[Bug 1885663] Re: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] Subsystem [103c:831b] wifi regression

2020-07-06 Thread Philip Johnson
This is my first time tracking down a kernel bug, so it's taking me a
little while as I learn the bisection & kernel compilation procedure.

As an initial step, I have isolated the problem to something Ubuntu-specific.
I have now tried running several mainline 5.4 kernels including, e.g.,
5.4.17-050417-generic and found, to my surprise, the wireless signal is strong
on those mainline kernels. To summarize my testing:
BAD:
  20.04 runs a signed Ubuntu 5.4 or 5.6 kernel
GOOD:
18.04.4 (live usb) runs the default signed 5.3 kernel
  20.04 runs unsigned mainline 5.3, 5.4, 5.8 kernels

As a step towards a bisection, I've tried to boot a signed Ubuntu 5.3
kernel (taken from 18.04) on 20.04, but this hangs at the "Loading
initial ramdisk" stage -- presumably due to some incompatibility between
18.04 and 20.04. I'll next attempt to compile the Ubuntu 5.3 kernel
myself, which will hopefully boot on 20.04.

[Bug 1881018] Re: sru cloud-init (19.4.33 to 20.2-45) Xenial, Bionic, Eoan and Focal

2020-07-06 Thread Chad Smith
Verification is complete on all SRU validation tasks. All relevant verification
results have been added to this bug, and we have an outstanding change request
to the ubuntu-release mailing list
seeking approval to only have Bionic testing from the Solutions test team. I'm
marking verification-done on all releases as we have completed all cloud-init
manual and automated testing for this SRU.

[Bug 1886414] Re: chromium wont install

2020-07-06 Thread dan the person
ok thanks that worked a treat.

Running snap directly there was a progress indicator so i could see that
snap downloads are very very very slow. 200kb/s. I'm on a a basic
residential 100Mbits fibre line, so apt downloading deps from the ubuntu
mirror is usually quick, 10MB/s. So the snap download is 50x slower than
what i am used to.

So download 50x slower than usual, and no progress indicator, made me
think it was hung when i probably should have just waited half an hour.

Normal download speed from apt upgrade straight after the snap install:

The following packages will be upgraded:
  libnss3 snapd
2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 28.4 MB of archives.
After this operation, 15.2 MB of additional disk space will be used.

[Bug 1863434] Re: 20.04 grub menu not visible

2020-07-06 Thread Gaurav Nelson
Changing `GRUB_TERMINAL=console` based on
https://medium.com/@leijerry888/get-grub-menu-back-after-installing-
ubuntu-20-04-alongside-windows-dab5de5afc37 fixed the issue for me.
However, this is still a bug.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Windows first.
2. Make some space on the disk for installing Ubuntu.
3. Install Ubuntu 20.04
4. On new boot, screen goes blank and boots directly to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1868364] Re: rgw: unable to abort multipart upload after the bucket got resharded

2020-07-06 Thread dongdong tao
upload the debdiff

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ This bug will cause the bucket not able to abort the multipart upload and
leaving the stale multiple entries behind for those buckets which had partial
multipart uploads before the resharding.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Deploy a latest luminous(12.2.13) ceph cluter
+ Create a bucket
+ upload a big file (200M+) to that bucket
+ Press "Ctrl + C" after several part (each part is 15M) had been uploaded
+ Manually reshard the bucket to 4 shards
+ Abort the multipart uploading
+ Without the fix, you will not able to abort the previous uploading
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low - this fix has been accept upstream in later releases since from Mimic.
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
There is a bug during the resharding for those multipart entries.
For all the multipart entries, the hash source should be the object name so
that all those entries can still be
distributed to one same bucket index shard object.
Right now the code just calculate the shard id based on each entry's name,
which is wrong
-
- This can cause the bucket not able to abort the multipart upload and
- leave the stale multiple entries behind.
-
- The fix is already merged into the mimic and nautilus. but upstream
- didn't backport it to luminous
-
- fix is here https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/32617
- upstream bug report: https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/43583
+ This can cause the bucket not able to abort the multipart upload and leave
the stale multiple entries behind.

Hello

I verified this patch is working fine on testing.

After this patch, disable_ipv6 contains 0 which is proper value for
ipv6.

Thanks a lot.

[Bug 1885610] Re: enlarged components on lock/login screen

2020-07-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also the screenshot in comment #9 shows you have a custom shell theme
enabled (judging by the top bar), but none apparently installed or
enabled in gnome-tweaks.

If we can find out why/how your top panel is customized when it
shouldn't be anymore then I think that might also explain this bug.

[Bug 1880125] Re: v3d driver clock problem forces OpenGL to use software rendering

2020-07-06 Thread AlpineCarver
Re-examining the output of the debug code I added a few weeks ago, I
noticed that I had put a kprintf into clk-
raspberrypi.c/raspberrypi_clk_probe(), and it never was invoked.

Thus, I think you're right that adding:

CONFIG_CLK_RASPBERRYPI=y
CONFIG_ARM_RASPBERRYPI_CPUFREQ=y

has a good chance of getting us past this problem.

I will try adding those lines to
.../focal/debian.raspi/config/config.common.ubuntu. I'm having trouble
building/running a modified kernel at the moment, but will do this as
soon as I can.

[Bug 1886115] Re: libseccomp 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.2 causes systemd to segfault on boot

2020-07-06 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks - in Ubuntu releases 18.04 onwards debug symbols are provided via
the separate -dbgsyms packages which require extra configuration -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

TL;DR:

echo "deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs) main restricted universe
multiverse" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list
echo -e "deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs)-updates main restricted
universe multiverse\ndeb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs)-proposed
main restricted universe multiverse" | sudo tee -a
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list
sudo apt install ubuntu-dbgsym-keyring
sudo apt update
sudo apt install systemd-dbgsym
gdb /sbin/init bug1886115.core
(gdb) bt

Which gives the following more complete stack trace (sadly a bunch of
stuff has been optimised out, but also since this is crashing in freep()
it seems that memory corruption has already occurred prior to this point
and we don't have any info as to where this happened):

What is really needed is to try and catch the memory corruption as it happens -
I am not sure if it is possible to run systemd via valgrind but this could be
one option.

[Bug 1886592] [NEW] Add support for VMware Horizon SSO to gnome-shell

2020-07-06 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

VMware Horizon is a VDI product that runs atop of VMware's normal
virtualisation stack, and it supports SSO authentication for login.

In the past, the VMware Horizon agent has been pretty buggy, and
requires SSO patches to be present to function, otherwise it breaks and
causes entire outages for anyone trying to use the VDI.

To solve this, VMware had been custom compiling their own libgnome-
shell.so libraries with their SSO patches, which are based on oVirt's
SSO implementation. When you install VMware Horizon agent to the
instance, it overwrites Ubuntu's libgnome-shell.so with their custom
compiled one.

VMware don't keep their custom compiled libgnome-shell.so library up to
date, so bugs that have already been fixed still live on in their
library. Also, when Ubuntu updates our gnome-shell packages, it
overwrites the custom libgnome-shell.so library, which then causes the
Horizon agent to break, and causes outages for anyone using the VDI,
which have to be solved by manually copying the custom library back.

This situation is untenable for VMware Horizon users, so I have asked
VMware to upstream their SSO patches. After a long painful process, they
have landed in gnome-shell master.

This SRU will significantly improve the quality of life for VMware
Horizon users, and will remove the need for VMware to distribute custom
libraries.

[Testcase]

You need an instance that runs on VMware Horizon, and the Horizon agent
needs to be installed and running. Ideally, SSO authentication should be
enabled to test all features, but it is not necessary to partially test.

Test packages are available in this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf247978-test

If you install the test package in a VMware Horizon VDI, the instance
should come up cleanly after reboot and function properly, especially
with SSO login.

The instance should be able to function without custom libgnome-shell.so
libraries provided by VMware.

[Regression Potential]

The code refactors the oVirt SSO implementation into a more generalised
interface, which other virtualisation platforms can use. oVirt has been
transitioned to this interface as part of the refactoring, which means
that any if the new oVirt SSO implementation is broken, it could break
users running in oVirt.

VMware's patches also use the new generalised interface, which is much
simpler than before, and it has been tested internally by VMware. There
was a very long review process with upstream GNOME, which ironed out all
of their concerns.

I have been reviewing the code along the way, and I am confident that it
will not cause any regressions. If a regression did occur, then it would
break SSO functionality only.

[Bug 1876157] Re: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020

2020-07-06 Thread Sebastian Schleitzer
I think it is not the problem of the memtest version 5.01.

When I boot memtest 5.01 via USB-Stick it is working. No problems.

Only the integrated memtest 5.01 is making problems (started via grub,
ubuntu 20.04)

memtest 5.01 was also working in ubuntu 18.04 (via grub). Then I
upgraded to 20.04 -> Freeze problem

[Bug 1886591] [NEW] please remove package and rdeps from release

2020-07-06 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

haskhell-yi-language depends on a version of libghc-regex-tdfa-dev than
is now in proposed so it cannot be rebuilt as part of the ongoing
transition. It, and all it's reverse-depends and reverse-build-depends
need to be removed from the release pocket.

The project seems pretty dead upstream but if it gets fixed and uploaded
to debian, we should make sure that any reverse deps that do not end up
needing sourceful uploads get resurrected in Ubuntu.

Re: [Bug 1766377] Re: Ethernet E1000 Controller Hangs

2020-07-06 Thread Robert Dinse
I gave up on this ever being fixed since it's existed since 2.6 and
went and bought some Realtek ethernet cards, no problems since. But, you
can work around this bug by turning hardware offloading off if efficiency
isn't an issue.

[Bug 1886491] Re: Applying package profile on Xenial doesn't work

2020-07-06 Thread Simon Poirier
It looks like python-apt (1.1.0~beta1ubuntu0.16.04.7) created a regression and
elects to ignore
Acquire::AllowInsecureRepositories in favor of APT::Get::AllowUnauthenticated.

The simpler approach would likely be to backport the [trusted=true] fix
we've got working with later releases, instead of trying anything
related to the global apt config.

This is still broken. The post-connect.d workarounds don't work because
NetworkManager doesn't get openconnect to use vpnc-scripts any more. So
the problem is with nm-openconnect-service-openconnect-helper I guess.

When debugging passed env vars I get (extract)

There is this comment next to the uptime grabbing:

As far as I know, this was never used, as the server serves static

2020-07-06 Thread Brian Murray
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a
PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that
PPA contains package version numbers greater than the release to which
you are upgrading. You can revert the PPA by installing the ppa-purge
package from the official Ubuntu archive and then running 'sudo ppa-
purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers'. After that you can try upgrading
again and if it still fails open a new bug report. Thanks and good
luck!

[Bug 1883846] Re: hwdb: Mask rfkill event from intel-hid on HP platforms

2020-07-06 Thread Dan Streetman
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Press wireless hotkey on HP's latest generation laptops generate two rfkill
events, prevent airplane mode from turning off.

One event is from intel-hid and the other one is from hp-wireless.

  [Fix]
Commit "hwdb: Mask rfkill event from intel-hid on HP platforms", to only use
rfkill from hp-wireless.

  [Test]
With the one-liner fix, press wireless hotkey only generate one rfkill event,
hence airplane mode works as expected.

  [Regression Potential]
Low, use hp-wireless over intel-hid is anticipated.
+
+ any regression would likely result in missed rfkill events.
+
+ [scope]
+
+ this is fixed upstream by commit
+ d8a9dd0dc17df77229d079afe29c05ae4a9e2ae9 which is not included in any

+

[Bug 1838329] Re: Cryptswap periodically fails to mount at boot due to missing a udev notification

2020-07-06 Thread Dan Streetman
** Description changed:

+ [impact]
+
+ systems using cryptsetup-based encrypted swap may hang during boot due
+ to udevd missing the notification that swap has been setup on the newly
+ created swap device.
+
+ [test case]
+
+ see original description, and reproduction is intermittent based on
+ timing
+
+ [regression potential]
+
+ any regression would likely occur during, or after, boot when creating
+ an encrypted swap device and/or while waiting to activate the new swap
+ device. Regressions may cause failure to correctly enable swap and/or
+ hung boot waiting for the swap device.
+
+ [scope]
+
+ this was (potentially) fixed upstream with PR 15836, which is not yet
+ included in any upstream release, so this is needed in all releases,
+ including groovy.
+
+ also note while the upstream bug is closed, and code review seems to
+ indicate this *should* fix this specific issue, there are some comments
+ in the upstream bug indicating it may not completely solve the problem,
+ although there is no further debug of the new reports.
+
+ [original description]
+
On some systems, cryptsetup-based encrypted swap partitions cause
systemd to get stuck at boot. This is a timing-sensitive Heisenbug, so
the rate of occurrence varies from one system to another. Some hardware
will not experience the issue at all, others will only occasionally
experience the issue, and then there are the unlucky who are unable to
boot at all, no matter how many times they restart.

The workaround is for the cryptsetup-generator to generate cryptswap
service entries that call `udevadm trigger` after `mkswap`. This will
ensure that the udev event is triggered, so that systemd is notified
that the encrypt swap partition is ready to activate. This patch has
already been submitted upstream to systemd, but it was not accepted
because it is a workaround for the side effect of systemd not seeing the
udev event upon creating the swap partition.
