@edgimar: That command doesn't work on my system (command not found), but xset dpms force off does. I'll give that a go next time I hit the bug. FWIW, to run this from tty1–6, use sleep 5 ; xset dpms force off -display :0 and then switch back with ctrl-alt-F7. @matt-price: I still get this bug
