Today Update Manager gifted a lot of Xorg stuff. Of course, I
immediately tried changing screen resolution and *drums* - *fanfare* -
changing screen resolution works again. Still a black screen, but it
recovers after few seconds. :-)

[82G33/G31] Changing screen resolution results in a black screen
Unfortunately, after the release of Jaunty, this is still an issue.
Things get worse, as some applications (e.g. Firefox, Pidgin) obviously
trust some hidden notification system on the unavailability of the
network. I can bring up the network as described above and ping
arbitrary hosts
Have anybody here had a look to the /apps/gnome-power-
manager/lock/use_screensaver_settings gconf key? If you look there with
the gconf-editor app, you even see keys to override this indepedently
from the screen saver.
That said, it appears all this screen-lock-disabling stuff is pretty

Yes. The upgrade process hung for several minutes on this package.

- Install alpha5 onto a fresh partition.
- Notice the OS runs fine.
- Notice also the automatic updater reports some unresolvable situation.
- Go to Synaptic, click mark all updates.
I think you can scratch that. A similar attempt to install alpha5 and
upgrading to current a few hours later went just fine. Obviously, I were
caught at a point in time when some packages weren't compatible.

3. Open gnome-volume-control to get that device into use, i.e. make it
the default audio device.
