Once I manually deleted the file apt-mirror.lock (I do not have it the default
location of /var/spool/apt-mirror/var/apt-mirror.lock), then apt-mirror
continued to work.

I have not installed Ubuntu updates on the second partition and the environment
is working better.

For the record, I have just confirmed the issue is still in Firefox 6.0
on Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha
The link above from Angus and Brent mentions that the fix has been found
so hopefully will find it into Firefox before the Ubuntu release date in
October.

If you have not put in your credentials in the Ubuntuone client, the initial
screen still advertises that there is a 2Gb free storage allowance.
This should now read 5Gb.
