[Bug 1975367] [NEW] Weird colours after launching game

2022-05-21 Thread David JM Emmett
Public bug reported:

After updating to the latest kernel and drivers today, I rebooted,
launched Perfect Heist 2 from Steam and the colours for my entire
desktop went quite weird. I exited the game and the colour issues
remained the same. Whilst rebooting even the console mode graphics had
odd artefacts in them.

Relevant lines from dmesg:

[Bug 1971200] [NEW] Machine refuses to shutdown after wheel unplugged

2022-05-02 Thread David JM Emmett
Public bug reported:

After using my Logitech G920 whilst playing a game, or even having
Oversteer[0] open, if I disconnect the wheel whilst one of the processes
are still running, this will cause a kernel trace in dmesg: "kernfs: can
not remove 'range', no directory" and then the machine will not shutdown
unless forced using REISUO (or a hard power-off).

Relevant portion of dmesg output:

[Bug 1746806] Re: sssd appears to crash AWS c5 and m5 instances, cause 100% CPU

2018-03-13 Thread David JM Emmett
This issue is not limited to EC2. I'm running artful on a Dell Optiplex
5040 with an i5-6500 CPU (which is Skylake); I've just installed sssd
and hit the full system freeze. Even REISUB didn't work!

kernel 4.13.0-36-generic
sssd 1.15.3-2ubuntu1
apparmor 2.11.0-2ubuntu17.1

[Bug 1746806] Re: sssd appears to crash AWS c5 and m5 instances, cause 100% CPU

2018-02-28 Thread David JM Emmett
I'm still experiencing this issue in eu-west-1 using an m5.large -
machine will not boot.

Kernel is 4.4.0-1052-aws
sssd is 1.13.4
apparmor is 2.10.95

[Bug 1550779] Re: [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun - Xorg glitches

2018-02-23 Thread David JM Emmett
I keep experiencing this issue, using Ubuntu 17.10, an Intel Core
i3-5005U (with Intel HD 5500). It appears most often when a new
notification comes in (Slack/Spotify) and the lockscreen is visible.

Re: [Bug 1746806] Re: sssd appears to crash AWS c5 and m5 instances, cause 100% CPU

2018-02-05 Thread David JM Emmett
Given that the c5 instances are Skylake, and I read somewhere that
there’s some special edge-case for Skylake and later CPUs, is this
reproducible on proper hardware, or is it limited to KVM (prior to AWS’s
c5s, the hypervisors were xen).

I’ve got a couple of Skylake machines available, and will install sssd
and see what happens.

Cheers,
David

[Bug 1746806] Re: sssd appears to crash AWS c5 and m5 instances, cause 100% CPU

2018-02-02 Thread David JM Emmett
I'm experiencing this issue too with artful on c5.large. During the
installation of sssd-common 1.15.3-2ubuntu1, the last line of output is
"Warning failed to create cache: usr.sbin.sssd" before the instance
becomes unresponsive. If I use t2.medium, I don't experience this issue.

Regions tested: us-west-2 and eu-west-1

I do believe that I've experienced this issue without installing sssd,
sometimes the machine fails to boot from the initial launch of the AMI.
It freezes at "kernel: iscsi: registered transport (iser)"

[Bug 1313320] [NEW] Always zoomed in and crashes when opening shell

2014-04-27 Thread David JM Emmett
Public bug reported:

Ever since upgrading to 14.04 I've had issues with fglrx and gnome-
shell. I'm currently using Unity to actually report this issue, as this
seems stable enough, thus why I believe that gnome-shell is likely to be
at fault.

When I launch a gnome-shell session, the graphics mode changes a few
times before settling on the best one (which ends up being correct).
Then some apport dialogs appear (mega zoomed in along with the desktop
icons and black bar at the top) titled System program problem detected
and. If I hit either Report problem... or Cancel or try to use gnome
shell by throwing my mouse up to the top left then gnome-shell crashes
out.

I will try to get a couple of screenshots and attach them to this issue
after I have submitted it.

[Bug 1313320] Re: Always zoomed in and crashes when opening shell

2014-04-27 Thread David JM Emmett
Okay, so a little improvement after running `aticonfig --initial=dual-
head` is that gnome-shell isn't completely zoomed in, but still crashes
very easily when interacted with. If I `export DISPLAY=:0.0` from a tty
and launch stuff, then stuff runs but doesn't display a title bar,
indicating that the window decorator has died.

Won't attach screenshot as it won't show anything useful now.

[Bug 1189978] Re: Something relating to timer interrupts

2013-06-12 Thread David JM Emmett
Thanks, I'll try that now.

I tried using the 'noapic' parameter, which caused my system to
repeatedly halt until I hit the power button, which then caused the boot
process to advance a step or two. After successfully booting, the system
freezes completely (i.e. even `watch` doesn't respond) until I move the
mouse. I don't know if this information helps, but it's certainly
interesting!

2013-06-12 Thread David JM Emmett
By the system freezes completely, I mean the UI and audio freezes, I
don't think the system is actually freezing, it is just failing to
respond in a typically expected fashion.

[Bug 1189978] [NEW] Something relating to timer interrupts

2013-06-11 Thread David JM Emmett
Public bug reported:

At first, I raised this issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/alsa-driver/+bug/1186621 this is the main symptom of my problem.

Then, after some searching around, I came across this
http://askubuntu.com/a/3078/13879 which sounds like a reasonable cause
to my current problem. I'm not sure if it is a genuine bug, or just some
configuration issue, as I was following a few guides to get some jack
stuff working, and edited a few config files etc.

really quickly, if I wiggle my mouse, the audio continues as normal.

Let me try to explain what is the behavior of Unity. I downloaded and
installed the Alpha 1 of 11.04. Everything worked just out-of-the box (Dell
Studio 1557). I logged in to Unity and after I was connected to my Internet
router, it prompt me that proprietary drivers are available. I installed
them and then rebooted. After that I reach the log in screen but after I
provide username-password Unity doesn't show up. Now the interesting part is:
  * I hear the login sound/music
  * I see and use mouse point, right click works (can create folders,
launchers etc. and interact with them)
  * I see the wallpaper :)
  * Notifications work, as notification balloon pops up to tell me that I am
connected to Internet, but it is not transparent when I move the mouse over it

But if I choose to login with Ubuntu Classic Session, Gnome works.

What It seems to me is that the the upper menu bar (global menu) and the
left side bar doesn't show up. To file this bug I had to right click, create
a launcher for gnome terminal and then run in terminal:
   ubuntu-bug unity

I also attach a screenshot where the only thing you can see is the wallpaper
and the terminal launcher that I had to create to submit this bug report
If you need more info please tell me what should I report.
