2022-05-17 Thread JC AGUILAR
Hello,
Same issue with a Dell Latitude 5580. Device detection like disks fail
randomly. Built-in keyboard, touchpad and Wifi don't work.

Previous kernel build is fine.

[Bug 1798363] Re: i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1200:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (16/65535)

2021-11-19 Thread JC Reus
I'm still seeing this problem happening on a Razer Blade 15 Advanced (mid-2021).
The issue only happens after a resume from suspend (both on laptop lid close
and on suspend from the command line using `sudo pm-suspend`

Upon wake, the mouse is jerky, clicking on things, and becomes
increasingly unresponsive. The terminal (dmesg) is constantly writing:

```
i2c_hid i2c-ELAN0406:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535)
```

None of the workarounds I have seen seem to be able to restore the
trackpad to working order. Such as..

```
sudo rmmod i2c_hid hid_multitouch && sudo modprobe i2c_hid hid_multitouch
```

and

```
xinput --disable 19 && xinput --enable 19
```

Only a hard shutdown and a restart seem to fix things.

[Bug 1950087] Re: ubuntu 21.10 live usb does not recognize Razer Blade 15 (2021) nvme drive (possible kernel bug)

2021-11-07 Thread JC Reus
** Description changed:

  I am attempting to install Ubuntu on to a new Razer Blade 15 Advanced
  (mid-2021) laptop. However, there seems to be some issues with kernel
  compatibility. When installing 20.04 LTS I have many issues with
  hardware not being detected (especially the intel AX210 wifi card).
  Running the 21.10 release from a live usb happily detected all of my
  hardware out of the box, with one show-stopping exception.. the internal
- nvme drive is NOT visible at all.
+ nvme drive is not visible at all.

  I have tried every combination of bios options imaginable, as well as
  multiple Ubuntu-based distros such as Kubuntu, Pop!OS and Ubuntu Studio
  - all with the same results: 20.04 LTS detects the internal nvme and
  will install, but lacks important hardware support - while 21.10
  (running in live mode) is compatible with all the essential hardware out
  of the box, but does not "see" the internal nvme.

+ My short-term solution has been to install a 20.04 release using a wired
+ internet connection, followed by upgrading to 21.04. This configuration
+ then works, however if I upgrade again to 21.10 the internal drive again
+ becomes undetectable, making it impossible to boot the OS.
+
  This seems to be an emerging issue.. see:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1370379/21-10-does-not-see-windows-nvme-
  drive/1374079?noredirect=1#comment2364713_1374079
-
- And the current consensus seems to be that it is a kernel bug.

[Bug 1744807] Re: 17.10.1 desktop install from usb key fails

2018-01-22 Thread jc
For what it's worth I retried the exact same installation options/setup
as this bug report, but with the network cable disconnected. It worked
flawlessly.

After installation I connected the network cable, booted the machine,
then performed an apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade. Again, no
errors and it survived a reboot.

odd. is the 17.10.1 desktop installer downloading something if it has a
network connection, even if the user doesn't check the box to download
updates during install? Seems like the logical cause given the
circumstances I've experienced here. If you want logs from my machine
that i installed successfully (with no network connection during install
phase) let me know what commands/files you'd like output from.

[Bug 1474538] Re: nouveau driver fills syslog when running xscreensaver (molecule)

2016-12-06 Thread JC
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename:   xenial
4.4.0-53-generic

My syslog and kernel.log ballooned over night to 104GB each, filling up
my hard disk. I was bitten once before by this bug, but that was on the
14.04 release. Once again, I see this repeating pattern in my syslog.1
this morning:

[Bug 1412520] Re: eog crashed with SIGABRT in __assert_fail_base()

2015-05-29 Thread JC
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1303855 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303855

I believe to be affected by this bug as well but it is duplicated to a private
bug. How can I be notified of the status / work around?
Here's what I get when running eog on a specific image. It is consistently
reproducible.

$ eog /media/vm/SharedFolder/DSC_0036_LR.jpg
eog: /build/buildd/cairo-1.13.0~20140204/src/cairo-xlib-surface-shm.c:619:
_cairo_xlib_shm_pool_create: Assertion `*ptr != ((void *)0)' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Gnome Image Viewer v3.10.2

Opening of the same image with gimp works fine.

[Bug 1453429] Re: Add a new variant to symbols/lk

2015-05-09 Thread JC Ahangama
Thank you for your help.
THE PROPOSED ADDITIONS:

1. Please add the following program to the end of lk symbols file

=PLEASE ADD AT BOTTOM OF symbols/lk FILE==

// SINGHALA - US, SUBSTITUTES SOME AND ADDS SOME
// =
//
// This started as an upgrade to the first romanized version of
// Singhala called PTS Pali created in the 1860s. PTS requires
// dots and bars on letters that are rare in fonts, and impossible
// to type. Its singular purpose was to print Tripitaka, the
// collection of Buddhist discourses.
//
// This version covers the entire newer Singhala phoneme chart
// (Hodiya) that became standard just before the end of the 19th
// century. All the phonemes map to the SBCS. It is easy and
// faster than English to type. It overcomes the setback of
// Unicode Sinhala that it is not compatible with Pali and
// Sanskrit because it encodes two ligatures as base letters and
// the SLS1134 specification matching shape and morpheme sets
// violating Sanskrit orthography.
//
// Most importantly, this romanized version of Singhala has a
// companion orthographic font that displays the text in the
// native script and a JavaScript converts it to Unicode Sinhala
// and back dramatically increasing Singhala seen on the web due
// to its ease of use

Public bug reported:

We have registered a new variant for the X11\kbd\symbols\lk file:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90345

What is the procedure to make that layout variant also available in the
upcoming Ubuntu releases?

Thank you.

[Bug 1322232] Re: wrong margins on HP photosmart 5520 printer

2014-10-11 Thread jc
I have a similar problem: The printer is an HP Officejet Pro L7600,
which used to work fine on an earlier Ubuntu. But when I upgraded to
the latest xubuntu (LTE 14.04), the pages all have a blank margin about
1.3 or 1.4 cm wide, and the text in that area (title, page number, date,
etc.) in blank. The titles at the top typically have the bottom of
descenders in letters like 'p', 'q', and 'y', showing that the text was
placed correctly in PDF/PS, but the top parts of the letters are
erased by something.

I've poked around in all the config stuff I can find, and done a bit of
googling, and found comments about the problem on several forums, but as
here, I've found no answers. The fact that the printer printed in the
margin area (up to about 2 cm from each edge) proves that it's not the
printer's fault.

Anyone have a clue for how to fix it?

[Bug 991666] Re: VPN Connects Successfully Then Shortly Thereafter Fails

2014-07-10 Thread JC
Hi everybody,

I have the exact same symptoms on 14.04 with a PPTP VPN.

I have a very strong feeling this is related to custom routes. I can initiate
the VPN and have it working (had it up for at least 15min without problems),
but as soon as I add a custom route on the command line the connection drops
after a couple of seconds. Also, when entered in the VPN/Settings gui, the
connection drops shortly (seconds) after intiation.
Is there some conflicting process which stumbles over the custom route? Perhaps
dhclient or pptp itself?

So, for now, VPN is unusable to me as I need a custom route. Bummer.

The resulting Oops (ca. 1-2s after resume) is attached.
This time I came to X on my internal LVDS (the external monitor stuck in text
mode displaying the oops), and could still type with the internal keyboard
(bluetooth keyboard did nothing).

[Bug 1155731] Re: Recurring kernel panic with khidp after resume from S3 on a MacBook3, 1 with a connected bluetooth keyboard

2013-03-26 Thread JC
This is a fresh install of 13.04, which had this problem from the very
beginning. If I remember correctly (and I'm quite positive that I do), this
worked correctly in 12.10.
There probably is some way for you to oversee the bluetooth/device related
patches and the releases with significant changes pointing in this direction?
I'm willing to install a handful of kernels to try, but I have to admit I can
not go and install each and every kernel...

Can you point me to the Ubuntu patch set which is applied to the mailine
kernel?

I have this several times after boot as well, really annyoing.
If there is really no functional problem afterwards, perhaps the recurring
error messages could be suppressed?

2013-03-20 Thread JC
Yes, can confirm that

3.8.3-030803-generic
gives no crash and enables the bluetooth keyboard over multiple suspend cycles

and that

linux-image-3.8.0-13-generic
(which came in as an update today) crashes on resume as well as previous ubuntu
kernels.

Thanks for looking into this!

[Bug 1155731] [NEW] Recurring kernel panic with khidp after resume from S3

2013-03-15 Thread JC
Public bug reported:

After resume from GUI-triggered suspend, I consistently get kernel panics a
couple of seconds after resume. Fresh Log in window from GDM shows, then after
a couple of moments the panic occurs.
This is on a MacBook3,1 while connected to an Apple Wireless Keyboard, which I
guess might be one of the more often happening combinations.
This is my first report, sorry for any missing information.

[Bug 1155731] Re: Recurring kernel panic with khidp after resume from S3

2013-03-15 Thread JC
Right after resume:

Mar 15 18:23:32 DeepWhite kernel: [ 219.591269] sysfs: cannot create duplicate
filename '/class/bluetooth/hci0:46'

This (hci0:46) is the bluetooth keyboard device on the MacBook.
Maybe this would need to get removed/disconnected etc. right before suspend, so
that no collision happens after resume?

[Bug 1155731] Re: Recurring kernel panic with khidp after resume from S3 on a MacBook3, 1 with a connected bluetooth keyboard kernel-fixed-upstream

2013-03-15 Thread JC
Ok, tried again with mainline kernel 3.8.0.-030800, which works flawlessly as
well (as 3.9rc2). So the kernel panic seems to stem from the
differences/patches in between mainline and ubuntu-raring kernel 3.8.0.
Again, the official kernel gives a reliable panic every time I come back from
suspend the moment the bluetooth keyboard reconnects.

[Bug 983291] Re: Screen Rotation options only Counterclockwise Clockwise

2012-11-22 Thread JC
I can confirm the same problem on ubuntu 12.10 on a Macbook 2,1.
It works when mirroring, however.
From what I read on the internet, there is no Ubuntu 2D in 12.10, so that
work-around will not work any more.

I see this has low priority, but this seems fairly fundamental to me,
since I know many people who use more than one screen at work.

Regards.

[Bug 519935] Re: unable to eject cd-rom after burning disk

2012-10-20 Thread JC
This has been an issue for me for a long time. I get an error, after burning an
.iso image, that the disc is unable to eject. If I click cancel, the burning is
ruined. If I eject manually, then click cancel, all is good. I do not recall if
I ran into this issue in Ubuntu 10.04, but I have run 10.10, 11.04, 11.10,
12.04, AND 12.10 and all have the problem.
I run arch linux on my laptop and I have absolutely no problems with brasero.
There must be something wrong on the ubuntu or debian end of brasero.

I should be able to have two finger on the clickpad and still be able to
move the cursor. I cannot in Linux distros, however.

[Bug 1041874] [NEW] No multitouch on synaptics clickpad

2012-08-26 Thread JC
Public bug reported:

I cannot touch nor click one area of the clickpad and use another finger to
move the cursor.
I have checked man synaptics and the arch linux wiki about this, but nothing
creates a multi-touch environment.
Without this functionality, I am completely unable to drag and drop items with
ease.
