05-02 Thread mtvoid
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 with a vanilla GNOME session under Wayland (the
issue presents with the default Ubuntu session too). I've encountered
this issue with applications that use Client-Side window decorations,
which is most of the GNOME applications. Windows with borders drawn
through the window manager do not have this issue.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open an application that uses client-side decorations, e.g. gnome-terminal.
2. Edge tile the window by snapping the window to the left or right screen edge
via dragging or Super+left/right keyboard shortcut.
3. Unsnap the window to restore it to its non-tiled state.

Expected behaviour:
The position and dimensions of the window after undoing the edge tiling should
be restored to exactly what it was prior to tiling.

Observed behaviour:
Every time the window is unsnapped from the edge, its size gets smaller.
Repeating it over and over will lead to it eventually shrinking to the minimum
possible size.

I've found this issue only with client-side decorated windows, and only while
restoring from split view / edge tiling. Restoring from a normal maximized
state is ok.

[Bug 1718238] Re: Giant terminal icon is blocking out the Terminal window buttons

2018-05-02 Thread Andrew Enderson
I upgraded from 17.10 to 18.04 today, and I still have this problem as well.
In response to comment 21:

Is the icon really giant (144x144) or smaller (48x48)?
It is smaller after the upgrade to 18.04.

Does installing/removing gnome-icon-them do anything for you?
Yes, installing the gnome-icon-them as per comment 8 appears to fix the issue;
uninstalling the gnome-icon-them causes the issue to return.

What size is the icon reported as when executing xprop from gnome-terminal and
clicking on the gnome-terminal window?
When the issue is present, xprop reports: _NET_WM_ICON(CARDINAL) = Icon (48 x
48):

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-02 Thread Sum Sim
I have a kinda similar problem on xubuntu 18.04. And had that problem on
xubuntu 16.04.

After I type the password, there is only desktop wallpaper and mouse
pointer (it moves). Then I press Ctr-Alt-Del and go back to password
screen again (screen resolution changes to low), then I enter password
and suddenly all works, everything is upsie-daisy.

I believe it somehow connected to nvidia drivers. Under nvidia-384 it
problem doesn't existed, but on nvidia-390 and 396 it does.

[Bug 1766538] Re: network customization with cloud-init does not work on Ubuntu18.04 Beta2 Server

2018-05-02 Thread Pengpeng Sun
Hi Chad,

Thanks for your investigation. You are right, I tried many times on that
Beta2 build(also did apt install nettools to use ifconfig), for Desktop,
I observes networking configuration is not handled by netplan, while
eni(/etc/network/interfaces) takes effect.

Today I did the following steps and collected cloud-init logs on the GA version
of Ubuntu18.04 Server.
1. Installed Ubuntu18.04 Server GA build on a VMware VM
2. Ran 'apt install cloud-init' to install cloud-init
3. Did VMware guest customization by cloud-init on this VM
4. Ran 'cloud-init collect-logs', please find the generated .gz file in
attachment

I set the bug status back to "New", please relook at this issue. Let me
know if any other info needed here.

Thanks,
Pengpeng

[Bug 1766825] Re: Bluetooth issues with Dell XPS 13 (9370)

2018-05-02 Thread Cyrus Lien
A quick workaround is rmmod btusb before suspend and insert btusb after resume.
To do this, you can put a executable script of any name in
/lib/systemd/system-sleep/.

Example:
#!/bin/sh

if [ "$1" = "pre" ]; then
systemctl stop bluetooth && rmmod btusb
elif [ "$1" = "post" ]; then
modprobe btusb && systemctl start bluetooth
fi

[Bug 1768292] Re: Bionic: Intermittently sent to Emergency Mode on boot with unhandled kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000980

2018-05-02 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
** Description changed:

+ ===SRU Justification===
+ [Impact]
+ When TBT ICM firmware is not running properly, it may crash the kernel.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Protect against cases when ICM is not set.
+
+ [Test]
+ User confirmed the additional patch works.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. It adds a simple logic to avoid NULL dereference.

[Bug 1768719] [NEW] [MIR] python-distro

2018-05-02 Thread Daniel Axtens
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

python-distro and python3-distro are available in universe and are
architecture independent.

[Rationale]

python3-distro is an upcoming build dependency of Azure's
WALinuxAgent, which we support in main.

This change is being made in advance of Python 3.7, which drops some
platform detection features from the standard library. python3-distro
provides these features.

For details, see: https://github.com/Azure/WALinuxAgent/pull/1036 (and
we have an open support case on this also)

[Security]

There doesn't appear to have been any CVEs reported against python-
distro.

There are no binaries installed, but one item on the list is "Add-ons
and plugins to security-sensitive software (filters, scanners, UI
skins, etc)" - as this is a python module it could end up in anything.

As such, I had a quick flick through the code. The only installed
python code is distro.py. The only interactions I can see it doing
with the outside world are:

 - running lsb_release and uname through the python subprocess
module. They're run through relative paths rather than absolute
paths, but that might be required for cross-distro compatibility.

 - reading an os_release and/or other distro release file. They're
   opened read-only.

 - querying the UNIXCONFDIR environment variable.

If you could manipulate the environment variables and manipulate the
filesystem, you could get a different binary named uname or lsb_relase
to be run. In the absence of a setuid binary I don't think that really
gets you anywhere new. This ships no setuid binaries and the
walinuxagent binaries don't seem to be setuid either.

In short, I don't think this could be used to get anything useful.

[Quality assurance]

 - "After installing the package it must be possible to make it
working with a reasonable effort of configuration and documentation
   reading."

The package is available to use as a python module
immediately. Documentation is available in the standard Python way:

  >>> import distro
  >>> help(distro)

 - "The package must not ask debconf questions higher than medium if
it is going to be installed by default. The debconf questions must
   have reasonable defaults."

There are no debconf questions.

 - "There are no long-term outstanding bugs which affect the usability
of the program to a major degree. To support a package, we must be
reasonably convinced that upstream supports and cares for the
   package."
 - "The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's
bug tracking systems must be evaluated. Important bugs must be
pointed out and discussed in the MIR report."
 - "The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu (check out the
   Debian PTS)"

{Upstream}

Looking at https://github.com/nir0s/distro, the latest commit was 15
days ago, and there seems to be steady, albeit slow, work on the
package with a view to releasing a version 2 at some point in the
future. It would seem that upstream suports and cares for the package.

Looking at issues at https://github.com/nir0s/distro/issues, there are
no open bugs that would affect Ubuntu, and certainly no major bugs.

{Debian}
See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=python-distro
There is only 1 open bug, and it's a trivial documentation bug with no
impact on functionality, and it's already been fixed pending upload.
The only previous bug was a missing dependency on lsb-release which
was fixed in 2016.

{Ubuntu}
See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-distro
No bugs reported ever.

 - "The package should not deal with exotic hardware which we cannot
   support."

N/A

 - "If the package ships a test suite, ..., it should be run during
package build, and a failing test suite should fail the build."

Tests are run during build with dh_auto_test.

 - "The package uses a debian/watch file whenever possible."

debian/watch is used.

 - "The package should not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted
   packages."

None. python2 is supported but not required and python3 has first
class support.

[UI standards]

N/A; no binaries shipped.

[Dependencies]

The only dependencies are lsb-release and python2/3, both in main.

[Standards compliance]

The package is built with the standard Debian python tooling, and
appears to put things in normal places. The source packaging is
minimal and simple. (Having said that, I'm not a policy expert, so I'd
may have missed something.)

[Maintenance]

This is a simple package. It appears to be well maintained in Debian,
so we should be able to keep it synced with Debian. It shouldn't
require any Ubuntu-specific maintenance.

[Bug 1768716] [NEW] Distutils not installed by default

2018-05-02 Thread Noah Kantrowitz
Public bug reported:

The python3.6 packages in Debian depends on distutils, but when they
were sync'd over here that seems to have been lost. From
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=894204, it looks like
the goal is to make that a dep of the stdlib package, but either that or
making it a dep of python3.6 would do the job.

Attaching the instructions to build skiroot/skiboot/Petitboot/all with op-build
(in this case, a patched skiroot's kernel -- zImage.epapr), per Dwip's request.

Hopefully this might help others in the future.

[Bug 1762844] op-buid instructions for patched skiroot build

2018-05-02 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From mauri...@br.ibm.com 2018-04-26 14:00
EDT---

Attaching the instructions to build skiroot/skiboot/Petitboot/all with op-build
(in this case, a patched skiroot's kernel -- zImage.epapr), per Dwip's request.

Hopefully this might help others in the future.

(In reply to comment #203)
> The skiroot kernel build is available at:

[Bug 1758243] Re: bumblebee needs configuration changes to work with nvidia-driver-390 and libglvnd0

2018-05-02 Thread Rocko
@Roman: it sounds like bumblebee is trying to load a module that has
been aliased to 'off' somewhere in your /etc/modprobe.d folder. Is the
configuration in /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf set to load nouveau,
perhaps? Or has the nvidia module been aliased to off by accident?

I read an article here https://serverfault.com/questions/616485/e1000e-
reset-adapter-unexpectedly-detected-hardware-unit-
hang?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=google_rich_qa&utm_campaign=google_rich_qa
which stated some people had had success preventing this by disabling
hardware offloading with ethtool -K eth0 gso off gro off tso off. With
the 4.15.0-21-lowlatency #22-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Tue May 1 15:47:42 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux kernel on the i7-6850 machine which
has been the most problematic, I did this and have not had a hang since.
Obviously this comes with a performance penalty so is undesirable as a
permanent fix but hoping this might help narrow the cause.
