[Bug 1924823] Re: ESP on install medium automatically configured as ESP for install, failing install
I prepared dc7700 using MBR/dos partition table & single partition (done using gparted on hiruste live). Did a QA-test install equivalent to comment #9 except partitioning was done using gparted before ubiquity was run. (MBR/dos partition table, single partition being sda1) (representing my many boxes that have MBR/dos partition tables & four primary partitions, and an upgrade-via-re-install; thus no-format was selected on sda1. I did get warning about old files impacting install, but partition was empty (valid warning given how I'm using it though) grub-install failed & system failed to boot. no warning messages as per my last comment #17 for comments written as I QA-test refer to http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/419/builds/229742/testcases/1302/results/ alas I forgot to `mount |grep target` as I've done some of my prior installs, but on screen all reported boot loader was going to sda (disk) not sdb (installation-media-thumb-drive) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924823 Title: ESP on install medium automatically configured as ESP for install, failing install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1924823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1924895] Re: Settings crashes as soon as it is opened
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924895 Title: Settings crashes as soon as it is opened To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1924895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1886059] Re: gnome-shell crashed with assertion failure "!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost" [xcb_io.c:260]
You don't need to remove 'ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com', 'ubuntu- d...@ubuntu.com', and 'desktop-icons@csoriano' because those are the core Ubuntu extensions. Also the set of 'enabled-extensions' does not have to correlate at all with the set of installed extensions. You can install an extension and have it disabled, although disabled extensions can still break things in some cases. That's probably not an issue here. [Bug 1924823] Re: ESP on install medium automatically configured as ESP for install, failing install
@juliank, the install was done on a nearby test box (near my primary system) simulating a usual install which really will be a MBR/legacy partition table the GPT was automatically created when I selected new (I'd have chosen MBR if given a choice); the systems where this matters are all MBR and have all four primary partitions already utilized No warning messages were shown I'm sure !. http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/419/builds/229694/testcases/1302/results is the QA-test report. If a message had shown, I'd likely have realized it was GPT & gone back and created MBR (or pre-prepared as I'd done in most prior QA-test installs in hirsute/this cycle using gparted) as that is my actual intended install case (ie. upgrade an existing/prior Ubuntu install from long ago). The simple 'install' strategy was used ONLY to make it easier to re- produce the problem. Reports made duplicate of this include my actual install boxes with systems I do care about (d755-5, d780 etc). All are multi-boot with all primary partitions already utilized. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924823 Title: ESP on install medium automatically configured as ESP for install, failing install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1924823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1923040] Re: en-gb thesaurus is missing
Thanks for your response. I looked a bit more into it, and it seems that the official recommended way of dealing with this problem is the symlink approach, and that en-GB is explicitly provided by the en-US package - the compiler of the thesaurus intentionally combined both languages' spelling variants as synonyms within the same thesaurus. http://astarix.co.uk/2012/06/proper-british-language-tools-libreoffice/ https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=749204 https://askubuntu.com/questions/42850/how-do-i-add-english-uk-thesaurus-and-other-locales-to-libreoffice In fact, it even gives the right British-English options. When I test it in LibreOffice, and search for the word "hue", it prompts me with both "color" (USA) and "colour" (GB). Similarly, it offers "aluminium" and "aluminum" as synonyms, and "pavement" and "sidewalk". So, please reconsider - or at least create a metapackage "mythes-en-GB" which depends on "mythes-en" and contains the symlinks. (After all, should a better solution arise i.e. someone compiles a dedicated en-GB thesaurus, we can always improve, but this approach gets 99.9% of the way there, vs. nothing, - and in the unlikely event that the GB-user ends up with a US-english word, such as "color", it is already caught by the GB-english spellchecker). ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #749204 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=749204 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1923040 Title: en-gb thesaurus is missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice-dictionaries/+bug/1923040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1924934] [NEW] 'disks' program faulty
Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu Mate 20.10 5.8.0-49-generic I have a 2TB external disk which contains two 1TB partitions. The first partition is a dd copy of another 1TB disk with directories and files on it (my films). dd was successful in its' operation and the new external disk performs as expected. dd has left 1TB free space after the operation which I want to use. I had no options appear on the 'Additional Partition Options' menu. This I understood to be because the free space was not partitioned. The only options were in the 'Drive Options' menu. I opted for Format Disk. This I now believe to be the wrong thing to do because it did indeed format the disk. I now have 2TB of free space instead of 2 x 1TB partitions with one full of my directories and files. I believe the gnome-disk-utility to have a bug inasmuch that there is not an option to format the free space on a disk that has been 'correctly' formatted and written to using dd. ** Affects: parted (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924934 Title: 'disks' program faulty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/parted/+bug/1924934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1924932] [NEW] Nautilus default behaviour for executable scripts is poor
Public bug reported: This is a papercut / quality of life issue that's really annoying me. On other file managers, if you set an .sh file as executable, it will offer to do something. With Ubuntu + Nautilus, it always by default just opens it in a text editor. This is really annoying and frankly a bad default to have. I know there's the right click menu to run as program, but since Ubuntu is trying to appeal to the masses here, good default behaviour is needed IMO. Example: you download a Linux game from GOG, you make it executable and then you double click to run -> wait a while as text editor tries to load a multiple GB installer .sh script, which is made with MojoSetup (it's a graphical app). Other file managers first ask what to do with a box like: "run? open as file? run in terminal?". Ubuntu should ideally do this too. I just don't think auto-opening big .sh executable files by default, in a text editor, is very good for users. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Description changed: This is a papercut / quality of life issue that's really annoying me. [Bug 1893964] Re: Installation of Ubuntu Groovy with manual partitioning without an EFI System Partition fails on 'grub-install /dev/sda' even on non-UEFI systems
@jeremie2 Ah, fair enough. Mostly I use Ventoy these days, and once the USB key is formatted with Ventoy, you just copy .ISO files onto it and they automagically appear in the Ventoy boot menu. So no need for Balena Etcher etc. any more. Ventoy itself is bootable on BIOS and UEFI PCs and on Intel Macs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893964 Title: Installation of Ubuntu Groovy with manual partitioning without an EFI System Partition fails on 'grub-install /dev/sda' even on non-UEFI systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1893964/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
