[Bug 1875289] [NEW] Firefox Screen Tearing

2020-04-26 Thread Tony Thuitai
Public bug reported:

Screen tearing on Firefox when watching a video or scrolling down a
webpage with a lot of text.

Steps to reproduce video screen tearing
1. Open Firefox browser on and go to Youtube
2. Select a video but I recommend a screen tearing video test
3. View the whole video and screen tearing occurs.

Steps to reproduce scroll tearing
1. Open a webpage on Firefox that has a lot of text like a Wiki
2. Scroll down the page and tearing is seen when scrolling

Tried recording the screen with Kazam to illustrate the issue but it
does not record the screen tearing. Tested on Chromium but no screen
tearing

[Bug 1871913] Re: super key does not work with secondary keyboard layout

2020-04-26 Thread Christos Sintoris
@dani.behzi comment #8 was very helpful. I wad also turned on the
Pointer Location setting in gnome tweaks, and all Ctrl+Key shortcuts
were unusable in the secondary input mode. This is much more devastating
than missing Super functionality in secondary input mode (Ctrl+C/+X/+V,
Ctrl+Shift+Arrow etc).

Still Super key problem remains.

[Bug 1850439] Re: No sound on ASUS UX534FT

2020-04-26 Thread Rewi Haar
I just followed Neitsab's workaround of doing a cold power off/power on
between OSes instead of a reboot and it seems to have worked (I now get
audio through both headphones and internal speakers). This explains why
I was able to get audio on the live USB as well.

[Bug 1850439] Re: No sound on ASUS UX534FT

2020-04-26 Thread Rewi Haar
I have the same issue on a ZenBook UX433FLC. The internal speakers work
at least some of the time, but whenever I plug in headphones I just hear
a loud irregular clicking sound. The headphones work fine in Windows
10.

As I recall, when I initially ran Ubuntu off a live USB before
installation, I checked the audio using headphones and it seemed to work
just fine. (In case it turns out to be relevant, this would have been
before I switched the SATA mode to AHCI.)

[Bug 1873746] Re: kmail in Kubuntu 20.04 beta cannot connect to dovecot IMAP server

2020-04-26 Thread Chris Samuel
The solution (for me) was to modify /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf after the line:

oid_section = new_oids

by adding:

openssl_conf = default_conf

[default_conf]
ssl_conf = ssl_sect

[ssl_sect]
system_default = system_default_sect

[system_default_sect]
MinProtocol = TLSv1.2
CipherString = DEFAULT@SECLEVEL=1

This is obviously not a Kubuntu or KDE bug so I'll close this now.

[Bug 1873746] Re: kmail in Kubuntu 20.04 beta cannot connect to dovecot IMAP server

2020-04-26 Thread Chris Samuel
Hi there,

I have a strong suspicion that this is SSL related.

I've found that this does not work:

openssl s_client -connect example.com:993
[...]
139765775537472:error:141A318A:SSL routines:tls_process_ske_dhe:dh key too
small:../ssl/statem/statem_clnt.c:2149:
[...]

but this does (found here: https://imlc.me/dh-key-too-small ):

openssl s_client -connect example.com:993 --cipher 'DEFAULT:!DH'

Now the received wisdom is that this is because of OpenSSL configuration
and you can fix it by adding this to /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf:

[system_default_sect]
MinProtocol = TLSv1.2
CipherString = DEFAULT@SECLEVEL=2

However, that does not seem to work, either for the OpenSSL command line
or for Akonadi.

All the best,
Chris

[Bug 1875285] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 Fractional scalling “cuting” elements

2020-04-26 Thread Alexandre Speltri
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 with a NVIDIA MX250. Firstly, nvidia-prime was not
working. Even when selecting nvidia only, it was using Intel HD Graphics.

I've forced the use of NVIDIA as the primary GPU by creating
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf with: Option "PrimaryGPU"
"yes" (seen here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus).
This works, now nvidia-settings show all options (before was showing only prime
options, and nothing more - even when selecting NVIDIA Only).

But now, fractional scalling crops half of the screen. The funny thing
is that when I try to printscreen, on the picture it looks fine, but in
reality is not. I had to make a photo with my cellphone. As you can see,
elements don't fit the screen (Note firefox title bar, for
example).[IMAGE3]

[Bug 1571531] Re: cupsd cause apparmor denials for /etc/ld.so.preload

2020-04-26 Thread bzipitidoo
I'm seeing this problem in Lubuntu 20.04. The system discovered my
network printer automatically. (It chose A4 paper size, but I am in the
US and use letter size. Changing to letter didn't matter for this
problem.) When I print an error message pops up: "cups-pki-expired."
In the logs, I see this:

for workaround you can copy the file

/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.tweaks.desktop

to your home folder

~/.local/share/applications

and change the following line in org.gnome.tweaks.desktop:

from:
StartupNotify=true

to:

hope this helps 😜

[Bug 1875283] [NEW] executing grub-install failed

2020-04-26 Thread Robbie Blackburn
Public bug reported:

Performing a new install on a SSD device (sdc).

Installing xubuntu itself to a new ext4 partition on the drive seems to
work fine, but at the end of the installer it crashes with the error:

"Executing 'grub-install /dev/sdc' failed. This is a fatal error"

The drive also has a new 512MB EFI partition created through the
installer.

2020-04-26 Thread Hui Wang
If you remove dmic_detect=0, your alsa card could not be showed up in
gnome. So I guess there are some errors in the audio driver
initialization, I need the log to debug.

Could you remove dmic_detect=0 temporarily, then boot and upload the
dmesg, let me see what happens on the audio driver.

[Bug 1875276] [NEW] needs way of renaming contacts

2020-04-26 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

1) person 1 creates jami account, sends identifier to person 2
2) person 2 creates jami account, sends request
3) person 1 accepts request
person 2 hasn't set up their account yet so their account name is a ginormous
string of hexidecimal

okay that's fine if you only have 1 friend.
but if you have 150+ contacts...and none of them rename themselves...you are
going to have a HARD time keeping track of who is who
And generally...it is useful to be able to rename contacts. ICE for example is
a standard 'in case of emergency' number to call. Not having this feature is
kind of a usability problem.

This is the same issue as:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/valgrind/+bug/1808508

... where the fix was to manually path the Valgrind debug info lookup
path, but this doesn't seem feasible for every application that might
care about symbols. Better to put the symbols in the right place or set
up symlinks to ensure that is the case?

[Bug 1875274] [NEW] usrmerge breaks perf symbol lookup

2020-04-26 Thread Travis Downs
Public bug reported:

In 19.10, perf cannot find the symbols for libc even after installing
libc-dbg.

The symbols for libc are in:

/usr/lib/debug/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

but libc is in:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

so applications expect to find the corresponding symbols at:

The touchpad detection problem and the output sound problem also occur in

However, they works smoothly in Windows 10.

2020-04-26 Thread Travis Downs

That seems like quite an incredible statement! I can imagine that many
debugging and profiling tools will want symbols.

For example, this change is breaking perf right now, as it looks for say
libc symbols in /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/, but the
symbols are actually in /usr/lib/debug/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/.

[Bug 1834085] Re: Bluetooth touchpad (Apple Magic Trackpad) disconnects every few minutes

2020-04-26 Thread Kimberly Tran
Disabling upower isn't enough -- it will start up again when an app
(such as your browser) requires power management support. You have to
uinstall upower from your system. (Note that this will make some apps,
such as steam, unstable.)

This bug started happening when I switched out my wifi card. I have a
Dell XPS 9560. My Magic Mouse only started having these disconnect
issues after I switched to an Intell 9260 card. I might switch back to
Killer card to verify.

I caught upower doing its (bad) thing just now, after being started up
by brave browser.

Apr 26 22:21:21 nodoubt dbus-daemon[833]: [system] Activating via systemd:

If I completely uninstall upower, the problem goes away.

I have the same problem, I have grouped all applications into categories.
To reproduce the error, I open the category after clicking + and so on several
times until it freezes.

[Bug 1873895] Re: Regression: block staircase display with side-by-side monitors of different pixel widths

2020-04-26 Thread Jim Carpenter
Just tried upgrading my Xubuntu 19.10 desktop to 20.04 and I'm now
getting the same staircase effect. Video card is an AMD Radeon RX 5700
XT which is connected with a DisplayPort -> DVI-D cable to an ancient LG
W2252TQ monitor with a resolution of, yes, 1680x1050. It is the only
monitor connected.

Just thought I'd share. Rolling back to 19.10 now. I'll try again with
the point release.

Thanks for the reminder! I just realized Ubuntu 20.02 was already

For the CPU firmware (CPU microcode?) update issue: sorry, it's

[Bug 1875117] Re: Realtek RTL810xE Ethernet [10ec:8136] Subsystem [1179:f91b] not recognized

2020-04-26 Thread Mark Dalphin
I have now backed out all of the r8101 module and rebooted with the
r8169.

The system now works - this bug can be closed. Some update I've
installed seems to have fixed the issue.

The original issue was the Ethernet was not recognized. As can be seen
below, it is now recognized:

> nmcli device status
DEVICE TYPE STATECONNECTION
enp3s0 ethernet connectedOdysseus 192.168.2.x
wlp4s0 wifi unavailable --
p2p-dev-wlp4s0 wifi-p2p unavailable --
lo loopback unmanaged--

I do not have a copy of the dmesg from the past when it was not working.
The current dmesg (excerpt here; full file attached later just for
information) shows the recognition of the Ethernet:

[0.960609] r8169 :03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM
control
[0.969112] libphy: r8169: probed

[0.974858] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0

[9.155745] r8169 :03:00.0 enp3s0: Link is Up - 100Mbps/Full - flow
control rx/tx

Previously, the original 'r8169' at 0.90609 showed an error.

In short, this bug can be closed as it has been fixed by an update since
my original issue (on the beta release of Kubuntu 20.04).

[Bug 1875182] Re: package lxd 3.0.3-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: new lxd package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-04-26 Thread Stéphane Graber via ubuntu-bugs
Is that within a privileged LXD container?

If so, that's unfortunately a known snapd issue where the first snap you
install in such a container will fail with that udev error, re-trying
will succeed.

[Bug 1875263] Re: linux-firmware: missing sof-cfl.ri symbol link for Bionic and Eoan

2020-04-26 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ [Impact]
+ some ubuntu eoan/bionic users reported that the audio driver failed
+ to initialize, then the audio didn't work. I checked the dmesg, found
+ the sof driver planed to load sof-cfl.ri, but there is no this
+ firmware under eoan or bionic.
+
+ [Fix]
+ I consulted with Intel audio team, they told me that the coffeelake
+ platform could share the firmware with cnl/whl platoforms, so we could
+ build a symbol link sof-cfl->sof-cnl.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ A couple of ubuntu users already tested it on Dell and Asus coffeelake
+ laptops, it worked well.
+
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, users already tested it, and Intel audio team confirmed it is safe.

[Bug 1875258] Re: Mouse cursor has inconsistent size and theme

2020-04-26 Thread Vigleik Angeltveit
Thanks for the quick reply. I ran apport-collect 1875258. It returned a
whole bunch of errors, is that normal?

Anyway, the program in the screenshots I provided was kate. GTK
applications seem to be better. Chrome, which is its own thing, also has
issues.

[Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop)

2020-04-26 Thread Colin Brash
Steps to reproduce
This result was consistent after five different installs.

Outcome
I'm having the same issue, after install I shut down remove the usb it will
boot the first time to login screen no problem, after a second shut down or
restart it hangs at the spinning arrow.

Expected Outcome
Smooth start up with boot splash to login screen.

Workaround
Tap the F8 key before boot splash appears, continue to tap F8 when scrolling
text appears, it then continues to login screen.

Temporary Fix
Remove "quiet splash" from /etc/default/grub -
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

Result
Scrolling text on startup, however a very quick boot to login screen, no
hanging.

always, and the available is no.

need some pulseaudio log to debug.

usually, it should be analog-output-speaker.

[Bug 1841767] Re: 19.04 OpenVPN plug-in not installed

2020-04-26 Thread Tomasz Makara
** Description changed:

On latest Kubuntu 19.10 build (dated 26/08/19), when adding new OpenVPN
connections (from config files) in System Settings > Connections, am
then unable to connect to these due to error 'Missing VPN Plugin' when
trying to connect. This definitely does not happen on Kubuntu 19.04. So
it is a new issue on this 19.10 build.

Manually installing the network-manager-ovpn package via CLI resolved
the issue but this should not be necessary. the system should not
present in-operable options to the user and then throw difficult and un-
freidnly error messages. This feels like a bug/design fedect/oversight
  in this build.

Also raised as bug with KDE
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411321) but they have closed this
  as 'not a bug'.

  Thanks.

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE
  1. Open System Settings > Connections
  2. Click the + sign to add a new connection
  3. Scroll down to select last option "Import VPN connection
  4. Import an OpenVPN config file
  5. Try and connect to the VPN connection.

  OBSERVED RESULT
Unable to connect to VPN, a network manager notification alerts pops up from
the system tray saying 'Missing VPN Plug in'

  EXPECTED RESULT
  Successful connection to the VPN.
