I upgraded from 8.04 LTS to 8.10 last night, 10/30/2008. The Firefox
icon STAYED this time and did not change to the odd, jagged edged

It does appear to have been an exclusively RAM problem. I added 256MB of
RAM to the same laptop to bring it up to 512MB. NOW when I run the
LiveCD the Panel and Task bars DO appear. I did nothing different.

problem with the Nvidia nouveau packages; apparently, switching to
