[Bug 1925985] Re: CVE-2021-22204
Following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/SponsorsQueue , I can now subscribe ubuntu-security-sponsors : 1. Your patch is in debdiff format It is. 2. The patch follows the security team update procedures. Especially: - targeted against the security pocket of a stable release I think so, but I'm not exactly sure what a "security pocket" is. This is a patch against 20.04 LTS to fix an arbitrary code execution, so it seems appropriate. I've updated the patch to have 'focal-security' as distribution, as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Packaging. - uses the correct version The version 11.88-1ubuntu1 is created by dch, so I'm assuming it is correct. (Maybe it should be 11.88-1ubuntu0.1 ?) - mentions a CVE, and preferably a LP bug #. The diff mentions CVE-2021-22204 and (LP: #1925985), which is this bug. - Check your .changes file to make sure that you have the right revision and distribution I've put 'focal-security' as distribution, which seemed the most appropriate. 3. All changes in the patch are intentional They are. 4. Your patch applies cleanly It does. 5. The Status and Assignment are correct I cannot change the status, but it seems OK. 6. Please comment on the testing performed. I've tested the patched package with echo_vakzz.jpg from https://hackerone.com/reports/1154542 on a development workstation. (So not on a clean Ubuntu installation.) - If all of the above is in order, please subscribe ubuntu-security-sponsors OK. ** Patch added: "update with focal-security as distribution" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libimage-exiftool-perl/+bug/1925985/+attachment/5503783/+files/libimage-exiftool-perl_11.88-1ubuntu1.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925985 Title: CVE-2021-22204 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libimage-exiftool-perl/+bug/1925985/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1931104] Re: Test of dogtag-pki is failing on s390x vs the nss v3.63 in impish-proposed
Without the recent PPC fixes s390x was broken as well, so I'm not saying "the ppc fixes broke s390x": https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-impish-ci-train-ppa-service-4577/impish/s390x/d/dogtag-pki/20210608_073451_f187d@/log.gz Instead there seems to be a new crash affecting s390x that has to be looked at to be able to rev up the nss version. Tagging server-next and subscribing the team as this is no more a +1 task. If we are lucky the always dilligent locutus (who often merges nss) might come by and give it a short as well when we have latter nss versions. ** Tags added: server-next -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931104 Title: Test of dogtag-pki is failing on s390x vs the nss v3.63 in impish- proposed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nss/+bug/1931104/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1931518] Re: grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.167~18.04.1+2.04-1ubuntu44 has broken non-EFI install
It is safe to install on non efi systems, and as shipped, Ubuntu provides an EFI system partition mounted at /boot/efi. It appears on your system this partition is no longer mounted, causing the error. It is correct for grub to fail the upgrade rather than leaving the ESP contents not updated. If you are not going to have /boot/efi mounted, the other option is to uninstall shim-signed and grub-efi-amd64-signed; this will prevent you from transitioning this install to use UEFI in the future. ** Changed in: grub2-signed (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931518 Title: grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.167~18.04.1+2.04-1ubuntu44 has broken non-EFI install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+bug/1931518/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1929657] Re: [Ubuntu 20.4.2] vLan not getting static IP assigned (on s390x)
Ok, the line that concerns me is: " enP53p0s0.171: link pending udev initialization... " It looks like systemd-networkd thinks that udev is not done with enP53p0s0.171 --> "pending", but configuring it with ip works - so could be networkd or also udevd. So lets expand the journal output with the udev messages and share it again: journalctl -b -u systemd-networkd -u systemd-udevd --no-pager Please can you also share the output of: apt-cache policy systemd udev netplan.io Investigations pointed me to: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/15445#issuecomment-776856604 (changing the interface name at some point could be interesting, too...) [Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS
So we will just let it go? Or, somebody from mainline kernel team is looking into the matter? This is ridiculous, what is the point of having a 5 year LTS which can't support the newest kernels that are necessary for newer hardware? In simple words, one cannot use Ubuntu LTS with new hardware. One needs to use the latest ubuntu OS which might be plagued with bugs and many other issues, and furthermore keep changing it every 6 months? [Bug 1931514] Re: The NVIDIA X server Settings is blank when under Intel mode
The root cause is that the nvidia_loaded is false cause in Power Saving Mode, and nvidia_kmod_available is also false cause couldn't find nvidia.ko correctly, so it wont' do set_offloading() which cause nvidia-settings is blank. Now we used the linux-modules-nvidia-5.10.0-xxx-oem package to support secure boot, and it will install the nvidia.ko in /lib/modules/5.10.0-xxx-oem/kernel/nvidia-460/, so we need fix the source code to detect the nvidia modules correctly. else if ((intel_loaded || amdgpu_loaded) && !nouveau_loaded && (nvidia_loaded || nvidia_kmod_available)) { fprintf(log_handle, "NVIDIA hybrid system\n"); /* Try to enable prime */ if (enable_prime(prime_settings, &discrete_device, current_devices, cards_n)) { /* Write permanent settings about offloading */ set_offloading(); } ** Tags added: oem-priority originate-from-1931328 sutton -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931514 Title: The NVIDIA X server Settings is blank when under Intel mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1931514/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 115153]
Not sure if I'm seeing the same bug, or a different one, for me it has started happening a month or two ago, affecting news but not mail. I normally view sorted by order received, threaded, ascending I quite frequently switch between all and unread messages Using the menu/view/sort-by/order received, I see the "selected" indicator dot against "order received" and I see the "^" sort indicator in the order received column header of the message list pane. If I then swap between unread and all messages using the dropdown in the toolbar, I see the "^" indicator moves to the date column header, at this point the menu/view/sort-by still shows the selected indicator dot next to the order received entry But if I then navigate to a different group, and then switch back to the original group, there is no longer *any* indicator in the menu under view/sort-by and the sorting is messed up. I can always reselect order received and it will sort properly until I alter the all/unread toggle and navigate between different groups, then the sort is broken again. [Bug 115153]
I'm not sure if I have the same problem but I'll explain it. Messages I received in Thunderbird did not actually have the right 'Received' date. So I added mailnews.customDBHeaders = " Received" and now the received column shows the date when my mail was actually received. But sorting by 'Received' is still no different from supporting by date. So I tried 'Order Received' and that seems to work except with threaded messages. For example ascending threaded: foo 100 bar 102 -re:bar 105 qux 103 So I would expect that the 'bar' thread would come after qux but it doesn't. This is actually a big problem sometimes because I have a lot of messages in my inbox and sometimes when they don't arrive for several days they end up way back earlier in the list and I don't even notice them. I will upload two screenshots. In fairness that happens rarely but I'm surprised this bug has been open for a decade. [Bug 1931499] Re: cannot upgrade from 16 to 18
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The 'ppc' architecture is no longer a supported architecture. This was announced long ago, ie. https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel- announce/2016-December/001199.html Because of this, I've changed the bug status to 'Invalid' as you are not on a supported architecture for the intended upgrade process. [Bug 1864961] Re: tests ignore RC and have 15 fails left
Debian is now shipping two sets of code in php-imagick, one for PHP 7.x and earlier and one for PHP 8.0 and newer. Current results on impish (with the former codebase, i.e. PHP 7.4): = TEST RESULT SUMMARY - Exts skipped:0 Exts tested : 15 - Number of tests : 276 252 Tests skipped : 24 ( 8.7%) Tests warned:2 ( 0.7%) ( 0.8%) Tests failed:0 ( 0.0%) ( 0.0%) Tests passed: 250 ( 90.6%) ( 99.2%) - Time taken : 37 seconds = With the newer (PHP 8.0-enabled) codebase the original test skips appear to be resolved, however there are now some test failures. [Bug 1931510] [NEW] [SRU] Thunar CVE-2021-32563 (focal, groovy, hirsute)
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: [Impact] CVE-2021-32563 affects Thunar versions found in supported releases. https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2021-32563 >From the CVE: An issue was discovered in Thunar before 4.16.7 and 4.17.x before 4.17.2. When called with a regular file as a command-line argument, it delegates to a different program (based on the file type) without user confirmation. This could be used to achieve code execution. Related upstream issues: - https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/121 - https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/575 The patches required for each supported release can be found here: 1.8.x for focal, groovy: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/commit/1b85b96ebf7cb9bf6a3ddf1acee7643643fdf92d 4.16.x for hirsute: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/commit/9165a61f95e43cc0b5abf9b98eee2818a0191e0b https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/commit/3b54d9d7dbd7fd16235e2141c43a7f18718f5664 [Test Plan] 1. Execute `thunar ~/Pictures/icon.png` 2. The default application loads the file. Expected behavior: Thunar should instead open, selecting the file. [Where problems could occur] Scripts and applications depending on the previous functionality will be adversely affected. Since this functionality (opening the default application instead of navigating to it) is specific to Thunar and not found in other file managers, this change should have minimal regression impact. [Bug 1931506] Re: Display wakes up after locking screen (backlight on, black screen)
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1931506/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1931306] Re: bionic: postfix-dbgsym package lacks DWARF information
OK, I was able to determine that a rebuild of the package will likely solve this issue. Here's a PPA with the rebuild: https://launchpad.net/~sergiodj/+archive/ubuntu/postfix-debuginfo You can verify that the .debug files that were generated by this build contain the proper DWARF information that is needed to debug postfix. Note: I haven't tried to actually debug postfix using GDB; I just inspected the .debug file using eu-readelf. + Added the PPA and installed, now ibus stays "on" after openning the dialog. 👍️ - `ibus restart` still doesnt work: "Can't connect to IBus" Would be nice to also have a cmd-line option working for this case. FYI: Btw: here's another reason for quitting/restarting ibus: if I call `killall python3` on my machine, ibus/anthy (?) seems to get into an inconsistent state, which prevents input on certain apps. [Bug 1931497] Re: Patch To Fix Bug in the Linux Block Layer Responsible For Merging BIOs
** Description changed: There is a bug in the Linux block layer responsible for merging BIOs that go across the page boundary. This bug was introduced in Linux 5.1 when the block layer BIO page tracking is enhanced to support multiple pages. Without this patch, data corruption can occur. The change to the kernel block layer in Linux 5.1 changes the way multiple pages are merged to a single block I/O descriptor, and how contiguous block I/O descriptors are merged with previous descriptors. If contiguous block I/O requests cross a page boundary of 4k, defined by the hv_storvsc driver, the new block merge process can create two pages of block I/O requests (the latter page with an offset) that refer to the same physical sector on disk. This page list is then assembled for the SCSI generic driver. In the above scenario, when the block I/O request sizes are 512 bytes, the Azure LIS driver (hv_storvsc module) is not able to correctly parse the page array from the SCSI generic driver due to this bug in Linux block layer and creates a potential overflow of offset I/O requests and corruption of data on disk. Mitigation of data loss is proven with filesystems with block size 4k. When block I/O requests are of sizes 4k or multiples of 4k, they are the page aligned in the memory and are not affected by the block I/O merging algorithm introduced in Linux 5.1. Most modern file systems use 4k I/O block size by default, thus mitigating this problem. We have submitted a patch to Linux mainline kernel to fix this: - https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux- - block/patch/1623094445-22332-1-git-send-email-lon...@linuxonhyperv.com/ + https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/axboe/linux- + block.git/commit/?h=for-next&id=c9c9762d4d44dcb1b2ba90cfb4122dc11ceebf31 c9c9762d4d44 ("block: return the correct bvec when checking for gaps") Please include this patch in any supported kernels that are 5.1 or later. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931497 Title: Patch To Fix Bug in the Linux Block Layer Responsible For Merging BIOs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/+bug/1931497/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
