In my case it gives a LXDE session. So proper workaround with the
customized xorg.conf is using the kernel option "text" and entering

I added GdmXserverTimeout=20 in /etc/gdm/gdm-custom.conf under the
[daemon] section and that fixed the problem. Thanks. The machine has
333MHz Pentium II CPU by the way. GDM could state more explicitly that
my hardware is too slow, if it is not meant to be supported ;)

I don't know about timestamps, but I attached Xorg.0.log of jaunty dev
alpha. I was using GdmXserverTimeout=15 and custom xorg.conf to get
high-resolution video mode. (The monitor makes notable high noise when I
use the 1024x...@75 mode, like it did in intrepid, but the image is
good.)

I had many tabs open, I could not be very specific. I used xkill to kill
Firefox. However, if I try to restart firefox, I get the following
dialog:
"Close Firefox
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window,
you must first close existing Firefox p
ps -aef showed there were process "/usr/lib/firefox-bin -a firefox"
I killed it and after that I could restart FF. I wonder why xkill did not kill
Firefox, although it removed all Firefox's windows from desktop.
I am using Xubuntu Dapper.

In terminal "killall xfce4-panel"
Then type xfrun4 (or press Alt+F2) and run xfce4-panel.
Then click Applications > Quit, you get dialog
"Unable to quit session.
Quitting the session requires that Xfce's session manager (xfce4-session) is

least). With a directory containing MPEGs, even a video window pops up
having "VLC (XVideo output)" in the title bar when wxvlc is playing the
last video in the directory; closing the window does not kill wxvlc. The

Actually it seems to me that there is no way to quit VLC naturally (so
that wxvlc gets killed) after you have opened the "Open Directory..."
dialog.

(I am using Xubuntu 6.06) I have set 1024x768 resolution on both
displays using Applications > Settings > Display Settings before
enabling Xinerama. After restarting X by Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, I have
1152x864 pixel desktop on the first screen.

This happened on updated Xubuntu Dapper 6.06. When I selected shut
down, I got black screen and mouse cursor on it, the cursor would not
move. Even hitting s u b would not
boot. Could it have something to do with graphics driver mga? I had to
press the power button to shut do
