Since the time of posting, I have added a windowsXP partition to my computer, and am currently dual-booting. The problem is present in windows as well, even moreso. Because of this, I am thinking it is more of a hardware configuration problem than a software bug. I plan on testing the

The motherboard of the computer is now fried, and might have been for quite some time (I have not been using it very much over the last two months). This, coupled with the fact that no one else has confirmed this bug even though it has been open for more than 6 months, makes me even more certain
