[Bug 948944] [NEW] after upgrade from oneiric python applications may use the wrong version of wxpython and fail as a result
Public bug reported: I am using the printrun utilities from ppa:richi-paraeasy/ppa. Upon upgrade from oneiric pronterface, which uses and depends on wxpython 2.8, fails to run due to missing attributes even though both wxpython 2.6 and 2.8 are both installed. It turns out that it is actually using 2.6, since removing 2.6 results in the error changing to import wx: no such module. This seems related to python-wxversion since removing and reinstalling python-wxgtk2.6 and 2.8 did not help. [Bug 591187] [NEW] wacom tablet touch function rotation only rotates press event, release is unchanged
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom I own a lenovo x61T tablet PC. It is convenient to be able to rotate the screen and wacom input, which I do with the popular auto-rotate.py script. This uses xsetwacom to set the stylus, eraser, and touch input orientations. Eraser and stylus input are rotated correctly, but touch behaves strangely. It only seems to rotate the mouse button pressed event, while the mouse release event stays unrotated. The symptom of this is that when I try to click somewhere on the screen, the cursor is underneath my finger while I am touching the screen but jumps back to the unrotated position when I release my finger. This happens both when using the autorotate script and when calling xsetwacom by hand. This makes usage of the touch function in any rotation other than normal completely impossible and therefore removes a very nice piece of functionality from this hardware. This is a regression, since it worked fine in Karmic. To get my tablet working properly in other respects (stylus buttons, touch calibration, auto rotation) I've had to remove /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-wacom.conf and use a custom xorg.conf which I have attached. ** Affects: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: rotation tablet touch wacom -- wacom tablet touch function rotation only rotates press event, release is unchanged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 435805] Re: Icons overlap for categories with = 9 rows
@Didier: constructive is precisely what I was trying to be. in that spirit: I just gave the lucid live iso a try, and the problem in this bug didn't manifest itself. I did not try to install any extra apps, but there is a fair amount of icons in the system-settings, and it doesn't exhibit this problem. There were however two other problems: - at first netbook-launcher started hung, i.e. it wouldn't react to input or redraw its window after it gets damaged by others. after killing netbook-launcher it gets restarted (by gnome-session presumably) and then mainly works. - except that sometimes the whole launcher gets shifted to the left by about 1/3rd of a screen, with the cut-off part getting wrapped around. Mouse input in this case is still taken from the original location, i.e. to activate a certain icon, I have to click about 1/3rd of a screen to the right of it. hi Roeland, There is apparently no straightforward workaround in the current release (karmic). Supposedly the bug is fixed in the next release (lucid) and you could just upgrade to that, but it's still in development. I ended up dowgrading just the netbook-launcher and libnetbooklauncher packages to the versions from the previous release (jaunty, not hardy as I wrote above). You get the slightly older interface, but it works just fine. To all subscribers with nvidia cards: Have you tried turning xinerama hints off? I remember that used to be possible in the nvidia drivers in the xorg.conf somehow. That way your window manager will not even know that you're runnning two screens, it will just think you have one big one with a weird geometry. That will of course break other things, but would probably work around this issue if it's imoprtant to you. I can't test it myself since I'm on ATI at the moment and don't know how to do it there. -- Desktop Effects prevents any window from stretching across dual monitors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507837 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It isn't just a language issue, I'm having it on an English system. Maybe it's an upgrade problem? out of curiosity, I'd like to do a little survey: To all the subscribers, please report back if you see the problem on a fresh install or on upgrade. [Bug 435805] Re: Icons overlap for categories with = 9 rows
Didn't help for me either. mini_rant It baffles me how such a vital piece of the UI can be broken for effectively an entire release cycle. ubuntu release quality has continously gotten worse for at least the last 2 years if you ask me. There has not been a single release that updated flawlessly for me, and each one of them had annoying regressions, some of which were never fixed until the next release (and some even persisted for more than one cycle)/mini_rant Anyway: As a workaround I'm using the netbook-launcher from jaunty, which works perfectly after also installing the right clutter libraries. And in my opinion it also looks nicer. The only catch is that the go home button doesn't work anymore, but adding a show desktop button to your panel will accomplish the same. -- Icons overlap for categories with = 9 rows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/435805 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 471129] [NEW] x61 tablet acpi event ibm hotkey HKEY 00000080 00005009 not mapped to keypress
Public bug reported: As of ubuntu karmic all hotkey events (even if they are acpi events) are supposed to be mapped to input events by the kernel. However ibm/hotkey HKEY 0080 5009 ibm/hotkey HKEY 0080 500a do not generate a keypress event. Which in a way may be sensible, since they are not actually keys, they are actually the events for changing the x61 tablet from laptop mode to tablet mode. However, current acpid refuses to handle those events in the current version of ubuntu, since the kernel should generate keyboard input events for this, but as stated above, it doesn't. Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix this? As it stands I don't have access to that event at all, since acpid doesn't handle it any more and no other event is generated yet, so I can't assign it in my desktop environment either. running latest karmic as of 2009-11-2, in thinkpad x61 tablet. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- x61 tablet acpi event ibm hotkey HKEY 0080 5009 not mapped to keypress https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/471129 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 336012] [NEW] bluetooth network PAN fails to connect to mobile phone
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bluez I tried connecting to my mobile phone (Sony Ericsson w910) via bluetooth Network (PAN), and the phone reports that my computer is trying to use it as a modem and asks for permission twice in a row. After I grant permission the first time, pand says bnep0 connected, but dhclient fails to obtain an address. After a few seconds the second request for permission on the mobile phone screen times out and the interface ceases to exist (dhclient reports no such device). If I grant the second request the device disappears immediately. If I tell the phone to always allow connections without asking, pand reports connection refused right away. The same happens if I try to use the new (dbus only) way of creating a network connection (I did so via some python script I found on the net). This is really quite annoying, because it worked fine for quite a long time and was a great way to get online without the dial-up emulation crap. i have this problem too, and I also think it is a very severe regression. It makes my machine useless for me during travel. I have in principle found out how to create the connection without pand (some python script from the web), but the behavior is the same as with pand from the bluez-compat package: My phone asks me for authorization twice, and after I allow the first one my laptop aborts the connection with permission denied. This is really sad: An essential functionality for mobile users that has been working great for like the last three years is completely broken in the newest release, and stays that way 4months after the release is out! [Bug 334541] [NEW] networking disabled after resume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager After resume from suspend to RAM, network-manager is often in the Networking disabled state. This happens randomly maybe every 3rd time or so. This disables both wired and wireless interfaces, independent of which one was being used before the suspend. They are properly reenabled by clicking on Enable networking in nm-applet, so it seems like this is a different issue from e.g. Bug #279986, where people are unable to reenable networking after suspend. I guess this also means that it's probably not a kernel issue since the hardware behaves just fine after the resume. This is on a Thinkpad x61 Tablet with up-to-date 8.10. network-manager: Installed: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1.8.10.1 nm-applet 0.70 ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- networking disabled after resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 229020] Re: totem screensave allow works when option is disabled

[Bug 334556] [NEW] brightside fails to disable screen saver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brightside when choosing disable screensaver as a corner action, it doesn't work when the curser is moved into that corner. The little deactivating screensaver animation is displayed, but the screensaver still starts after the set time. This is on up-to-date 8.10. ** Affects: brightside (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- brightside fails to disable screen saver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 334563] [NEW] it is not possible to suspend the display before locking the screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver since all timeouts in power management can only be set to values larger than the screen saver activation time, it is impossible to have the screen blanked without locking it if one still wants to lock it during a longer absence. It should be possible to set those times independently, in fact I see no good reason for linking them the way they are. When my laptop is on battery, I typically want the screen to switch off to conserve battery, if I haven't pressed a button for two minutes or so (about the time it takes to read what is displayed on the screen in reasonable font size). But I don't want to have to type in a password every time I look away for slightly longer than those two minutes. However, I still want the screen locked if I'm actually away for some time (say 5minutes or more). [Bug 308470] [NEW] Tablet input is screwed up after rotation and subsequent suspend/hibernate on thinkpad x61
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: wacom-tools After rotating both screen and tablet input and then resuming, the stylus input is completely wrong. It still seems to have the right orientation, but the pointer appears several centimeters away from where the stylus touches the screen. The Touchscreen input still works as expected. This does not happen if I never use the rotation feature. I use the python script fom blog.aliencam.net to do the rotation. The problem can be fixed by starting the calibration feature of the wacomcpl utility. The procedure does not actually need to be successfully executed, the stylus input is fine as soon as the calibration button is being pressed. ** Affects: wacom-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Tablet input is screwed up after rotation and subsequent suspend/hibernate on thinkpad x61 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
