[Bug 1006734] [NEW] Samsung RF511 - background not refreshing in 12.04
Public bug reported: Adter update to 12.04 I have no wallpaper - instead everything that moves above the wallpaper leaves a trace on the background - it's not refreshing. [Bug 823199] Re: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file
@Sebastian - I thought it was obvious - the solution Aleksi-ajp wrote is the only reasonable. I peaked into the source code and: the change probably needs to be in Launcher.cpp in unity/plugins/unityshell/src/Launcher.cpp in function ProcessDndMove. Lack of comments in the code makes it hard to read, but I think makers of this part didn't anticipate such behaviour so it won't be simple. This code needs to be changed though: else { if (!_drag_edge_touching hovered_icon != _dnd_hovered_icon) { if (hovered_icon) { hovered_icon-SendDndEnter(); _drag_action = hovered_icon-QueryAcceptDrop(_dnd_data); } else { _drag_action = nux::DNDACTION_NONE; } if (_dnd_hovered_icon) _dnd_hovered_icon-SendDndLeave(); _dnd_hovered_icon = hovered_icon; } } bool accept; if (_drag_action != nux::DNDACTION_NONE) accept = true; else accept = false; SendDndStatus(accept, _drag_action, nux::Geometry(x, y, 1, 1)); Quick but dirty solution would probably be changing hovered_icon-SendDndEnter(); _drag_action = hovered_icon-QueryAcceptDrop(_dnd_data); to: hovered_icon-SendDndEnter(); _drag_action = nux::DNDACTION_COPY; Or maybe changing accept to always true (there is no information what those mean, so someone who wrote this needs to correct this) - Jason Smith jason.sm...@canonical.com is written as author, so maybe him? You made a huge design mistake in the beginning by not making it configurable (even if such configuration would be hidden from users it should be there in case you change your mind or your boss changes his mind about where to put it). [Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
this change would cost the same number of hours to make, irrespective of when it is made - sorry, but I don't believe it. Even if you could write this in the same time (I think you can't, and I speak from many years of experience) you lost hours of testing. And if you did it then many things that you would need to move now (like the menus for icons on launcher) would have already been movable too. You sound like you lack manpower - if this is the problem then maybe you shouldn't have changed so much and sticked to what was available instead of making something from scratch. (sorry for my English) a OS with a over engineered Launcher and under-engineered everything else is not very useful - everything you've done with Unity apart from the launcher is utter crap (I'm talking about dash) confirmed even by your own testing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668415 Title: Movement of Unity launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/668415/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
This again. I'm sorry about my comment but the reason for this is simple - everything people ask or beg about gets a response find another distro so the nerves of many supporters of Ubuntu are at the edge. Do you want people to use Ubuntu or do you want them to move to other distros? Because I can't recommend Ubuntu to people and I regret recommending it erlier, because once they see Unity and try (for example) to move the launcher they are angry at me for recommending something that doesn't work. I can use Unity and Ubuntu (with dificulties sometimes) but those people with little technical knowledge can't - and they could use erlier Ubuntu version without problems. Also the link you provided http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/11/user-testing- of-unity-reveals-some-surprising-results/ - shows how your dash is just not working as intended. [Bug 823199] Re: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file
Yes, it's still an issue. Why wouldn't it be if this bug wasn't even set to confirmed even if you can check it in one second. It's clear and simple - try to drag a PNG file from Krusader to the Unity launcher to Inkscape icon in the launcher. Thats it. You can't do that in Unity. Try it for yourself. It just doesn't allow you to do it (and Inkscape is perfectly capable of using PNG files - you can drag them to the Inkscape window and it works). ** Changed in: unity Status: Incomplete = Confirmed ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823199 Title: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/823199/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 823199] Re: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file
You can even try to drag from Nautilus (I wrote Krusader because that is what I use the most). So here is use case: 1. Open Inkscape. 2. Open Nautilus and drag some PNG file to the opened Inkscape window - it works. 3. Now try to drag the PNG file to the Unity launcher - Inkscape icon is disabled and you can't drag the file to Inkscape (so if the Inkscape windows is hidden you can't drag to it). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823199 Title: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/823199/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 823199] Re: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file
The problem is also not only with Inkscape but with many more applications. So it's not a bug in Inkscape but in the way your Unity disables icons if it thinks (wrongly) that an application doesn't allow drag and dropping the type of the file. Some apps open all types of files by the way, why would you disable their icons? [Bug 823199] Re: Drag and drop doesn't show all apps than can use the file
You are very wrong. For example Kate opens all file types when you drag them on it. Another example is Eclipse where you can add any type of files to project by simply dragging (but you can't to the icon in the Launcher because of this bug - so if the Eclipse window is hidden because you are dragging from full screen app you are screwed). Application can take different types of files depending on where exactly will you drop them but because of this bug you can't move the file to their icon to make them show if they are behind other windows. Eclipse is quite an important application I would think, not a special case. Another example is Firefox and Google Chrome - are they special cases too? Kate might have been a bad example. But you kindly missed Firefox and Google Chrome. Browsers are the most important applications these days. [Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
Richard, as I see it the programmers behind Unity made a project mistake of not making it configurable at the beginning (probably hardcoding every thing that should be changable parameter) and now it's quite hard to change. That is the main reason they don't want to fix it [IN MY OPINION, based on my observation of this and other discussion on this topic, I might be wrong] - they probably told Mark Shuttleworth that it will take a lot of time (not really wanting to do probably, I don't blame them). He doesn't want it, well because he is paying for this time and there are other important things to do (or fix) and in the same time people are mad because they can't move it even if it's in the center of their monitor setup... [Bug 823131] [NEW] Gksudo blocks screensaver
Public bug reported: Gksudo password dialogs block displaying screensaver. If I left the computer for several minutes after the gksudo password dialog is diplayed (without entering password) the screensaver doesn't turn on AND shows after entering the password. It could be damaging to CRT screens (and some LCDs). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823131 Title: Gksudo blocks screensaver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/823131/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 823132] [NEW] Autologin requires more password confirmation than normal logging
Public bug reported: If I choose autologin I want the computer to load without any questions and I willingly compromise my security on that machine. In Ubuntu though after autologin I have to write the password TWICE (once for Ubuntu One, the second one probably for Update Manager) instead of once when logging normally. Posibble solution: make an indicator for Unity that shows that entering password is required for unblocking Ubuntu One and Update Manager and don't block everything until I write them. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823132 Title: Autologin requires more password confirmation than normal logging To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/823132/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 656519] Re: Alt+Space window accessibility menu should not be accessible by right clicking on a window title bar
Keyboard shortcuts should always have an alternative: - most people won't even know the shortcut exist (or maybe you want to make a 100 page manual with them?) - keyboard shortcuts require movement of hands that distract from using the system with mouse, - some disabled people could have problems with keyboard shortcuts (requiring holding two keys). I was looking forward for new Unity in Ubuntu 11.10.
