I hope this can be of help to somebody. I had the same problem in my
ubuntu edgy beta amd64. What I have done is to get the static i386
binary tarball from www.partimage.org, remove the old partimage binary
from /usr/sbin and then put the i386 binary there. Until now it works
pefectly.

I finally solved the problem in my Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 by doing a
fresh reinstall. My previous installation had been upgraded from the
previous version (following the official procedure). Seems that the the
problem was caused by the upgrading, as after reinstalling the OS it's
fixed...

It was working flawesly in this same version of ubuntu Hardy Heron. After some
rutinary updates automouting for usb memory sticks and mp3 players have stopped
working. If I go to the computer:/// in nautilus (using gnome here) and click
on the usb icon an error message is

- Tried the procedures related in the link supplied by Ara.

break because linux_raid_member devices get opened directly as luks instead of

My PC is a Fujitsu-Siemens Stylistic ST5022D tablet, with i855gm
graphics, which (since Ubuntu 10.04) does not feature anymore xv
acceleration.
.xsession-errors says something like:

I restored the panel doing only:

After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, the linux-image-2.6.25-2-386 package
was installed by default.
This kernel doesn't have a linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.25-2-386 package,
therefore some devices don't work. For example I have to choose
2.6.24.19 in grub to have sound.

in a Toshiba laptop. (?)
BTW, I have a Tecra M2 and none of my Fn keys work. This is an upgrade
from Hardy - where all my Fn keys used to work just fine.

problem in Hardy doesn't appear after resuming from suspend (I think it

I have the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 9400.
After a few tests I've seen the following:
- Normally the backlight remains on, even with the lid closed.
- If I kill gnome-power-manager the backlight goes off on lid close.
- If I kill acpid (gpm is on) the light goes off as well.

My bug report has been marked as a duplicate of this one.
I believe we are experiencing the same problem, but I'm not sure if the final
state of the system after the error is the same.
In my case, I'm talking about an upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy.

I believe this should be worked on. This is a serious thing for lots of
people. Just because of such problems people hesitate to switch to
opensource software. Groupware and Synchronization is essential for

It is now fixed.
It should be an incompatibility with any of the tetex packages because
I have downgraded to prosper_1.00.4+cvs.2004.03.29-2 and it also works
now.

I got in Add/Remove using 'xfce4 app finder'. I still cannot get in by
clicking on Add/Remove under Applications, but it no longer matters
since I have a way now ofgetting in.
