[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-11-09 Thread Andrea Righi
Alright, I checked with Chris Chiu, he confirms that all the tests
kernels that he provided don't have -fcf-protection=none. However, we
still don't think that touching this compiler option is a proper fix for
the bug, more likely it's just hiding the problem, so we could still
have a potential stack corruption somewhere.

If possible I would like to test a kernel with KASAN enabled to see if
we can get additional information about the stack corruption.

I've prepared another test kernel (latest 5.13.0-22-generic w/ KASAN enabled):
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~arighi/lp1945590/

If anybody could test this and share the kernel oops/panic info here
it'd be great! And hopefully this will help us to understand exactly
where and how the stack corruption happens.

[Bug 1908223] Re: nmap 7.80 crashes with Assertion `htn.toclock_running == true'

2021-11-09 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Dear Ubuntu maintainers, do you have any plans of fixing this bug in Ubuntu
20.04 before Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release?
In upstream nmap it is said to be fixed since version 7.90 .
Do you consider importing version 7.92 into Ubuntu Focal ?

[Bug 1950405] Re: Boot logo badly formatted at start/stop of system

2021-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think Plymouth tries to use the same resolution on all monitors. I'm
not sure how that is chosen.

The attached photo looks like it's rendering a buffer that's higher
resolution than either monitor and then can only display the top left
portion. That will put anything at the centre of the buffer nearer to
the bottom right of the screen.

Or it might just be a centring bug.

[Bug 1888598] Re: Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake

2021-11-09 Thread Hui Wang
We have an OEM bug which is similar to this one. I don't know if it is
the exact same issue as this one, to fix that issue, I did some change
in the module-card-restore.c, and If users is on the ubuntu Linux 20.04,
please try this testing-pulseaudio (try 2 hours later since the building
process has not finished yet):
https://launchpad.net/~hui.wang/+archive/ubuntu/pa-testing

steps:
rm ~/.config/pulse/*
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hui.wang/pa-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install pulseaudio
reboot
start to test.

[Bug 1950355] Re: Intense screen flickering, vertical rainbow bars, display problems on Ubuntu 20.04, Lenovo X1 Carbon

2021-11-09 Thread Amol
After validating that I didn't seem to get issues with 20.04.2 I fully
replaced 20.04.3 with the previous version.

I can edit the grub config, but would that impact a live disk? If yes, I
can try editing grub, loading into the .2 version on a live disk, and
play around until I see an issue.

Also worth pointing out that I will sometimes see no graphics issues for
a while, and other times see graphics issues constantly (which is also
in line with the screen connection hypothesis). It's possible the same
is true for 20.04.3 -- I may just not have seen the graphical
irregularities appear yet.

Let me know about the grub config.

[Bug 1950411] [NEW] package libc6 2.27-3ubuntu1.4 failed to install/upgrade: new libc6:amd64 package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 30

2021-11-09 Thread john kuras
Public bug reported:

Attempted a do-release-upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 on Windows 10.

First attempt failed due to snap being installed. So, I removed and
purged snapd.

The second attempt got pretty far along before it also failed. It looks
like it found a file named /var/crash/libc6.0.crash existing on my file
system and didn't know what to do.

[Bug 1942789] Re: On-demand and RTD3 need to be separated

2021-11-09 Thread jeremyszu
Hi Brian,

Let me think about your case, it's not a fresh installed system since
all nvidia drivers are backward compatible. Thus, user will get the
newer (e.g. 460 or 470) when installing the new stock ubuntu.

Since the Bug1942307, I will assume the user is staying at "nvidia" mode
if user didn't select the nvidia mode manually. (which means the
"/etc/prime-discrete" is "on" in the users you worry about)

[Bug 1950393] Re: GDM session crashes on suspend on Ubuntu 21.10

2021-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

Your log shows evidence of bug 1949352 but that probably doesn't explain
"session crashes".

The most common GDM crash we are seeing in 21.10 is bug 1945061. But to
confirm exactly which crash you are experiencing here, please follow
these instructions:

[Bug 1950355] Re: Intense screen flickering, vertical rainbow bars, display problems on Ubuntu 20.04, Lenovo X1 Carbon

2021-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
At first this looks like a hardware fault to me. It looks like what
happens when I replace a laptop screen and it doesn't get a clean
electrical connection. The same can happen if it has received some bumps
and intermittently loses connections on some pins.

However there's a chance this is a kernel bug and your observation that
20.04.2 does not have a problem supports that theory...

Please:

1. Edit /etc/default/grub and change:

   GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

   to

   GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.enable_psr=0"

2. Run: sudo update-grub

3. Reboot.

Does that fix the problem?

[Bug 1950316] Re: desktop UI unresponsive

2021-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report and for taking the time to make a video.

It appears the gnome-shell process is frozen (likely crashed). The mouse
cursor works still because it's managed by the Xorg process.

Next time the problem happens, please:

1. Wait 10 seconds.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

4. Attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1947467] Re: GNOME 40 wayland-session exiting fullscreen doesn't restore original size & position

2021-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This will be fixed in gnome-shell 40.6 by:

commit aded2cd01b7af4d2bf355ed7cb129c6b869d84fb
Author: Florian Müllner
Date: Wed Nov 3 20:53:06 2021 +0100

Revert "layout: Exclude hidden actors from struts"

The change unvealed a series of mutter bugs that for most
users are worse than the issue that was fixed. So revert
the change on stable branches until the mutter side is
fixed.

This reverts commit cd1102ff30b134e45e9b5ab48318e6a4eae03416.

[Bug 1944216] Re: nvidia-340 340.108-0ubuntu5.20.04.2: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build

2021-11-09 Thread sdtrott
Is anyone ever going to come up with a fix for this? This has been going
on for a long time. The only way I can launch Linux now is by using the
5.8 kernel. Is it possible to remove the faulty 5.11 kernel so that I
can launch directly into 5.8?

2021-11-09 Thread Daniel LaSalle
I have done per requested.

What do you mean by "and share a link here"? Do you want me to visit
https://github.com/OpenPrinting/system-config-printer/issues , create
the same type of issue there and repaste the URL back here? Please
advise.

Also, FYI: doing this on 3x different 21.10 systems and all giving the
same never-ending-IP-output as displayed in the previously attached .png
(all systems on same LAN all pointing to same printer of course)

[Bug 1950201] Re: Gnugpg does not offer the option to store the private and public keys on two different keycards.

2021-11-09 Thread Hveem
Seth Arnold (seth-arnold) Yes, but one still have to do the control+c,
as that is less tedious.

quote " Ideally, there should be a option in the gpg menu about this,
that asks about permanently moving the keys.

A nice addition would be something like:

Do you want to make a separate identical key card? ( Y/N)
And a warning about the permament moving of the keys.

[Bug 1950201] Re: Gnugpg does not offer the option to store the private and public keys on two different keycards.

2021-11-09 Thread Hveem
** Description changed:

Gnugpg does not offer the option to store the private and public keys on
  two different keycards.

- I have followed the official yubikey guide as follows, but it might
- apply to similar smart cards and USB tokens:
+ I have followed the official yubikey guide as follows,
+ ( found here :
https://support.yubico.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013790259-Using-Your-YubiKey-with-OpenPGP
 )
+ but it might apply to similar smart cards and USB tokens:

To import the key on your YubiKey:

Insert the YubiKey into the USB port if it is not already plugged
  in.

Enter the GPG command: gpg --edit-key 1234ABC (where 1234ABC is the
  key ID of your key)

  Enter the command: keytocard

When prompted if you really want to move your primary key, enter y
  (yes).

When prompted where to store the key, select 1. This will move the
signature subkey to the PGP signature slot of the YubiKey.

  Enter the command: key 1
  Enter the command: keytocard

When prompted where to store the key, select 2. This will move the
  encryption subkey to the YubiKey.

  Enter the command: key 1

  Enter the command: key 2

  Enter the command: keytocard

When prompted where to store the key, select 3. This will move the
  authentication subkey to the YubiKey.

  Enter the command: quit
When prompted to save your changes, enter y (yes). You have now saved
your keyring to your YubiKey.

The issue with that is that it permanently moves the secret keys to the
yubikey or similar, and that causes issues later if one wants to create
  backup keys.

If one saves the changes and tries to make a separate identical key card
at a later date, one gets the "gpg: KEYTOCARD failed: Unusable secret
  key." error.

I have read that if one presses control and c ( on Linux ) it after the last
keytocard and option 3, the secret keys will not be deleted from the computer,
only copied.
One then can start forward again at this step: gpg --edit-key 1234ABC (where
1234ABC is the key ID of your key). Another possible but tedious workaround is
to backup the secret keys and public keys,
and import those back into gpg, then move they keys to a physical backup key.

( Note: Key 0 is the primary signature subkey. Key 1is the encryption
subkey. key 2 is the authentication subkey .)

-
- Ideally, there should be a option in the gpg menu about this, that asks about
permanently moving the keys.
+ Ideally, there should be a option in the gpg menu about this, that asks
+ about permanently moving the keys.

  A nice addition would be:

Do you want to make a separate identical key card?

The dmesg.txt would appear to indicate some media error, though whether
that's the root medium is not clear (the df output is equally strange
given the root file-system apparently has "none" filesystem).

I'll set this to incomplete; could you confirm if this is still an issue
and, if so, provide some more details about the setup as it does appear
to be missing some things (like a mount of the boot partition for one).
