[Bug 1816278] Re: lubuntu-desktop requires pulseaudio to be installed
With regards to lubuntu-desktop, we expect that metapackage to provide a particular experience and that includes a user-friendly sound mixer. We also expect it to include a terminal emulator. Xubuntu does things a little bit different: both the sound mixer and the terminal emulator (as a corollary; there are other examples) are recommends. The solution: install the basic components or simply uninstall pavucontrol-qt. It will remove lubuntu-desktop but that's just a metafile. It won't remove your entire installation. ** Changed in: lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816278 Title: lubuntu-desktop requires pulseaudio to be installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1816278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1816278] Re: lubuntu-desktop requires pulseaudio to be installed
If you look at the upstream codebase for pavucontrol-qt: https://github.com/lxqt/pavucontrol-qt you can see it's "A Pulseaudio mixer in Qt." So obviously it will require Pulseaudio, as you can see in the build instructions. ** Changed in: pavucontrol-qt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816278 Title: lubuntu-desktop requires pulseaudio to be installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1816278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1816278] Re: lubuntu-desktop requires pulseaudio to be installed
I'll add it's actually problematic that pavucontrol (not -qt) recommends pulseaudio instead of depending on it. [Bug 1816278] [NEW] lubuntu-desktop requires pulseaudio to be installed
Public bug reported: The lubuntu-desktop package depends on pavucontrol-qt, which in turn depends on pulseaudio, meaning that PulseAudio is forced upon anyone who wants to use Ubuntu's LXQt flavor. This is problematic for those of us to whom PulseAudio is intolerable, and for those who simply prefer an ALSA-only system. It also seems unnecessary, given that the xubuntu- desktop package merely "recommends" pavucontrol, and pavucontrol merely "recommends" pulseaudio. [Bug 1816198] Re: when a blank cd is automounted, it appears twice on the desktop
Thanks Glenn. (I looked in my car and it's CDR was unreadable to decided to write a replacement for it) I booted up 18.04 on my hp dx6120mt (mini-tower, pentium 4 dual core, 3gb, winfast clone of nvidia 7600gt) -- the specs are irrelevant but its an old box used in QA-testing x86 (it won't run x86_64) and will mean something to me.. I dist-upgraded then rebooted.. Yes XFBurn & blank disc was different in this box to the d755 (x86_64 on my prior comment), and the ejecting disc & closing door was just annoying (more icons of 'Blank CD-R Disc' & pop-ups each time I didn't get on x86_64). I gave up trying to write using XFBurn, even tried writing in Brasero - which got further but failed too. In this case it could be this hardware (I've never written a cd/dvd with it; the box was salvaged from a recycle pile for QA-testing purposes which hasn't involved writer before..) In my case I can't rule out my hardware, but didn't see any obvious issues other than yes x86 does perform differently to x86_64. [Bug 1775971] Re: [SRU] Update gpaste to 3.28.3 in Bionic
I tried rebuilding the current 3.28.3 upstream source from git while atop of the 3.28.0 debian source via uupdate, e.g.: apt-get source gpaste curl -OL https://github.com/Keruspe/GPaste/archive/v3.28.3.tar.gz # rename v3.28.3.tar.gz else uupdate causes pacakge version 28.3 and breaks on v3 mv v3.28.3.tar.gz gpaste_3.28.3.orig.tar.gz cd gpaste-3.28.0 uupdate ../gpaste_3.28.3.orig.tar.gz cd ../gpaste-3.28.3 #libgpaste soname is now 11 instead of 9 sed -i 's/libgpaste9/libgpaste11/g' debian/control mv debian/libgpaste9.install debian/libgpaste11.install # no clue what to do about symbol files probably used for debug? Complians out of sync if I just rename 9 to 11 and build. Removing for now. rm debian/libgpaste11.symbols debuild I then installed the resulting deb packages, and gpaste runs. Think it's fixed the image crash issue (`3.28.2` NEWS mentions it being fixed). But clueless about how to adjust/create a poper symbol file for the debian folder. I note the upstream make process does and a source file it targets for symbols, but not sure how to get that into the debian package properly - advanced debug features I'm not familiar with. I've also noticed that 3.28.2 for 18.10/cosmic had a number of patches to backport/allow it handle gnome 3.30 and depend on libglib2 2.58, so it's not workable/adaptable to 18.04/bionic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775971 Title: [SRU] Update gpaste to 3.28.3 in Bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpaste/+bug/1775971/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1816271] [NEW] no sound
Public bug reported: 19.04,kern 4.19.0-13 just took update and now does not recognize soundcard or something plugged in to headphones jack. pulled bug. Now if I unplug headphones and plug back in, it wakes up and recognizes it and works fine. I thought I had this prob a few days ago and restored back to the 10th, and updated all but alsa and worked fine. This morning I checked and a bunch of alsa stuff was no longer showing in updates, took everything, and worked fine. Just took updates (Software Updater), and checked speakers and no go. When this happened, it also would not allow sound to HDTV via HDMI, no matter what. Re: [Bug 1816198] Re: when a blank cd is automounted, it appears twice on the desktop
Hi Chris, thanks for your interest. First, a family emergency just popped up that will require all my time for about the next week, so there's that. Secondly, 'open & re-close' tray function appears to work properly with pcmanfm; what does not seem to work properly is xfburn writing correctly to the CD. Using my 32-bit notebook & Lubuntu 18.04.1 + updates, I attempted to make an audio CD-R with 8 tracks but failed to complete the burns for 2 CD-R's, even thought the audio files are fine playing with VLC from the HDD. Next, I tried burning the same audio tracks with xfburn to an audio CD-R on my 64-bit Lubuntu 18.04.1 + updates notebook; this time the CD burn completed but the audio tracks have a number of 'skips' in the audio. This may very well be an issue with xfburn, but since the initial indication of something out of the ordinary is with pcmanfm, I thought it might be some kind of CD mounting or dependency issue in pcmanfm. Thank you for your response, this seems to do the trick. I was worried that disabling MSI would decrease networking performance, but a simple iperf3 test comparison showed no difference. [Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69
Had this with nvidia graphics drivers after installing and then removing proprietary drivers downloaded from nvidia website. I could not log in at all at first boot. If you see nvidia modules loaded, make sure that you select an xorg session on the login screen (not wayland) if you this control presented to you. lsmod| grep nvidia nvidia_uvm794624 0 nvidia_drm 40960 13 nvidia_modeset 1040384 1 nvidia_drm nvidia 17285120 653 nvidia_uvm,nvidia_modeset ipmi_msghandler 102400 2 ipmi_devintf,nvidia drm_kms_helper172032 2 nvidia_drm,i915 drm 458752 13 drm_kms_helper,nvidia_drm,i915 Alternatively, just set WaylandEnable to false (and restart gdm). cat /etc/gdm3/custom.conf # ... [daemon] # Uncoment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg WaylandEnable=false # ... I also suspect that /etc/X11/xorg.conf generated by nvidia-xconfig (which I ran during driver installation from the website) was causing issues. Steps I performed from a VT session: 1) sudo apt purge 'nvidia*' 2) reboot 3) sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf 4) sudo apt install nvidia-driver- nvidia-dkms- nvidia-settings nvidia-prime 5) reboot I also have 11-nvidia-prime.conf file at /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d which is generated by ubuntu-drivers-common: cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-nvidia-prime.conf # DO NOT EDIT. [Bug 1816255] [NEW] Default sidebar icon screws up size of all icons
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 18.04.1, gnome/X11 session. All the icons in the activities panel (the left side-bar) are shrunk if an app is run which does not specify an icon. Perhaps the default icon is too large, or otherwise lacking in a way which causes the entire side-bar to be re-scaled, shrinking the existing icons. The example below usses qmlscene (a tool to run Qt-based apps), but I've seen this with other apps which don't have a proper icon, such as the citrix receiver. Please see attached screenshots (before and after running a qmlscene program) STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. # Install Qt with qmlscene. # I think this is enough: sudo apt-get install qmlchooser qmlscene # But if not, then: sudo apt-get install qtcreator qtbase5-dev 2. # create a trivial qml program echo 'import QtQuick 2.9' >t.qml echo 'import QtQuick.Controls 2.2' >>t.qml echo 'ApplicationWindow { id: top; visible:true }' >>t.qml 3. qmlscene t.qml RESULTS: The icons in the left sidebar contract to about half their previous size. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Attachment added: "after.png (showing shrunken icons in task bar)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816255/+attachment/5239165/+files/after.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816255 Title: Default sidebar icon screws up size of all icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/1816255/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1815808] Re: Thunderbolt Ethernet high-traffic exception
I tried what you suggested. Ethtool reported no changes in configuration when I turned off receive offload. It reported substantial changes when I turned off transmit offload. After turning off transmit offload, transmit rate dropped from 930 Mb/s to abut 660 Mb/s, although I did not see a big CPU hit. Receive speeds were not affected by turning off receive offload. gene-pc:~$ sudo ethtool --offload eth0 rx off gene-pc:~$ sudo ethtool --offload eth0 tx off Actual changes: tx-checksumming: off tx-checksum-ipv4: off tx-checksum-ipv6: off tcp-segmentation-offload: off tx-tcp-segmentation: off [requested on] tx-tcp6-segmentation: off [requested on] gene-pc:~$ Unfortunately, after doing this, I have had great difficulty reproducing the crash, and I do not know why. Here's what changed: I did a routine apt update, but I did not get a new kernel. I installed ethtool, and did the command you suggested. After doing that, the system refused to crash either transmit or receive. So I rebooted, this time did not run ethtool, and the system again refused to crash. Previously I could reproduce the crash in about 30 seconds. Now I cannot reproduce the crash after over an hour. An hour of transmit, and an hour of receive. And an hour bidirectional. I do not know why. One problem here is that I test at home and at work, with the same computer, but with a different TB-10 dock, monitor, keyboard, mouse. Previous to my bug report, I had never seen the problem at home. The bug report I sent was from work. Since receiving your request for information, I cannot readily reproduce the problem either at home or at work. Except once. I did see a crash at home when *I unplugged/plugged in a keyboard while the test was going on*. I have attached three lsusb outputs: - usb.work →At work, system healthy. - usb.home → At home, system healthy. - usb.failed → At home, after the crash where I moved the keyboard What else can I do to help diagnose the problem? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Display_Power_Management_Signaling The Xfce power manager basically just offers a graphical configuration for DPMS + screensaver related settings. [Bug 1816252] [NEW] GIMP Crash Debug (occurred on closing)
Public bug reported: Gimp crashed on trying to close it (used in single-window mode). Beforehand, the "David's Batch Processor" add-on (the official Ubuntu package) was used for batch-resizing of images and, which is unusual for it, reported issues several times during processing. [Bug 1640978] Re: [SRU] Backport letsencrypt from bionic
TL;DR - LGTM a few questions for clarification, but no nacks I took logs for everything non trivial that I did (wonder about) on review. + = LGTM ? = ok, but I'd have a question x = nack, this should be different python-acme: ? rebase for 0.22.2-1ubuntu0.1 - The bug #1777205 should get a xenial task before upload - and then the bug be verified on the SRU - please remember to buildpkg with -v0.4.1-1 + changelog tweaks + backport version string Double ubuntu in the version seems odd, but it seems correct. It is not part of [2] and an even more special case of [1] x Add SRU explanation to changelog The version is 0.22.2 the entry calls it "version 0.23 in 16.04" Seems wrong, either fix or explain why it is that way. I see that all others e.g. python-certbot is at 0.23 for real will that mismatch be a problem? python-certbot: + recommends certbot ? dh_clean ok but why, would it hurt? ? pkg-info.mk ok but why, would it hurt? ? cli.ini That is the one to keep the logrotations as is (ok) I thought from our talk Xenial did that as well, but it didn't There is nothing about it in pkg/ubuntu/xenial-devel:debian/rules nor in pkg/import/0.14.2-1:debian/rules I guess the old default was different, which is ok. But do we now want/need any conffile cleanup in >=Bionic? This would be independent to this SRU, but I wanted to ask. + build rules + install init no-op ? Restore original timer service installation The "original" used the older dh_systemd_enable/dh_systemd_start I think your's work only with newer debhelper, it is not "the original" I just found you clean that up later - would have been nice to squash those two :-/ + backport version string (that one I like more) ? use dh_systemd The old package used install -D --mode=644 for the timer any reason you have chosen mkdir + cp instead ? That commit also adds whitespace damage above "# Install certbot.timer" + doc paths + version/changelog changes ? Add SRU explanation to changelog you might mention changes to d/rules and d/compat to make the backport working here python-letsencrypt: + Remove redundant incorrect d/README.source ? further changes to changelog ( I have a general statement about those below) ? It is not clear to me how that "shimming" takes place, extending the changelog on that would be useful as well. python-josepy: ? changelog/version bumps in general ok You mentioned the new certbot.timer and such in python-letsencrypt (which doesn't hold the timers) Please choose: - Why did you mention it there? - Why didn't you mention it here? I assume it is because of the package takeover letsencrypt->certbot. But really, that could use some words (more about that below already) python-letsencrypt-apache + cleanup + changelog + version bumps python-certbot-apache: + empty dir + VCS + cleanup (again ok but why) + doc building + version string changes + doc-base paths + SRU explanation (nothing more than what was said already) I just realized that the summary changelogs all say: "Log rotation is switched to logrotate via /etc/logrotate.d/certbot" This whole section could need more why it was done and where the old/new tunables are (cli.ini belonge to package X, the logrotate belongs to package Y - how it was before and now). And since you carry that in all packages, copy it to all of them once you have a more explaining text. There were quite a few which took me some minutes to think, but eventually LGMT but some cleanups. You have done many cleanups which are correct (dh_clean, readme.source, pkg-info.mk, ...). Those seem good for Disco onwards, but not necessary for an SRU. They correct, but not necessary, but they increase the amount of code to review or did you only pick those which were ok in Xenial and comparin X->B would have showed up as bad delta? If that was the intention I'm sure you have the thanks of the SRU reviewer :-) In general the dependencies in d/control seem a bit soft, with all the renames I had expected more breaks/replaces. Have you checked in the build logs that the generated python/misc:depends are as you'd want them? All of the above is easy to clean up, so it should not be a huge bump in bringing this to the SRU queue. Note: I'd recommend in general to drop the PPA string from git. Lessons- learned of someone that had to ask to cancel an SRU with ~ppa in the name :-) Keep it in "git stash" instead.
