Hi there,
I had that bug for a long time now, but I didn't bother till now. Well,
when I have my usb disk connected to my pc when I boot onto Ubuntu, The
disk doesn't appear mounted. I have to stop or unplug it then reconnect
it for it to be mount.

I installed edgy and ran into the same problem. I watched the log files
more precisely and found those logs I have attached. The problem on edgy
seems to be the same as the one on dapper.

It's been a couple of week now that I often have two screen warning
screens when I start my computer :
failed to initialize HAL!

It is strongly recommended you reboot your compter after starting

no, the dependencies aren't wrong. The tarball you downloaded is
standalone (contains all the library it needs) so it doesn't need any
other thing . When developers package a software the do their best to
reuse existing installed software and that creates the dependency concept.

Actually the TAR tool has a built in backup (with incremental support) system.
It creates a file just looking like a mixed of the flist and fprops file. Look
at some documentation here :

Setting as confirmed as it's true . But I think it's not especially a
gedit lack it seems to be more a Gnome one . Try using the printing
option in all gnome application (using the gnome printing widget ) and
you'll get the same problem.

In fact I didn't meant it to be install by users, it was for the
developper to apply on the source file and to release it like an update.

If you don't link the CD icon to the physical drive, it makes sense. The
icons you see are the CD's (hence the CD icon) and not the drive. If no
CD / DVDs are in the drives, you should see no CD icons in the
'Computer' folder.

I have take a look at lshal ( that's my first time :p ) and I have seen
:
storage.policy.desired_mount_point = 'dvdrecorder' (string)
for both drive, so I guess there is no way to have the two of them
appear at the same time . is it an HAL bug ?

Well, Here is what I have done, I didn't want to put off my IDE drive cause I
would have to dismount my computer .
So I make the steps by inserting CDs .
In that case, I have inserted 2 CDs one after another , so I got two
drives in the computer place. I'll reboot and send the case I'll
hum, here comes the second case . I put one cd the removed it and put it
on the second drive. then I put another cd in the first drive and, in
the computer place there were only one icon but with the new cd (ie in
the first drive) then I removed the cd in the second drive and then a
second icon

Be careful, this version will REMOVE every incomplete backup dir in

Usually that number indicates bugfixes or minor improvments . It would be
difficult to update the GUI following those.
You might want to use synaptic or 'dpkg --status sbackup' to see the

Actually, /dev/xxx are devices that are used by mounting them into
directories (usually /media/xxx on Ubuntu ) . so it 's normal to see
/media/xxx instead of /dev/xxx .
Sbackup doesn't check for disk usage. That should be filled as a
wishlist in a new Bug. Please feel free to open a new bug

I can understand the problem (sbackup not giving informations about its precise
status at a certain time ) . But since it's in the background , how could it ?
Do you think that adding a feature that permit the user to ask for sbackup
status is a good solution ?

Hi,
I have studied your proposition (with libnotify) but I think it isn't
possible cause Sbackupd is launched by the root . To get a notification,
it seems that one has to launch a Gnome session under its ID (which is
never the case ) . Anyway I think that is to be classify as a wishlist
. And

Fixed upstream . I thought about also rejectiong the inclusion ( like
/home/me/my/ and /home/me/my/dir/ ) but in some case it my be useful
( like include /home/me/my/ and /home/me/my/dir/inc/ , exclude
/home/me/my/dir/ can make sense )

button is toggled automatically to custom backup settings. If you
toggle it back to 'manual backup only' the time is set to Never
