I've noticed an issue similar to this on an xubuntu-alternate daily
build (3-25-08 iirc). Around 85%, the installer does not appear to be
doing anything (no information is given to the user, atleast). In my
case, the installer stayed in this state for about 2 hours while it
downloaded packages
This issue still appears present on the new xubuntu login screen
artwork. Installed from xubuntu-alternate daily (3-25-08 iirc) and I
noticed this issue on both 1024x768 and 1280x1024 resolutions. Note that
this is an installation run on actual machines, not in virtualbox.

It is Ubuntu. And it's not a screensaver that I made. Maybe I wasn't clear I
apologize for that but it is when I go to screensaver under preferences and
as soon as that window opens the system goes to a black screen then takes me
to the login screen.

When I installed Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 4 (Jaunty) off the LiveCD, it
allowed me to mount everything, including /boot on XFS, I assumed that
Grub had stopped being stupid in Ubuntu and finally allowed you to boot
off XFS, and proceeded to install, the installer of course bombed
