Just an update, in the toshiba Qosmio I get a red screen after the
ubuntu screen (I don't know its name, but it is the same one that shows
up during boot before login in). At that point, the computer freezes and
the only way I can turn it off is by forcing a shutdown.

Changing things as suggested in post # 93 had a nasty side effect in my
computer: when I select shutdown or reboot it starts the
shutdown/restart process and freezes in an ugly red screen... I don't
know how LibreOffice can be interfering in this way, but if I set

CX20583 (Pebble HSF).
After installing HDAAnalizer.py and after changing the connection from 0x23 to

followed instructions on provided link to install alsa and rebooted the
computer.

Did you try installing the last drives for your hardware and using alsamixer to
select the right mic and to set the mic boost? (In my case I needed to set it
in 30).
Once you have it working, you can use the following command to persist changes:
sudo alsactl store 0

Hi,
I tried with kernel 2.6.35-020635rc1, and the problem is still there.
Maybe mork work needs to be done with the vga_switcheroo to solve this problem:

this still happens in the Toshiba Satellite M640. Would this be related
to the fact that this computer has an hybrid (Intel/Nvidia) graphics
card?

It seems the problem is the hybrid graphics card Intel/Nvidia. The
NVidia one never gets to work, so I am also unable to use the backlit
keyboard.
