Hi, I have the same issue, when logged in there's only the desktop
wallpaper, no sidebar nor top bar, and when issued the
unity --reset
command it terminates with the AttributeError: 'str' object has no
attribute 'get_string'
Not sure if it is relevant, but the system is a Lenovo S10e netbook
Oh, forgot to mention that I have tried to perform an update as well,
using apt-get update apt-get upgrade. It did download and install new
packages, however, after rebooting once the updates were completed this
apparently did not fix the problem. The same symptoms re-appeared as
mentioned, and
FYI, I performed the same upgrade, from 10.10 to 11.04 on a similar
system, Lenovo S10-2, and this worked fine. The only difference is that
this concerns a newer version of the S10 (S10e vs S10-2), but the specs
aren't that much different. Standard Intel Atom, Intel GMA, but
different design.

I have this issue on my N210 on Maverick (2.6.35). Screen stays black
after resume. I've installed a Lucid kernel (2.6.32). This kernel does
resume from suspend properly and seems to work ok with Maverick
otherwise too.

It now also works for me (HP Elitebook 8440p). I still had an xorg.conf
file on my system because a few months ago I had to set the parameters
manually because the xorg driver did not work back then.
Since multiple people now confirm it as working I close this bug with
fix released

I have this issue on two lucid amd64 machines with nvidia proprietary
drivers and NOT with another lucid amd64 machine with ati proprietary
drivers. So could this be related to they nvidia proprietary blobs? Just
a hunch, could be other differences.

I think version 0.47 would still require you to manually re-encode files
with non-utf8 encoding to import them. Fixing that would be a valid
feature request and is quite different from this bug, so it requires
it's own report.

There is some work being done on issues with file system encoding. But
the fix will be that we just ignore any files that have invalid
characters in the name. If the filesystem encoding can not decode the
character there is no way we can guess the correct encoding and handle

I'm the developer for this application and would like to investigate.
Unfortunately these apport reports don't mean much to me. Please include
the actual error output from zim.
You can get output on stderr by running zim from a terminal with zim
-D.

As the developer of zim I would probably be able to diagnose this
given the actual error output of the tool. However I do not seem to
have access to view these apport bugs. So nothing I can do at this
moment.

kick: i've had the same problem when installing monodevelop. this
package takes ages to complete so i hit ctrl+c a few times. it took
around 2hours on a pentium m 2.0ghz with 2gb ram, eating 100% cpu on
9.10.

If Lucid has zim 0.42 this is correct. On unix we call xdg-open by
default, which should in turn do the right thing on Gnome, KDE and XFCE.

Probably due to a glitch in either gtk itself or the gtk-perl bindings.
A bug in the perl code in which the application is written should never
result in a segfault.
Since zim 0.42 is a complete rewrite now using python-gtk bindings
instead, and since gtk has seen new releases since this bug

I agree it's really cumbersome to change the window size. The area where
the mouse pointer changes such that you can resize the window is way too
small
