After installing Ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop PC and installing
proprietary graphic card drivers and rebooting ubuntu fails to boot up
and switches between black screen and flashes of desktop without unity
menu. I am currently running on PC Nvidia Geforce 7100 Graphics card.
Thank you Alejandro. I was able to successfuly install the 295.33 driver
through terminal on Precise 12.04. To stop it updating to a higher
version of that particular package, I then then installed synaptic
package manager and locked the 295.33 package so it cannot be updated. I
will leave it that
Has anyone tried the 295.49 driver yet and is it working OK. I have read
one prevous post which stated that this driver hung his system. But
reading his attached printout it would appear he may have had the 295.40
driver installed and not the 295.49.

Hi Ben, If Update Manager still wants to install the old driver, go to
Synaptic Package Manager and lock the new driver. That way in will stop
it from wanting to install the old one. Once the new driver is released
then unlock it.

[regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not
I still have the 295.33 driver installed and they have been working for
the last4 days now since I insalled them without any problems.
I do note from post #101 and a couple of others that an updated driver
(295.49) is now availale after the troublesome 295.40 driver.

I can confirm this bug on kubuntu intrepid, fully updated.
Also ~/.kde/share/config/.plasma-appletsrc contains no information
whatsoever about firefox, only generic stuff as to where to place the
plasmoids, what desktop background to use etc.

I'm using the nvidia drivers for a GF 6800 Ultra. I tried both

I have a laptop here too with Gutsy using a SiS5513 HDD controller. It
fails to boot using the 'default' kernel, 2.6.22-14.
My current workaround is to set 2.6.20 as the default kernel, which
still has the module, but I can hardly call that a proper solution. Why
has this driver been removed?
After reading a lot of comments on this 'bug', I found a way to fix it.
Suspend started working after changing the USB from +5V to +5VSB. I do
get a message about half the times that 1 application refused to freeze:
Plasma. After the suspend attempt, I have to kill plasma and restart it.
If I try
It seems (not 100% confident yet) that this is fixed now. It might be
Ubuntu updates but I also changed video settings: I replaced agpgart
with NvAGP to get suspend/hibernate working. Maybe that also fixed this
issue since I haven't seen the low graphics mode warning about during 8
bootups now.
I have just downloaded the 9.04 alpha 3 to try this. Volume up and down
works fine in Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 3, but mute still does not work. But
this is most likely caused by there not being a mute option on the PCM
channel of my sound card driver (Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS). I still do
not see why
I 'fixed' it now by deleting ~/.kde/share/config/plasmarc
Put the old plasma-appletsrc back in place so I have my desktop back

I just added intrepid-proposed to my apt sources and updated
kbluetooth4.

On jaunty jackalope development preview, I get an incorrect warning
about being in low graphics mode.
About every time I boot my computer, I first get a message that Ubuntu
is running in low graphics mode. Then I get a menu showing options to

Why is it even in the repositories if the current release is around 2
years old? The package should be dropped if noone is going to maintain
it, because then at least it doesn't give the (false) impression that
you can get an up to date version from the repository.
