Public bug reported:
I need to remove all HTTP related stuff.
Among these I've found the package php5-cgi.
If I ask to purge it, I am asked to install apache2. And the other way around
as well.
It should be possible to purge php5-cgi without the need to install apache2.
ProblemType: Bug
PHP5 can be used without any web related stuff.
So there is no need to pull web stuff when PHP5 is installed.
On the other side, php5-cgi does need web stuff as CGI a web technology.
Your suggestion proved to be good, though.

I'm sorry I cannot say which dependencies I'd like to have: I have no idea.
All I can tell you is that among php5 dependencies I see:

You are very likely right.
I tried to test a web application which needed a number of php5 stuff to be
pulled.
Once I decided the tests were over, I tried to uninstall those packages.
The end situation was the one I described.

As of today, the HAL / automount feature is not working again.
CDROMs, DVDROMs, USB memory and memory cards don't trigger the usual friendly
pop up dialog asking for actions (playing, opening/mounting etc.).
I'm runnig an up-to-date Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 3.5.9.
I confirm that those HAL scripts
1. Yes, it's running.

3. Attached.
I see that the udev.log file seems to be incomplete, and it's long
exactly 8K!

In System Settings - General - Notifications there's no Storage Media
Notifications.
All items here cannot be deleted or modified. Is this a bug?
Then I went to Add and added everything was there with dolphin %u as an
action. I applied the changes and magically I saw the things happening again.

And I cannot copy files to the storage (USB memory stick) because of some
permissions if I use dolphin.
The mount point (/media/disk) has been given the group ownership to root but
this should not prevent me from copying files there.
Infact I can copy files from commandline.

Few days ago it was working.
And, of course, I've not touched anything.

I can do that and will post the results.
But the point remains: it used to work and now it doesn't, without any
intervention of mine but the usual sudo (apt-get update; apt-get upgrade)
every while.
