Hi,
I just reinstalled Ubuntu and found that it worked before I copied my
home folder back.
After I did, it stopped working again.
So it must have had something to do with changes in the xorg.conf file
that were not compatible with the new version.
I got rid of all the settings concerning the
Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 8.10 (beta): the keyboard on the Vostro seems not to be identified
correctly.
I can't type but symbols (such as the at symbol).
I tried switching to a different keyboard through system -settings but only
the message (attached) popped up.

I can confirm the bug as well on a Vostro 1500 with nvidia card running
driver 177.

In my case the bug is located in nvidia-glx-177.
I use a Sony 46 inch TV to watch movies in dual view.
After log-in into Ubuntu the right resolution is shown on the TV screen for
just a second.
Then, the background image becomes smaller but I can still move the move across
the whole screen.
