[Bug 1933771] Re: Bluetooth headset random disconnects AX200

2021-10-02 Thread Cruz Fernandez
I've copied latest linux-firmware (a few days ago 20210919) and my setup
has improved. I believe more patches on latest one have reduced this
problem. I'll post more on the week when I confirm more.

Similar to what @iestynapmwg said, while upgrading from Ubuntu 20.10 to

[Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while

2020-06-06 Thread Cruz Fernandez
On Ubuntu 20.04 the problem is still happening pretty similar to the one
reported by the OP. I've found a new way to fix it though.

Steps to reproduce:
1. turn off machine.
2. leave a headphone plugged in
3. turn on machine (caveat: if your laptop is suspended from here the bug won't
be produced)
4. unplug headphone
5. plug headphone -> YOU WON'T HEAR A THING

To fix it I do:
I open Settings -> Sound and there:
1. change the Input Device to internal microphone (not the headphone) (you
should start hearing after this step!!!)
2. Change the Input Device to the headphone

(this fix is faster than suspending and bringing it back up).

Another fix, is to always unplug the headphones when turning off the
laptop.

[Bug 1873384] Re: Headphone has no sound out

2020-04-27 Thread Cruz Fernandez
On Ubuntu 20.04 I experience similar issue as diagnosed by @prayerholmes
. Selecting on the pop-up headset breaks the audio (but the microphone
works!). After changing on settings->audio the input from `headset
microphone - built-in audio` to `Internal microphone - built-in audio`
and then back to `headset microphone - built-in audio` it works ok.

My computer is a Dell XPS 9550.

I didn't need to patch the file /usr/share/initramfs-

adding more themes I see the related file
`/usr/share/plymouth/themes/spinner/spinner.plymouth` on the script

[Bug 1709781] Re: Screenshots do not work in Wayland session

2017-11-08 Thread Cruz Fernandez
@seb128 I've made several tests here:

Full screen:
Calling "gnome-screenshot -c" doesn't put anything on the clipboard, it reports
"There is no image data in the clipboard to paste". When calling via UI, a full
screen and sending to clipboard, pasting into GIMP, it just pastes the top part
of the screen (kind of out-of-buffer-memory problem maybe?)

Part of screen:
When selecting a small sector of the screen with "shift + printscreen" button,
it's not sent to the clipboard. When using the gnome-screenshot UI, a sector of
screen can be sent to the clipboard.
With "gnome-screenshot -a -c", from GIMP it reports "There is no image data in
the clipboard to paste".

Same version as reported by @egon-rath

[Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6

2017-06-19 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Just expanding a little bit more my last comment, on Ubuntu 17.04, using
the 'sudo openconnect xxx' command is adding to the file
/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf file the DNS IP addresses as global ones.
Just also added them on the 'icon' version and it fixed it too. In
Ubuntu 17.04 it's using by default the systemd-resolved service (instead
of the reported one dnsmasq).

Maybe we should report a different bug for Ubuntu 17.04 as the packages
interaction look to be other ones?

[Bug 1673796] Re: Ubuntu 16.10, Dell XPS 15 9550, DNS problem after suspend/resume

2017-03-18 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Just tried kernel 4.11.0-041100rc2-generic one. Looks like that the bug
is happening (had some issues compiling the DKMS nvidia-357 and
virtualbox, but still could boot up that kernel).

It started happening after upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10. Kernels
affected are: 4.8.0-42 and 4.8.0-41 AFAIK.

I'll install latest kernel probably tomorrow if possible and come back
to you @jsalisbury

Thanks for the fast response!

[Bug 1673796] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10, Dell XPS 15 9550, DNS problem after suspend/resume

2017-03-17 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Public bug reported:

After suspend/resume the wifi network comes back, but the DNS doesn't
work. I've tried to ping a known IP and it works ok though.

My normal solution is to restart the network totally (haven't found a
smaller way to fix the skewed DNS server locally):

sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

Not sure if I should report this on other package related to the DNS
systemd resolve?

[Bug 1594614] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 - wrong icon after first resume

2016-09-15 Thread Cruz Fernandez
@penalvch , I've tested again on kernel 4.8-rc6, and from suspend button
and closing lid, the system is not suspending. It only blocks the
screen, and after unblocking the screen, I cannot open a new terminal,
or access internet, or shutdown the system neither.

When suspending with command 'sudo pm-suspend' it can suspend and also
the wifi-icon is shown correctly!

I've tested 4.8-rc5 and the icon is still showing after first
suspend/resume. After second suspend/resume the icon is shown correctly.

On latest kernel 4.4.0-36 the situation looks similar.

[Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while

2016-08-28 Thread Cruz Fernandez
When upgrading the kernel I've experienced a similar bug (I'm using
stock-kernel). My headphones don't output any sound. It's fixed kind-of-
permanently (until next upgrade) if I run similar commands to #7 and
restart.

I take out the headphones then run:

rm -rf ~/.config/pulse/ && pulseaudio -k && sudo alsa force-reload

Then I reboot manually

[Bug 1589889] Re: Bluetooth search gets nothing on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-07-08 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Updated firmware with latest one (version 481).

Same as last one, decompress it, and ensure the permissions are correct
on:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 54734 may 19 21:22 /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM-
0a5c-6410.hcd

When loaded you should see something this on 'dmesg' like:

[ 6828.577574] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM (001.001.005) build 0481

After more digging on how this works, looks like several broadcom chips
have similar problems to load this type of files (bug #1129865, bug
#1065400). According to a question in askubuntu (also best place of how
the procedure to produce this .hcd files)
http://askubuntu.com/questions/632336/bluetooth-broadcom-43142-isnt-
working-on-ubuntu , there are some legal problems that don't allow this
firmware files to be added to the Ubuntu installation

Thanks a lot to @bertusrex on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2317843=13514092#post13514092
for getting into windows and getting us the firmware file.

[Bug 1598504] [NEW] [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266, Speaker, Internal] Cannot select internal speakers with headphone connected

2016-07-02 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Public bug reported:

When the headphone is connected, the System Settings->Sound shows two
outputs "Headphones" and "Speakers. Built-in Audio". Selecting
"Speakers. Built-in Audio" just mutes all sound. When disconnecting the
headphones, everything works fine though.

A possible solution could be to disallow that option when headphones are
connected.

I've tried to install "oem-audio-hda-daily-
dkms_0.201607020504-ubuntu16.04.1_all.deb" with same results.

[Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while

2016-07-01 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Regarding @shinyblue , on my configuration (lightdm/unity), sounds seems
to work in all cases (new kernel 4.4.0-28-generic).

Only caveat I want to mention is that System Settings->Sound->Output
shows two options with headphone connected, and selecting "Speakers.
Built-in Audio" just mutes and produces no sound.

I'm tempted to report that last caveat in a new bug, but I'm not sure if
it was one of the original problems reported by @ivan.koptiev and he
didn't realize about this current limitation.

[Bug 1589886] Re: Wireless hotkey fails on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-29 Thread Cruz Fernandez
Pressing wireless hotkey (Fn + PrtScr) with kernel 4.4.0-29-generic (the
proposed kernel) now works! (turns on and off Bluetooth and WiFi)

In dmesg I've seen the old warning still (between some lines for starting-up
and down the network and bluetooth),
[ +0,034110] dell_wmi: Unknown key 153 pressed

I suppose that's just a 'nitpick'.

I'm not sure if @kamalmostafa intended me to change the tag from
'verification-needed-xenial' to 'verification-done-xenial' though.

This seems fixed for latest kernel 4.4.0-28-generic. (I had to clean up my
pulseaudio with
'pulseaudio -k && rm -rf ~/.pulse && rm -rf ~/.config/pulse' ), and both were
fixed (startup with jack connected and plugging in headphone)

You are right that the bug #1574347 is closed and already applied on my
system.

I'll trust you that is good the kernel developers confirm this one but
what about the spin-off bug #1589401 and also the upstream gnome-
bugzilla https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=767317 ?

I've confirmed with this command that network-manager has loaded the
correct status (but showing wrong icon):

2016-06-26 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After more digging, it might have been a mistake to contact the kernel
drivers, as it seems there's a bug #1574347 on the network-manager
component that might be producing this same error.

Maybe we should rollback to avoid having kernel maintainers loose time?
I'll move this issue to network-manager component in best case.

The kernel 4.4.0-27-generic is fixing on my Dell XPS 15 9550 the

back after fresh-boot and from suspend also).

With kernel 4.4.0-24-generic I still have it as an option to boot, the
problem still is reproduced (just to test back the error)

[Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while

2016-06-24 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After running the commands mentioned on #7 the problem seems to be
fixed! (I'm using kernel 4.4.0-27-generic, Ubuntu Unity 16.04) . Or
maybe an update fixed this problem?

On my latest updated Ubuntu 16.04 with my Dell XPS 15 9550, the problem
is just aesthetical (the wrong icon is showing). Maybe we should close
this issue with latest kernel? (and focus just on the wrong icon?)

[Bug 1589886] Re: Wireless hotkey fails on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-16 Thread Cruz Fernandez
I've found the kernel code that is not processing this key-event.
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/platform/x86/dell-
wmi.c#L218

Is there any way that the event is NOT ignored by that code in the case
of the Dell XPS 15 9550? (It was initially designed for Dell XPS 13
9350, where the intel-wifi-driver handles the hotkey event)

I'll try the kernel mentioned by @jsalisbury

[Bug 1589889] Re: Bluetooth search gets nothing on Dell XPS 15 9550

2016-06-15 Thread Cruz Fernandez
After even more digging, looks like the problem is with a parameter that
I suspect the tlp package (when using the computer without AC, on
battery-saving mode) and the command powertop --autotune are modifying:

Autosuspend for USB device BCM2045A0 [Broadcom Corp]

I've seen last message o my machine, but others have reported:

Autosuspend for USB device BCM920703 Bluetooth 4.1 [Broadcom Corp]

I think adding the file /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM-0a5c-6410.hcd fixes the
problem, but there might be other solutions (like not-installing tlp
package yet!!)

[Bug 1091464] Re: Unable to chainload Windows 8 and 10 with Secure Boot enabled

I could not reproduce on a new machine this bug (though this

Can it be that latest Ubuntu 16.04 has this problem fixed? Or maybe the
key-chain is fixed for some hardware and some other doesn't?
