[Bug 575937] Re: Can't synchronize Tomboy Notes: Server returned 404 NOT FOUND
Had to recover my tomboy again from this bug - which I triggered by making my couchdb reauthenticate at the ubuntu one server by the standard method from freedesktop.org. Hoped it would repair contact sync. But at least found a way to recover tomboy that is relatively easy: - Start gconf-editor - unset the key /apps/tomboy/sync/sync_selected_service_admin - unset all keys in /apps/tomboy/sync/ubuntuone - Restart tomboy - Set up syncing with ubuntu one again from tomboy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575937 Title: Can't synchronize Tomboy Notes: Server returned 404 NOT FOUND -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 727995] [NEW] evolution won't sync with ubuntuone on natty
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-couchdb Evolution won't sync with ubuntuone on my computer. Did remove all passwords from the keyring, restarted couchdb and everything. But no success. Syncing tomboy notes (using couchdb, too) works fine, file sync, too. The rhytmbox plugin doesn't appear. But I don't know if due to the same reason. [Bug 445781] Re: Cannot access Ubuntu One contact address book from Evolution
Think it is today's service disruption. But after switching to the services tab in the ubuntuone control center I get the following result: gunter@book:~/$ session --print-reply --dest=org.desktopcouch.CouchDB / org.desktopcouch.CouchDB.getPort Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. If I don't actually try to use couchdb before this command returns a port number instead. Another thing that seems to indicate a failure: If I go to the URL file:///home/(username)/.local/share/desktop-couch/couchdb.html the page I get redirected to returns the following error messages: Server information could not be retrieved: TypeError: $.httpData is not a function An error occurred retrieving the list of all databases: TypeError: $.httpData is not a function -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445781 Title: Cannot access Ubuntu One contact address book from Evolution -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 445781] Re: Cannot access Ubuntu One contact address book from Evolution
Oops... ...sorry. Did everything *except* restarting evolution-data- server: On my computer the directory /usr/lib/evolution/2.32/ does only contain the following four programs: - evolution-addressbook-clean - evolution-alarm-notify - evolution-addressbook-export - evolution-backup After the last few updates desktopcouch has started working together flawlessly with dbus: gunter@book:~/src$ dbus-send --session --dest=org.desktopcouch.CouchDB --print-reply --type=method_call / org.desktopcouch.CouchDB.getPort method return sender=:1.100 - dest=:1.126 reply_serial=2 int32 47197 So the bug probably should be named evolution-data-server missing on natty: I have installed the homonymous package (evolution-data- server). And to make completely sure I have also purged evolution-data- server and evolution-data-server-common along with evolution itself (don't do this at home: It will uninstall all the things that keep network-manager working so re-installing these tools is only possible for an experienced user) and re-installed the packages again: My original problems with ubuntuone were caused by the fact some files were missing after my first attempt to install them. [Bug 724640] [NEW] Pairing couchdb with ubuntuone seems to depend on avahi-daemon
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-couchdb On my system pairing my desktopcouch with ubuntu one always seemed to fail until I installed avahi-daemon. [Bug 709156] Re: nm-applet often crashes on natty when apt-get dist-upgrading
Am using natty. (normal ubuntu) and I don't think unity does any good. So I am using compiz with loads of effects enabled and the ordinary gnome-panel. [Bug 700176] Re: bcmwl bcmwl-kernel-source 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu1 fails to build
The Unknown symbol in module I got when trying to compile bcmwl with the headers from linux-headers-2.6.37-11-generic instead of the linux- headers-2.6.37-12-generic that would have matched my kernel. Another time I got this message was when after installing a new kernel I tried to compile the module for the new one --- and the Makefile compiled it for the old one, instead. Seems like the tracking which kernel to compile the module for is somehow critical. Don't know if that can help you; The missing MODULE_LICENSE does AFAIK just indicate that the module does claim not to be GPL (which is a choice made by the creator: It hinders the module from being debugged and thus from being reverse- engineered) but does not tell which license it conforms to, instead. Public bug reported: Brightness control is broken for Samsung netbooks which is bad, since after resume the screen backlight defaults to off. https://launchpad.net/~voria/+archive/ppa/+packages contains all the dkms modules needed to make the brightness keys work and to fix the awful screen stays black after resume bug along with all the scripts that are needed. [Bug 683775] Re: Natty Alpha 1, i915 has blank screen after boot
Don't like unity. I rather use compiz. Or even the classical gnome session with metacity that is more fit for a user that uses more than a handful applications regularily. ...anyway... [Bug 691425] [NEW] Samsung N210i915/Intel N10/:Screen stays black after resume + setting brightness won't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image On a fresh install of Ubuntu my new Samsung N210 plus netbook worked like magic with one exception: If I close the lid it suspends or hibernates and if I open the lid again it is up in half a second - but the screen stays black. Found a blog that told to try a setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=brightness (actually even if the writer of this blog did own the same netbook his graphics card was at a different pciid; Brightness ranges between 00 (off) and ff (full brightness). And since this change worked I added a file named /etc/pm/sleep.d/99_LightsOn with the following contents: #!/bin/sh case $1 in resume|thaw) /usr/bin/setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=50 ;; esac which resolved the case for me. Since setting the brightness by the brightness keys won't work either and booting with the noapic or the nolapic option will lead to a complete black screen with backlight off, too, I assume it is a kernel bug. But feel free to reassign at will. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: grub-pc Not a big deal for me, but I thought I should report this nonetheless: If the following line is commented out in /etc/default/grub: #GRUB_TERMINAL=console - my system rarely (Tried to start the system 30 of which it happened 3 times) hangs prior to loading the kernel. To make sure it really doesn't load the kernel I repeated this test starting my computer (A acer aspire an A110L) with the shift key pressed. About every tenth time the computer hung instead of displaying a boot menu. Sometimes the screen stays blank except of a blinking cursor, sometimes it just stays blank (but the backlight is on) - and one time the display faded in a way that seems to indicate that the LCD matrix is no more accessed by the graphics card. + my system rarely (Tried to start the system 30 of which it happened 3 times) hangs prior to loading the kernel. Note that around the begining of December 2010 there was a kernel bug as well that could lead to a black screen *after* the kernel was loaded (Bug #683775). To make sure the kernel really doesn't load I repeated this test starting my computer (A acer aspire an A110L) with the shift key pressed. [Bug 685445] [NEW] grub2 sometimes fails to boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub-pc Not a big deal for me, but I thought I should report this nonetheless: If the following line is commented out in /etc/default/grub: #GRUB_TERMINAL=console my system rarely (Tried to start the system 30 of which it happened 3 times) hangs prior to loading the kernel. [Bug 685078] [NEW] screen stays black after startup / grub2 hangs trying to change graphics mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 On my Aspire one AOA 110L if the line #GRUB_TERMINAL=console in /etc/default/grub is commented (which is the default) in about 60% of the times th screen stays black after booting. The background light of the screen still goes on and off at every video mode change. And I am able to open a terminal whenever I want, to reboot the computer and even to play a ogg/vorbis file - so the computer basically works. But the screen stays black and blank. In another 30% of the times grub-pc hangs completely without even loading the kernel or displaying the boot menu if I press the Shift key during boot. Sometimes in this case the display fades in the way that indicates that the light is on - but it is no more accessed by the graphics card. If I uncomment the GRUB_TERMINAL=console and do a sudo update-grub afterwards the computer is up in 12 seconds and runs fine. This problem is relatively new (about 2-3 weeks) and reproducible both with plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo and plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text. Uninstalling plymouth at all seems no longer to be supported on natty. [Bug 677417] [NEW] Firefox is slow if automatic detection of proxy is on, but there is no proxy

[Bug 640287] [NEW] The 'T' attribute of the /home directory should be set
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: base-files Detailed background: One of the things the outstanding performance of a linux system is based on is the highly-optimized file system that does not only try to optimize the process of finding where a certain file can be found or try to keep fragmentation low so the whole file can be read in one chunk without the need of moving the hard disk's read head during the process. It also watches tiny details. For example it watches that the physical distance between the contents of two subdirectories of the same directory on the hard disk is kept as low as possible, too. For most directories this makes sense: /etc/network/if-pre-up.d will be used shortly before /etc/network/if-up.d is, so making the distance the hard disk's read head has to cross in order to move from one of these directories to the other small is a good idea as is keeping the whole directory structure ~/.firefox as physically compact as possible. It also makes sense to keep the contents of the home directory of any individual user as physically compact as possible. In the ideal case the files from the user foo are in one very compact part of the hard disk, and the files owned by the user bar are in another very compact chunk of the hard disk. There is one exception of this rule, though: It does not make sense to make the individual subdirs of /home to be as close to each other as possible since this would mean that the file system has to choose if it wants to keep this file from the user foo as close as possible to that file from the user bar --- or if it wants to keep this file from the user foo as close as possible to the other files from the user foo. Which in turn makes the files of the user foo to be spread over a bigger part of the hard disk than necessary. Poposed enhancement: add a chattr +T /home to the post-install-script. This allows the file system to put every subdirectory of /home into a different physical place on the hard disk --- which in turn allows it to to keep each of these physical places as compact as possible. Source: The manpage of the chattr command (chattr(1)) contains the following paragraph: A directory with the 'T' attribute will be deemed to be the top of directory hierarchies for the purposes of the Orlov block allocator. This is a hint to the block allocator used by ext3 and ext4 that the subdirectories under this directory are not related, and thus should be spread apart for allocation purposes. For example it is a very good idea to set the 'T' attribute on the /home directory, so that /home/john and /home/mary are placed into separate block groups. For directories where this attribute is not set, the Orlov block allocator will try to group subdirectories closer together where possible. Unlike about a month ago the mount point of the stick doesn't disappear, but if I enter a directory there and try to read it (i used the ls command for doing this) i get a ls: reading directory .: Input/output error so suspending still doesn't work. 2 minutes later the desktop icon's name of the memory stick changes from the label of the filesystem to 7.9GB encrypted media. - Unmounting the stick still doesn't remove its /dev/mapper/something entry - and if I remove and plug in the stick again I am instantly asked for the password but mounting it doesn't succeed. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- Automount of encrypted medium at login doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 488247] Re: Inkscape 0.47 is slow starting
Interestingly enough if run as a filter without opening its gui (like inkscape --export-eps=something.eps filename.svg) inkscape seems to be still as fast as it used to be. -- Inkscape 0.47 is slow starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488247 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 627134] Re: Ghosts of pointer's past (ruler refreshing problem)
The same here with the Nodoka theme. Since this kind of issue loads of times is caused by the X server: lspci for my video card gives me the following line: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) Killing compiz or setting the desktop effects to none doesn't make the triangles inside the ruler indicating the pointer's position to be removed before being moved to a new place, though. Refreshing the window or minimizing it won't help, either. -- Ghosts of pointer's past (ruler refreshing problem) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627134 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
