I got the same error.
First time after installation I opened gimp as root ('sudo gimp'). So it's
initial configuration is set for root. Now 'sudo gimp' works perfectly. I don't
know how to solve this..

installed on dell inspiron 5520 which has same BCM43142 WIFI adapter. I'm
having the same problem with the latest version of the package installed on
ubuntun 15.10.
Could you dump the output of pactl list when the output is white noise
and when it is proper?

I checked the configurations again. I find that I was entering Subnet
field incorrectly.
I modified the settings then I was able to move further. We can close this bug.
