[Bug 1803805] Re: grub-pc fails to install on the last of multiple devices
Thank you for reporting this, Richard! I ran into this exact same error while upgrading to grub-pc (2.02+dfsg1-12ubuntu2.1) on Ubuntu 19.04. After given choices of "/dev/sda", "/dev/sda5" and "/dev/sdb", I selected /dev/sda and /dev/sda5 on the "GRUB Install devices" page, leaving "/dev/sdb" unchecked. Then this error appears: Installing for i386-pc platform. grub-install: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /,. Check your device.map and, running "ps auxwww | grep grub" shows this: grub-install --target=i386-pc --force --no-floppy /, just as what you have observed! Thank you for providing the fix too! Hi Simon! > Does this need to be a Feature Freeze Exception? Good question! It might need it, or might not; it is a bit of a borderline case. I presume the changes from v3.2.9 to v3.2.17 contain mostly bugfixes, as new features are being added to the new v3.3.x branch. > Could you please give more details as to what the new upstream release contains? Most certainly! From https://github.com/coreos/etcd/blob/master/CHANGELOG-3.2.md: ## [v3.2.17](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/releases/tag/v3.2.17) (2018-03-08) See [code changes](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/compare/v3.2.16...v3.2.17) and [v3.2 upgrade guide](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/blob/master/Documentation/upgrades/upgrade_3_2.md) for any breaking changes. ### Fixed: v2 - Fix [v2 proxy leaky HTTP requests](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9336). ### Fixed: v3 - Fix [server panic on invalid Election Proclaim/Resign HTTP(S) requests](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9379). - Previously, wrong-formatted HTTP requests to Election API could trigger panic in etcd server. - e.g. `curl -L http://localhost:2379/v3/election/proclaim -X POST -d '{"value":""}'`, `curl -L http://localhost:2379/v3/election/resign -X POST -d '{"value":""}'`. - Prevent [overflow by large `TTL` values for `Lease` `Grant`](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9399). - `TTL` parameter to `Grant` request is unit of second. - Leases with too large `TTL` values exceeding `math.MaxInt64` [expire in unexpected ways](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/issues/9374). - Server now returns `rpctypes.ErrLeaseTTLTooLarge` to client, when the requested `TTL` is larger than *9,000,000,000 seconds* (which is >285 years). - Again, etcd `Lease` is meant for short-periodic keepalives or sessions, in the range of seconds or minutes. Not for hours or days! - Enable etcd server [`raft.Config.CheckQuorum` when starting with `ForceNewCluster`](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9347). ### Go - Compile with [*Go 1.8.7*](https://golang.org/doc/devel/release.html#go1.8). ## [v3.2.16](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/releases/tag/v3.2.16) (2018-02-12) See [code changes](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/compare/v3.2.15...v3.2.16) and [v3.2 upgrade guide](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/blob/master/Documentation/upgrades/upgrade_3_2.md) for any breaking changes. ### Fixed: v3 - Fix [`mvcc` "unsynced" watcher restore operation](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9297). - "unsynced" watcher is watcher that needs to be in sync with events that have happened. - That is, "unsynced" watcher is the slow watcher that was requested on old revision. - "unsynced" watcher restore operation was not correctly populating its underlying watcher group. - Which possibly causes [missing events from "unsynced" watchers](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/issues/9086). ### Go - Compile with [*Go 1.8.5*](https://golang.org/doc/devel/release.html#go1.8). ## [v3.2.15](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/releases/tag/v3.2.15) (2018-01-22) See [code changes](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/compare/v3.2.14...v3.2.15) and [v3.2 upgrade guide](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/blob/master/Documentation/upgrades/upgrade_3_2.md) for any breaking changes. ### Fixed: v3 - Prevent [server panic from member update/add](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9174) with [wrong scheme URLs](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/issues/9173). - Log [user context cancel errors on stream APIs in debug level with TLS](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9178). ### Go - Compile with [*Go 1.8.5*](https://golang.org/doc/devel/release.html#go1.8). ## [v3.2.14](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/releases/tag/v3.2.14) (2018-01-11) See [code changes](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/compare/v3.2.13...v3.2.14) and [v3.2 upgrade guide](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/blob/master/Documentation/upgrades/upgrade_3_2.md) for any breaking changes. ### Improved - Log [user context cancel errors on stream APIs in debug level](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9105). ### Fixed: v3 - Fix [`mvcc/backend.defragdb` nil-pointer dereference on create bucket failure](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9119). ### Go - Compile with [*Go 1.8.5*](https://golang.org/doc/devel/release.html#go1.8). ## [v3.2.13](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/releases/tag/v3.2.13) (2018-01-02) See [code changes](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/compare/v3.2.12...v3.2.13) and [v3.2 upgrade guide](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/blob/master/Documentation/upgrades/upgrade_3_2.md) for any breaking changes. ### Fixed: v3 - Remove [verbose error messages on stream cancel and gRPC info-level logs](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/9080) in server-side. - Fix [gRPC server panic on `GracefulStop` TLS-enabled server](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/pull/8987). ### Go - Compile with [*Go 1.8.5*](https://golang.org/doc/devel/release.html#go1.8). ## [v3.2.12](https://github.com/coreos/etcd/releases/tag/v3.2.12) (2017-12-20) See [code

[Bug 1753180] Re: FFe: Sync hugo 0.37-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
I changed my mind about waiting for fsnotify/pflag/prose after receiving two automated emails from the Ubuntu Release Team reminding me that both golang-github-chaseadamsio-goorgeous 2.0.0+git20171126.dcf1ef8-2 and hugo 0.37-2 (and also golang-blackfriday 1.5.1-1 which got in before the Feature Freeze / Debian Import Freeze) are stuck in bionic-proposed. [Bug 1754468] [NEW] Sync golang-github-jdkato-prose 1.1.0+git20171031.e27abfd-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
Public bug reported: Please sync golang-github-jdkato-prose 1.1.0+git20171031.e27abfd-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) As it turns out, upstream hugo author has specified golang-github-jdkato-prose "1.1.0" in Gopkg.toml since 2017-10-21 for hugo 0.31, but I had been somewhat behind missing that versioned dependency. especially now hugo 0.37.1 is out (Mar 2018), so I've decided to catch up to avoid old bugs from popping up. Upstream changes between 0.0~git20170806.0.a678fc7-1 and 1.1.0+git20171031.e27abfd-2 are almost entirely bugfixes and cleanups as can be seen in the 17 commits here: https://github.com/jdkato/prose/compare/a678fc7...e27abfd with the sole exception being the commits on 2017-10-03 where the "transform" package was extended for Camel case, etc. Changelog entries since current bionic version 0.0~git20170806.0.a678fc7-1: golang-github-jdkato-prose (1.1.0+git20171031.e27abfd-2) unstable; urgency=medium * Remove dependency on golang-github-jdkato-syllables-dev which was no longer used in summarize/syllables_test.go since v1.0.0. -- Anthony Fok <f...@debian.org> Thu, 08 Mar 2018 03:10:42 -0700 golang-github-jdkato-prose (1.1.0+git20171031.e27abfd-1) unstable; urgency=medium * New upstream version * Apply "cme fix dpkg" to debian/control, bumping Standards-Version to 4.1.3, setting Priority to optional, and adding Testsuite: autopkgtest-pkg-go, etc. * Use debhelper (>= 11) -- Anthony Fok <f...@debian.org> Wed, 07 Mar 2018 20:01:41 -0700 Many thanks! ** Affects: golang-github-jdkato-prose (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: upgrade-software-version -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754468 Title: Sync golang-github-jdkato-prose 1.1.0+git20171031.e27abfd-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-github-jdkato-prose/+bug/1754468/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1754433] Re: Sync golang-github-spf13-pflag 1.0.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
Again, for completeness: On closer look, there _is_ an upstream change, in ".gitignore", which has been in the upstream source since January 2017, but got removed by an older version of dh-make-golang by something like --exclude-vcs after the "git clone" run. The new 1.0.0-1 uses pristine .tar.gz tarball and have kept .gitignore intact, just as the latest dh-make-golang would do. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754433 Title: Sync golang-github-spf13-pflag 1.0.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-github-spf13-pflag/+bug/1754433/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

> The only part of this that comes close to requiring an FFe > is the removal of the transitional packages Thank you for the clarification! I am very new to the Ubuntu freeze/release process, and mistakenly thought every sync after a Feature Freeze (March 1st) required filing a FFe. I have just started using "requestsync" like an hour ago and > Would you be ok with me uploading an 1ubuntu1 that still has those? Yes, definitely! Sorry for causing you extra work! I wasn't think far ahead enough to check for reverse dependencies in Ubuntu before removing those transitional packages in Debian golang-fsnotify (1.4.7-1). Thank you so much, Michael! P.S. [Bug 1572566] Re: Frescobaldi missing dependency on python3-pypm | libportmidi0 | python3-pygame
Hello Emmanuel, Thank you very much for reporting this bug, and for providing an accurate solution to the problem. I currently maintain the "frescobaldi" package for Debian, which gets imported into Ubuntu for every 6 months or so. With your posted solution, I finally realized my carelessness when I made the switch from Python 2 to Python 3 for Frescobaldi 2.18.1+ds1-1 in September 2015, where I removed the Python-2-only "python-pypm" from the dependency list, and failed to add back "libportmidi0". Sorry for causing you the trouble! By the way, python3-pygame, which includes pypm the PortMidi binding for Python, has landed in Debian "experimental". It is also available or from the upstream PyGame repository at https://bitbucket.org/pygame/pygame/src as src/pypm.pyx and src/pypm.c (compiled with Cython instead of Pyrex), so perhaps other developers or I will eventually use that work to make python3-pypm available. For the time being, "libportmidi0" alone would do. The fix will go into frescobaldi_3.0.0-1 or one of its pre-releases. Thanks again for reporting this issue! Cheers, Anthony P.S. I am not sure if I would have the time to backport the fix to frescobaldi 2.18.x in Ubuntu 16.04... [Bug 1472834] Re: logrotate does not use .xz extension for xz-compressed logs
If I am reading the logrotate 3.8.7 source code correctly, there is no mapping table between compresscmd and compressext, and a search for "xz", "bz" and "lzma" returns no result either. Indeed, the only compression program that logrotate 3.8.7 knows about is gzip, and if compressext isn't defined in the config files, the default COMPRESS_EXT ".gz" is used instead. There is currently no "smart logic" to set the correct compressext automatically from compresscmd. Perhaps this bug is best reported at logrotate's new home on GitHub at https://github.com/logrotate/logrotate. Hello Kevin, Thank you very much for sending your bug report! The ttf-wqy-microhei package has undergone some changes since you first reported the bug in May 2010. In particular, the maintainer scripts which caused the post-installation script returned error exit status 2 that you saw was removed in April 2012 for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: ttf-wqy-microhei (0.2.0-beta-1ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low * Drop recommends on x-ttcidfont-conf, which is obsolete. Closes: #660060. * Drop obsolete maintainer scripts; fontconfig uses triggers. -- Steve Langasek steve.langa...@ubuntu.com Mon, 16 Apr 2012 11:16:07 -0700 So I believe that this bug should have been fixed. :-) ** Changed in: ttf-wqy-microhei (Ubuntu) Assignee: Anthony Fok (foka) = (unassigned) ** Changed in: ttf-wqy-microhei (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580486 Title: package ttf-wqy-microhei 0.2.0-beta-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-wqy-microhei/+bug/580486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1243090] [NEW] Dist Upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 stuck during flashplugin-installer
Public bug reported: When I was upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04 (raring) to Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy), the installation was stuck for several hours here: flashplugin-installer: downloading http://archive.canonical.com/pool/partner/a/adobe-flashplugin/adobe- flashplugin_11.2.202.310.orig.tar.gz Eventually, due to a system reboot (caused by baby pounding on the keyboard), I had to recover from the half-finished upgrade process manually. It might be an isolated incident, but I am not alone, as seen by this user's experience here: 13.04 to 13.10 upgrade stalled at flashplugin-installer, posted 2013-10-19: http://askubuntu.com/questions/361591/13-04-to-13-10-upgrade-stalled-at-flashplugin-installer After I got my system back in order (e.g. sudo dpkg --configure -a; purging obsolete/unneeded packages; removing ~/.config/gtk-3.0 to get the correct set of system tray icons; adding input methods, etc.), I tried sudo apt-get --reinstall install flashplugin-installer again: Processing triggers for update-notifier-common ... flashplugin-installer: downloading http://archive.canonical.com/pool/partner/a/adobe-flashplugin/adobe-flashplugin_11.2.202.310.orig.tar.gz And it got stuck again, with or without proxy. I originally suspected that it may have something to do with GFW of China, but then a normal wget http://archive.canonical.com/pool/partner/a/adobe-flashplugin/adobe- flashplugin_11.2.202.310.orig.tar.gz, albeit somewhat slow, fetched the file just fine, both with direct connection and with proxy. Digging deeper, it dawned on me that Ubuntu's flashplugin-installer differs from Debian's flashplugin-nonfree, mainly, the Ubuntu-specific update-notifier and its package-data-downloader Python script is used instead of wget for downloading external package data. So, I finally found /usr/share/package-data-downloads/flashplugin-installer, and in /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader, these relevant lines: print %s: downloading %s % (relfile, files[i]) dest_file = urllib.urlretrieve(files[i])[0] output = subprocess.check_output([sha256sum, dest_file]) Failed to discover the location of the tempfile that urllib.urlretrieve() writes to, I fell asleep. Today, I decided to file this bug report before my interests die down and my memory fails me. :-) As I was typing this, I tried to install flashplugin-installer again, and I discovered that urllib.urlretrieve() writes to /tmp/tmpXX.gz (e.g. /tmp/tmpXbszB4.gz) by default, and was able to see the file growing in size. True to Murphy's Law, despite failing to install flashplugin-installer for two days, now I see it installs successfully, as I am finishing this bug report! :-p Nevertheless, I think this bug is worth looking into and taking care of. There are at least two such confirmed incidents, and it is such a downer when the whole distribution upgrade process got stuck by something as innocuous as the Adobe Flash Plugin. :-p A few points to look at: 1. Are Python's urllib.urlretrieve() and friends able to provide a download progress bar of some sort so that the end-user isn't stuck wondering whether the download stalled, or just that it is slow? 2. From my cable TV 6 Mbps Internet connection in Beijing, depending on the time of the day, the download speed http://archive.canonical.com/pool/partner/a/adobe-flashplugin/adobe- flashplugin_11.2.202.310.orig.tar.gz may get as low as 20KB/s or even 10KB/s, which translates to 10 to 20 minutes of download for this 13MB tarball. Even without connection timeout or whatnot, the end-user cannot help but wonder what is happening. Debian's older flashplugin- nonfree package with wget's progress bar has the definite advantage here. 3. Does urllib.urlretrieve() and the rest of /usr/lib/update-notifier /package-data-downloader handle all kinds of exceptions like network error, DNS timeout, download interruption, etc. gracefully? Or are there some corner cases where stalling would indeed happen? Many thanks for looking into this! [Bug 1243119] [NEW] php-wikidiff2: Incorrect PHP short open tag used in wikidiff2.php
Public bug reported: /etc/mediawiki-extensions/extensions-available/wikidiff2.php uses the deprecated short open tag ?, whereas all other extensions use the recommended full open tag ?php. This may not have been a problem in the past, but the latest PHP 5.5.3 packages in Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy) (and Debian) now have short_open_tag = Off as the default in the system-wide php.ini files. So, visitors to a local MediaWiki installation would see: 'Wikidiff2', 'version' = '', 'author' = 'Tim Starling', 'description' = 'external diff engine for MediaWiki', 'url' = 'https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Wikidiff2' ); $wgExternalDiffEngine = 'wikidiff2'; plastered across the top of every MediaWiki page. This issue was reported as Debian Bug#716995 and Bug#723622 in July and September 2013 respectively. [Bug 1242546] [NEW] mediawiki default apache config causes AH01630: client denied by server configuration with Apache 2.4 in Saucy
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy) has switched to Apache 2.4, which introduces a new syntax for access permission. However, /etc/mediawiki/apache.conf in the current mediawiki (1:1.19.8+dfsg-1) in saucy does not yet cater to the new syntax, causing a 403: Forbidden error in the end-user's browser, and AH01630: client denied by server configuration in /var/log/apache2/error.log. [Bug 519535] Re: Shift + AltGr no longer works as the Compose key
Testing on Ubuntu 12.10, and with hints from an answer to solve a similar problem in KDE[1], it seems that the easiest way to get Shift+AltGr to work as the Compose key is to: Go into Keyboard Layout Option, expand Key to choose 3rd level, and select Right Alt, Shift+Right Alt key is Multi_Key After that, everything works correctly for me: Shift+AltGr as compose key AltGr chooses 3rd level AltGr+Shift chooses 4th level Hope this works for others too! Perhaps the Wiki page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ComposeKey could be updated to be more explicit. I do wonder though: did some Xorg default changed in an Lucid update? Footnote: [1] http://superuser.com/questions/200724/xorg-compose-key-without-losing-valuable-key-bypass-mode You do not have to edit the configuration file. That setting is located in KDE 4.8.4 under “Keyboard” → “Advanced” → “Key for changing into the third keyboard level” → “Right Alt key, Shift + right Alt key is Multi key”. That is why it survives an update via the GUI. I then tried to fix the problem manually by using sudo apt-get -f install, and saw the following: Setting up wpasupplicant (0.7.3-6ubuntu1) ... mv: `/lib/init/rw/sendsigs.omit.d/wpasupplicant.wpa_supplicant.wlan0.pid' and `/run/sendsigs.omit.d/wpasupplicant.wpa_supplicant.wlan0.pid' are the same file dpkg: error processing wpasupplicant (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of network-manager: network-manager depends on wpasupplicant (= 0.7.3-1); however: Package wpasupplicant is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing network-manager (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of network-manager-gnome: network-manager-gnome depends on network-manager (= 0.8.998); however: Package network-manager is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing network-manager-gnome (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of ubuntu-desktop: ubuntu-desktop depends on wpasupplicant; however: Package wpasupplicant is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing ubuntu-desktop (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured No apport report written because the error message indicates its a followup error from a previous failure. [Bug 504075] Re: package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.0 failed to install/upgrade: Error parsing proxy UR L wpad://: Unsupported scheme «wpad»
It turns out that this bug is a manifestation of a bug in libsoup- gnome2.4-1: Bug: #433827 Regression: Automatic proxy configuration + gnome- terminal now breaks apt-get, curl, wget... in libsoup/soup-proxy-resolver-gnome.c: } else if (proxy_mode == SOUP_PROXY_RESOLVER_GNOME_MODE_AUTO) { char *autoconfig_url; autoconfig_url = gconf_client_get_string ( gconf_client, SOUP_GCONF_PROXY_AUTOCONFIG_URL, NULL); if (autoconfig_url !strncmp (autoconfig_url, http, 4)) http_proxy = g_strconcat (pac+, autoconfig_url, NULL); else http_proxy = g_strdup (wpad://); g_free (autoconfig_url); So, in Gnome network proxy settings, if we set the automatic proxy URL to http://wpad.example.org/wpad.dat, we get http_proxy=pac+http://wpad.example.org/wpad.dat . Otherwise, if we set the automatic proxy URL to e.g. file:///etc/proxy.pac, we get http_proxy=wpad:// . This bug has been reported to the upstream author: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603285 , though I think a bit of convincing is necessary, as setting the http_proxy= to these pac+http:// or wpad:// stuff is just *wrong* IMHO, especially because it breaks 90% of the existing programs out there. ** Changed in: libsoup2.4 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.0 failed to install/upgrade: Error parsing proxy URL wpad://: Unsupported scheme «wpad» https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The error message Error parsing proxy URL wpad://: Unsupported scheme `wpad'. comes from Wget when the environment variable http_proxy is set to wpad:// . As of Wget 1.12, Anyone can reproduce the problem as follows: $ env LANG=C http_proxy=wpad:// wget http://example.org/ Error parsing proxy URL wpad://: Unsupported scheme `wpad'. I don't know where this comes from, except that it has something to do with the Gnome network proxy settings. It would be great if someone could shed some light on this puzzle. :-) -- package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.0 failed to install/upgrade: Error parsing proxy URL wpad://: Unsupported scheme «wpad» https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
