[Bug 1799613] Re: In kernel 4.14.59, monitor resolution is detected correctly. In kernels after that, they are not detected correctly.
Hello, Every time I re-image my computer, I have to frantically search the internet for this bug report to fix this issue. It is now 5 years after the initial bug report, and it is still unfixed. Since then, I've upgraded my CPU and my RAM and swapped out a new video card (still an AMD but a newer fancier 590 instead of that lowly POS 560). I've also bought a house, and had 2 children with an option on a third, I've experienced major life changes, I've laughed, I've cried, and I've grown. Life is full of changes, some for the better and some for the worse, but change is inevitable, it's built into the very nature of our world, but it is good to know that some things never change. I don't know if I'm the only person on the planet who runs into it, I don't know what amd.dc=0 means, but to celebrate the release of Plasma 6 I ran this fix again. I hope that, in 2 or 4 or 10 years, if I'm still using these same monitors, I'll still run into this issue, and this belief now binds me, grounds me, humbles me, and keeps me oriented. This bug is my North Star. When I have to re-find this thread in order to remember what it is I have to do to work around this issue, I know that the tempest, for a moment, is o'er, and that I am anchored in bug divine. Maybe one day I'll learn what amd.dc=0 does, and why it needs to be added to grub, but it is not this day. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799613 Title: In kernel 4.14.59, monitor resolution is detected correctly. [Bug 2055436] Re: Package recommends nonexistent "bind-doc" package
Thanks for making this bug report and making Ubuntu better Bradley! This is very easy to reproduce. There was some history around renaming in the debian commit history that I was reading, and I think this was accidentally changed up in Debian. I submitted a MR to update this in debian[0] so we will see how that goes. Regarding this bug, it does guide the user to installing the bind9-doc package. I don't particularly think this bug is worth SRUing for, but should definitely be picked up for the next development release. Please let me know if you think otherwise. [Bug 2055226] Re: mount option `users` blocks ntfs to mount
Both options and a third exist. Extract from man mount in section FILESYSTEM-INDEPENDENT MOUNT OPTIONS: user Allow an ordinary user to mount the filesystem. The name of the mounting user is written to the mtab file (or to the private libmount file in /run/mount on systems without a regular mtab) so that this same user can unmount the filesystem again. This option implies the options noexec, nosuid, and nodev (unless overridden by subsequent options, as in the option line user, exec, dev, suid). nouser Forbid an ordinary user to mount the filesystem. This is the default; it does not imply any other options. users Allow any user to mount and to unmount the filesystem, even when some other ordinary user mounted it. This option implies the options noexec, nosuid, and nodev (unless overridden by subsequent options, as in the option line users, exec, dev, suid). gio mount is the command line variant to simulate a mount by a GUI tool like Nautilus, just used to get the error message. gio invokes udiskctl under the hood. ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055226 Title: mount option `users` blocks ntfs to mount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/2055226/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2055077] Re: cloudinit.sources.DataSourceEc2:583 Calling 'None' failed
Reflecting this context to the bug instead of IRC messages. There are a number of issues at play here: 1. edubuntu images do not provide /var/lib/cloud/seed/nocloud/user-data or meta-data files which allow cloud-init in Ubuntu Desktop images to detect cloud-init's NoCloud datasource. 2. /usr/lib/cloud-init/ds-identify is used to quickly limit any viable datasources on a system during systemd generator timeframe. inability to find any datasources will leave cloud-init with a disabled status. 3. subiquity (and live desktop images) make a call to cloud-init status to block on cloud-init completion: either disabled or enabled with user-data 4. subiquity calls cloud-init's stages.Init() function to query for any actionable `autoinstall` key in user-data presented in #cloud-config provided to the machine at boot. The problem appears due to cloud-init being disabled/inert due to step #2. Subiquity's subsequent waiting on cloud-init status doesn't consider `disabled` state of cloud-init in #3 and invokes stages.Init() directly in step #4 when there really isn't any possible way we'd have user-data. The side-effect of cloud-init's stages.Init() call is: if no detected datasources are present, stages.Init() is trying to be helpful and try discovering datasources for you at runtime. Since ds-identify never found any datasource, it didn't limit the list of all potential datasources in /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/90_dpkg.cfg. So, stages.Init() happily walks through all costly detection/discover logic for 31 datasource. Short-term we could tidy up the edubuntu image flavor to ensure cloud-init can minimally detect an empty nocloud datasource by providing empty files at /var/lib/cloud/seed/nocloud/user-data and /var/lib/cloud/seed/nocloud/meta-data. That'll leave cloud-init in an enabled state that current subiquity code can invoke stages.Init() without side-effects. long-term: - subiquity should probably double check cloud-init disabled status and avoid calling stages.Init() if cloud-init is "disabled" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055077 Title: cloudinit.sources.DataSourceEc2:583 Calling 'None' failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/2055077/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2033892] Re: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled
Considerations for the SRU team: I confirmed that the behavior in Jammy is different than Focal and Mantic, the previous / next supported releases. (Steps in the next comment.) So, although this SRU changes behavior in a stable release (generally not OK in SRUs), it is actually Jammy that changed behavior _across_ stable releases (and to a buggy one!). Thus, the SRU is reasonably _restoring_ (arguably, _fixing_) the _expected_ behavior. So, this looks OK for SRU, IMHO. Additionally, I considered two points before sponsoring this. 1) The impact of the code changes to non-autofs/non-automount: And it seems virtually zero, considering the man pages explain the flag now used in statx() is used in other related syscalls (stat, lstat, fstatat), which have it implied since Linux 4.11. And it indeed only affects automount (note the flag name). So, even though this change is "new" in Jammy, it's been tested in older and later releases for a long time (pre-Bionic kernels). stat(2): AT_NO_AUTOMOUNT (since Linux 2.6.38) [...] Since Linux 4.11 this flag is implied. statx(2): AT_NO_AUTOMOUNT [...] All of stat(2), lstat(2), and fstatat(2) act as though AT_NO_AUTOMOUNT was set. 2) Whether users may have started to rely on this behavior I agree this is unlikely, and think so because of 3 points: 2.1) This behavior did not exist in previous releases, which reduces the chances it has been 'learned' before. 2.2) The usage of autofs/automount rely on access to be made _to a particular mountpoint_ in order for it to be _mounted_. This is reflected in different documentation sources online, so it is likely that this is the way that has been 'learned'. 2.3) The safe side is, _even if_ an user started to rely on this behavior to automount the subdirs, the very next thing they will do (if they actually need that subdir mounted) is to _access_ that subdir - which can mount it just as before! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2033892 Title: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coreutils/+bug/2033892/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2047298] Re: Building ghdl fails if LLVM and Clang versions are not provided explicitly
This has been in noble-proposed since October of last year[1]. If we fix that now, this will trigger a mini transition because of the soname change of libghdl. It looks like the only reverse-dependency is yosys- plugin-ghdl, which would need rebuilding. Do we even know if it rebuilds correctly? Here is what I would feel more comfortable with as next steps: - prepare a PPA, enable noble-proposed, and rebuild yosys-plugin-ghdl, making sure it uses ghdl 3 and that libghdl-3-0-0 shows up in its Depends line - get a release team ACK for this, could be on IRC. If they ask for a formal FFe, then be it. Had this been uploaded recently to noble-proposed, I wouldn't mind, but it's been sitting there for many months now. I might be being too cautious: another patch pilot might have a different opinion, specially since these packages are in universe. 1. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghdl/3.0.0+dfsg2-1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2047298 Title: Building ghdl fails if LLVM and Clang versions are not provided explicitly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghdl/+bug/2047298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2055707/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 2055726] [NEW] If Kubuntu installation fails, Plasma crashes when attempting to launch once Calamares quits
Public bug reported: OS: Kubuntu Noble. Hardware: Raw QEMU VM. Attempt to install Kubuntu using Calamares. It will fail due to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/2054795. After installation failure however, Plasma will attempt to launch, and then crash, possibly multiple times. This is because Calamares is causing /home/kubuntu/.cache to be owned by root. This trips up Plasma and causes it to crash. The solution is to `chown -R 1000:1000 /home/kubuntu/.cache` immediately after kubuntu-installer-prompt exits in /usr/libexec/start-kubuntu-live- env. This fixes the ownership of the directory before Plasma starts. I've tested this in a VM and it works. ** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Assignee: Aaron Rainbolt (arraybolt3) Status: Triaged ** Changed in: calamares (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: calamares (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Triaged ** Changed in: calamares (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: calamares (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Aaron Rainbolt (arraybolt3) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055726 Title: If Kubuntu installation fails, Plasma crashes when attempting to launch once Calamares quits To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/2055726/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2055077] Re: cloudinit.sources.DataSourceEc2:583 Calling 'None' failed
** Description changed: Install ISOs built with the stock cloud-init /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg will have the installer hang for some time, while it waits for attempts to reach EC2 that will ultimately fail. - In livecd-rootfs, the fix is to supply the special installer cloud.cfg - file for all Subiquity-backend install cases. + In livecd-rootfs, I thought the fix was going to be to supply the + special installer cloud.cfg file for all Subiquity-backend install + cases, but doing so is insufficient so more investigation is needed. In cloud-init, I also believe there is a bug here, as there appears to be a call to a None reference. [Bug 2026757] Re: dnsmasq on Ubuntu Jammy crashes on neutron-dhcp-agent updates
From that trace, it looks like it is in this code in dhcp_config_free() when it makes the free() call: #ifdef HAVE_DHCP6 if (config->flags & CONFIG_ADDR6) { struct addrlist *addr, *tmp; for (addr = config->addr6; addr; addr = tmp) { tmp = addr->next; free(addr); } } #endif That *seems* Ok at first look, right? I do like the while() loop above it better :) I do see a potential issue when IPv6 addresses are added to this list, but I think it would just cause a memory leak, search for CONFIG_ADDR6 in that file. Guess I'll have to send that to the list, I can't unsee it now. This now needs a feature freeze exception, as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess. Please follow that process, and after the FFe is granted, subscribe ubuntu-sponsors again. Regarding how you are providing the package to be sponsored, I personally would prefer a git branch against pkg/ubuntu/devel. [Bug 2055720] [NEW] Edubuntu upgrade removed universe repo mantic -> noble
Public bug reported: Upon upgrade from mantic to noble, my bare metal Edubuntu install removed the Universe repo from the installation and, therefore, did not upgrade any Edubuntu-specific packages. I suspect this was caused by the apt DEB-822 upgrade to the repo and not detecting the universe repo as required by the Edubuntu installation. As Edubuntu looks identical to Ubuntu Desktop in terms of installation on the surface due to it also being a GNOME desktop, I suspect an assumption may have been derived from this. [Bug 2055450] Re: Uploading package to server with self-signed certificate on https fails despite adding cert to trust-store
Update: after a lot of discussion with Mitch Burton on the Landscape team, he was able to demonstrate this working with a self-signed certificate. We think that this may actually not be strictly an issue with the self-signed SSL, but rather that the name in the cert is not an FQDN, and instead is just the bare hostname. Upon further testing myself, I swapped the hostname on my test instance from landscape-2310-jammy to landscape-2310-jammy.lxd just as a test. I then updated my /etc/hosts file, the certificates configured in Apache, and imported the newly generated cert into ca-certificates. After this dput worked just fine. dput lds:ubuntu/jammy/upload hello.changes D: Splitting host argument out of lds:ubuntu/jammy/upload. D: Setting host argument. Checking signature on .changes gpg: /root/hello.changes: Valid signature from 5E1E964200F3EA3D Uploading to lds (via https to landscape-2310-jammy.lxd): Uploading hello_2.10-2ubuntu4+esm1_amd64.deb: done. Uploading hello.changes: done. Successfully uploaded packages. This seems to confirm that the issue is not necessarily with dput directly, but in how python's urllib is checking the domain/cert on the connection. This may be something that can be worked around in dput to allow for a bare hostname that is not an FQDN, but either way figured it would be relevant to add this information. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055450 Title: Uploading package to server with self-signed certificate on https fails despite adding cert to trust-store To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dput/+bug/2055450/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Note: I am aware that proxy exceptions can be configured using the "DIRECT" keyword. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055717 Title: Acquire::http::proxy ignored / used inconsistently?
