I expected Firefox to open and remain on screen. Instead, it disappears after
apparently closing or minimising 6 or 8 times. This is followed by Firefox
seemingly tring to open again, but failing to do so. When I again click on

I believe my laptop uses Gnome 2.30.0 - sorry if this sounds vague, but I am
not very clever about the finer details of computing. If this is wrong, perhaps

Finally got there, thanks to your advice.
Now have the newer Ubuntu desktop, etc. and it seems more stable.
Firefox wakes up at once, the windows have stopped disappearing down a black
hole at the bottom of the screen - and now minimise properly.

...When I checked, I was using the new user account to assess the improvement.
I am sorry to say that any window still disappears when using the original
account.Firefox loads perfectly, however.
I am not as cheery as I was!

I do not see the minimised windows in the bottom panel.
They do not appear there at all.
