[Bug 2058785] Re: Blank screen after login on 2nd reboot after install or upgrade. 24.04
Note that interestingly, the newly installed VM screen did start working after an unknown amount of time. I have reboot since and it still isn't working after some minutes. I had disabled screen locking and screen blanking when it last worked, which might be relevant as those wore the operating conditions of the previous VM. ** Attachment added: "A /var/log/syslog fragment." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2058785/+attachment/5758485/+files/gnome-shell.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058785 Title: Blank screen after login on 2nd reboot after install or upgrade. 24.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2058785/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2054480] Re: [MIR] nbd-client
Not to the best of my knowledge, no. It was moved to main very early on; I think it might've been 15 years ago. Perhaps the MIR prices didn't exist yet back then? I wouldn't know, not having heard of the whole thing until I saw this one pass by The client's job is to configure an NBD device in the kernel. It does that through the APIs that the kernel provides. There are two of these in existence; one is an older ioctl-based API, the other is a more recent netlink-based one. As these are the only days you can configure NBD device nodes, it makes sense that the are a lot of ioctl calls... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054480 Title: [MIR] nbd-client To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nbd/+bug/2054480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2058785] [NEW] Blank screen after login on 2nd reboot after install or upgrade. 24.04
Public bug reported: I installed 24.04 on a VM under my main Debian server host on 2024.03.17 and using the daily. It worked fine. After upgrade yesterday and after the 2nd re-boot the screen is blank after login. The screen is okay during re-boot, which I initiaited via an ssh session (I had installed openssh-server). So, I re-installed using the 2024.03.22 daily. Same result. I use VNC for my graphics on my VM's. [Bug 2058557] Re: Kernel panic during checkbox stress_ng_test on Grace running noble 6.8 (arm64+largemem) kernel
Earlier, I said that the device mapper observation did not seem to be a hard line - however, further testing now indicates that the situations where I observed panics when stressing nvme0n1 were due to an unrelated bug that is present in the latest 6.5 mainline tree, but *not* the latest 6.5 Ubuntu kernel tree (6.5.0-26-generic-64k). Therefore, from the perspective of *this* bug report, it once again *does* appear that this issue is only present when stressing dm-0 and not present when stressing a non-device-mapper device. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058557 Title: Kernel panic during checkbox stress_ng_test on Grace running noble 6.8 (arm64+largemem) kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2058557/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

But d/changelog is expecting the name 1.5.0+repack1 (note the "1"). - d/changelog still has UNRELEASED as the ubuntu name, it should be noble - new version should have suffix 0ubuntu1, not 0ubuntu2 - you need to run update-maintainer, to update the maintainer in d/control - the source package still doesn't build, there is a mismatch between the git tree and the orig tarball produced by uscan: dpkg-source: info: local changes detected, the modified files are: lcm/NEWS.md lcm/docs/Doxyfile.in lcm/docs/content/lcm-type-ref.md lcm/docs/content/lua-api.md lcm/docs/content/multicast-setup.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-c.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-cpp.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-dotnet.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-go.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-java.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-lua.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-matlab.md lcm/docs/content/tutorial-python.md lcm/docs/make.bat lcm/examples/cpp/lcm_log_writer/pronto_joint_state_t.lcm lcm/lcm-cmake/lcmUtilities.cmake lcm/lcm-java/lcm/lcm/LCM.java lcm/lcm-java/lcm/logging/LogPlayer.java lcm/lcm-java/lcm/spy/Spy.java lcm/lcm/dbg.h lcm/lcm/windows/WinLCM.cpp dpkg-source: info: Hint: make sure the version in debian/changelog matches the unpacked source tree dpkg-source: info: you can integrate the local changes with dpkg-source --commit dpkg-source: error: aborting due to unexpected upstream changes, see /tmp/lcm_1.5.0+repack1-0ubuntu2.diff.KA4DhE dpkg-buildpackage: error: dpkg-source -I -i -b . subprocess returned exit status 2 - in this commit, do you state that you verified you could to the standards bump without any other changes? You should try to group the changes to the same file that go together, mentioning the files that you changed. And no need to document in d/changelog that d/changelog was updated, for example :). In versions previous to 1.6.2, the checkbox had no + effect and would appear unchecked when reopening the application. + There's no error, but a silent failure. + + * To make matters more confusing, the default settings for Lubuntu, + where Openbox is the default window manager, include setting the related + setting to on. In other words, the default behavior is to center the + windows, but when you look at the configuration manager, it does not + appear to be the case. + + * In addition, the function is maybe not what one would intuitively + expect. It does not center every window, but prefers to place windows in + the center if free space is available. So the first window will be + centered, but if a second one is placed, it will open in the periphery. + This will continue until the full space is occupied and then windows + will open again in the center and the cycle repeats. + + * These three factors make for a really confusing experience for the + end user. + + * The delta is very small, merely adding in an on toggled event. + + [ Test Plan ] + + * To reproduce the bug: +1. Use a Lubuntu Jammy ISO +2. Inspect the default configuration file /etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox/rc.xml and note that the tag under is set to "yes." +3. Note that a local configuration file ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml does not exist +4. Open obconf-qt (see Preferences → LXQt Settings → Openbox Settings) +5. Click on the Windows tab on the left +6. Note that "Center new windows when placed" is unchecked +7. Check the check box and hit close +8. Note that the default configuration file is unchanged but a new local configuration file is created where is set to "yes" +9. Open the Windows tab in obconf-qt again and note that the check box is still unchecked + 10. Check and uncheck the box (which should set center to "no") + 11. Note that the tag is still set to "yes" in the local configuration + + * To test the fix +1. Use a Lubuntu Jammy ISO +2. Install the new version of obconf-qt +3. Remembering that centering is the default in the configuration file and the buggy version shows that it is not checked, open obconf-qt and note that now the option *is* checked +4. Uncheck the box +5. Inspect the local configuration file and note that is now set to "no" + + [ Where problems could occur ] + + * Honestly, I think the only problem that could occur is that, based on + the string description of the setting, users may expect all new windows + to open in the center. [Bug 2038912] Re: Upgrade of libapache2-mod-php8.1 does not reload apache2
After discussing this within the server team, we decided to let this update sit in noble for a while, so we can understand its impact on users before we keep pushing for the SRUs here. The reason for that is that most other packages will not restart apache2 (nor other services) after an upgrade (we do understand the benefits of the restart in case of security updates though). FWIW, needrestart does warn/query for the restart need for the upgrade path being addressed here. [Bug 2058766] Re: .NET 8 fails to build with clang 18
We will temporarily revert to glibc-17 and fix the issue with future upstream releases. Rationale: We want to Bootstrap .NET for S390X before 24.04 GA, but the 24.04 Beta and Release Candidate dates are getting closer and Archive Admins get progressively busier. [Bug 2052652] Re: [MIR] gnome-snapshot
I reviewed gnome-snapshot 45.2+vendored-0ubuntu2 as checked into noble. This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. Due to time constraints, this report only took into account the package itself, and not its significant number (244) of vendored libraries. Many of those should be removed as mentioned in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/snapshot/-/issues/137. However, none of the used ones are non-standard. For now, the following audit is only going to report findings in the source code of the Rust package gnome-snapshot. gnome-snapshot is a camera application designed for GNOME environments, offering straightforward functionality for capturing photos and videos across various devices. It is a new package, and it serves as an updated replacement for older GNOME camera apps. - CVE History - None, package is new - Build-Depends - Many vendored libraries, some of them not needed (eg: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/snapshot/-/issues/137) - pre/post inst/rm scripts - None - init scripts - None - systemd units - None - dbus services - None - setuid binaries - None - binaries in PATH - None - sudo fragments - None - polkit files - None - udev rules - None - unit tests / autopkgtests - Unit tests ran during build - Absence of autopkgtests, already a recomended TODO by the MIR team - cron jobs - None - Build logs - No warnings / errors during build - Processes spawned - Does not interact with user input, thus not susceptible to any command injection attacks or unsafe arguments - Memory management - Mostly using Rust's memory safe features - "unsafe" stanzas look non-problematic - File IO - Nature of the package requires I/O interaction with local storage - Unsafe processing of user-owned files, already-existing in the system by calling open_with_system() in gallery.js, which does not filter file types, as mentioned in a TODO by the developers in line 301, and can result in the processing of untrusted files. However, given the threat model (user-owned files and user-owned machine), this is not concerning as even with filtering, the user could rename the files and process them - Logging - Safe, does not include user input - Environment variable usage - Can not be abused - Use of privileged functions - Only used for installing dependecies - Use of cryptography / random number sources etc - None, not needed due to the nature of the package - Use of temp files - None - Use of networking - None, only inter-process communication to respond to GUI events - Use of WebKit - None - Use of PolicyKit - None - Any significant cppcheck results - None - Any significant Coverity results - None - Any significant shellcheck results - None - Any significant bandit results - None - Any significant govulncheck results - None - Any significant Semgrep results - None Security team ACK for promoting gnome-snapshot to main. Overall, the package is well-written, and developed in a memory-safe language, something that makes us believe that it will be less susceptible to vulnerabilities in the future. Moreover, it is maintained by GNOME, leading us to trust that the code will be well-maintained and monitored for vulnerabilities in the future. When it comes to the code itself, along with the above-mentioned issue of processing local files without filtering, it contains many non-security related TODOs by the developers, which is due to the young age of the package. We believe and suggest that those will be resolved in the near future. ** Changed in: gnome-snapshot (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-snapshot (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Security Team (ubuntu-security) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2052652 Title: [MIR] gnome-snapshot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-snapshot/+bug/2052652/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
