I disabled compiz, only using DRI.

just downloaded Ubuntu alpha4 and booted the live CD on my Thinkpad R31
with my Intel Corporation 82830 CGC (i830M) - see above. That showed a
running xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.2.0+git20080107-1ubuntu2
installed (like Collin telled us above).
Can confirm that Xorg works fine now.

I am on an Thinkpad R31 and no sound after hibernation / resume. See attached
lspci -vv. Im running the latest updates of today and kernel generic 2.6.24-18
and module snd-intel8x0.
The solution with restarting alsa-utils or alsa force-reload works,
but only __after__ I logged into

finally removed the lyx binary package, downloaded the latest 1.5.5
sources from http://www.lyx.org and installed the self-compiled
binaries. This works for my system, without any changes to Qt4, etc.

sudo apt-get remove --purge gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
helped me.

As of update of today evening (ubuntu beta)
- xserver-xorg-video-int 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu1
- kernel 2.6.31-13-generic
- i830M Chipset (Thinkpad R31)
and using an empty xorg.conf the system boots now without problems into
the graphical user interface.
Using i915.modset=0 does not deliver kernel
No change in Karmic Beta.

Like rfurgy (#7) i have the same problems after installing anjuta ide
and glade yesterday.
All applications using gstreamer (rhythmbox, exaile, totem, ...) are not
able to start any more and abort with above error message
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Element' and
I get the same type of error when starting all kind of gstreamer
applications: RuntimeError: can't initialize module gst: Error re-
scanning registry , child terminated by signal
- gstreamer -rpopertiers
- exaile
- rhythmbox
- totem

since the thread started with an Thinkpad R31 with i830M graphics
chipset and I am fiddeling arround with this issue for a long time and
found only ONE stable solution. So I just like to add my xorg.conf for
