this is actually a bug in the ffmpeg package.
can someone please check if this is somehow reproducable?
Jason, in your case, please try the following commands:
/usr/bin/vlc /media/cdrom0/Torchwood\ S02E08\ A\ Day\ In\ The\ Death\
[Xvid].avi
and
/usr/bin/ffmpeg /media/cdrom0/Torchwood\ S02E08\
this really looks like your package database got corrupted somehow. How
this happened is entirely unclear.
I'm therefore converting this bug to a launchpad ticket.

this is absolutely intended behavior. you can still access vlc using the icon
in the system tray.
in order to exit vlc use the menu.

after rereading the bugtrail, I don't see anything to fix here in the
cryptsetup package.
intrepid ships with an askpass binary, that safly asks the password
using the 'best' available means. Which includes usplash if available.

driver/kernel issue.
As I don't have enough ralink RT25xx driver knowledge, I'm reassigning
