[Bug 964740] Re: WLAN Channel 13 not functional
I upgraded my HP5101 to 12.04 LTS and it has the latest updates of today the 24th of june 2012. The problem is still present. When I change the routers wireless channel to 13, the connection is severed and will not come up again, unless I go back to channel 11. Running Windows XP on the same computer channel 13 works fine, so it's not a hardware problem. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/964740 Title: WLAN Channel 13 not functional To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/964740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Also with the latest upstream kernel (3.3.0) my HP Mini Note exhibits this bug, i.e. WiFi channel 13 doesn't work under Ubuntu 11.10, although on channel 11 it is fine (under Windows XP channel 13 does function, so it's not a hardware limitation). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/964740 Title: WLAN Channel 13 not functional To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/964740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 964740] [NEW] WLAN Channel 13 not functional
Public bug reported: WLAN channels above 11 (2,4 GHz) do not work on an HP5101 Mini notebook, even though e.g. channel 13 works fine on the same machine and same WLAN network when the notebook runs Windows XP Home (dual boot). I've tried to change the setting in Linux that determines the range of channels for the WLAN card, but it didn't make a difference. (It's many months from experimenting with this setting, so unfortunately I forgot its name.) The notebook runs Ubuntu 11.10 and has been updated again this morning, but the problem is still there. My other HP4515s notebook running the same Ubuntu follows a channel change made at the WLAN router without problems. [Bug 742376] Re: OS freezes as soon as it recognizes an Ethernet cable being inserted
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected staging ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Running Natty alpha with the latest partial upgrades on an HP5101 Mini notebook. A wireless connection is properly established using driver brcm80211 (I deactivated the proprietary STA/wl driver manually). However as soon as I insert an Ethernet cable and the network connection switches to the Ethernet connection, the mouse cursor freezes. The on-off button doesn't bring up the shutdown menu any longer, but the only way to recover/shut down is to press the on-off button for a longer while. If I disable the wireless network prior to inserting the Ethernet cable, there is no problem. If I then remove the cable again and after that enable the wireless network, the switchover also works out well. This problem didn't exist when running Maverick Meerkat on this same computer. I have done several installs of Natty Alpha after Meerkat, the last being a complete reinstallation with all settings removed from my home directory. My reason for switching to Natty is that it incorporates a Broadcom wireless driver that works at high speed (130 Mb/s instead of just 2 Mb/s). The speed issue was indeed solved :-) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: gnome-panel 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-7.38-generic 2.6.38 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-7-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Mar 25 12:52:36 2011 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-panel GConfNonDefault: /apps/panel/general/applet_id_list=[trashapplet_screen0,workspace_switcher_screen0,window_list_screen0,show_desktop_button_screen0,applet_3,applet_4,applet_6,applet_0] /apps/panel/general/object_id_list=[object_0,object_1,object_2] /apps/panel/general/toplevel_id_list=[bottom_panel_screen0,top_panel_screen0] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Alpha i386 (20110315) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=nl:en LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-panel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-03-25 (0 days ago) + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog] +Subdevices: 2/2 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 +Subdevice #1: subdevice #1 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: arjen 1556 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC1: arjen 1556 F pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] Bestand of map bestaat niet + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xe828 irq 45' +Mixer name : 'Analog Devices AD1984A' +Components : 'HDA:11d4194a,103c3632,00100400' +Controls : 18 +Simple ctrls : 11 + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'default'/'C-Media INC. Re: [Bug 742376] Re: OS freezes as soon as it recognizes an Ethernet cable being inserted
Op 16-5-2011 20:10, David Conner schreef: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, this problem was reported against a development release of Ubuntu. Does the problem occur in the current release version of Ubuntu? ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete Thanks for asking! I have diligently applied all updates since I installed the development version. Today and yesterday there were no updates, which is very uncommon, but as far as I understand, the installation should be equivalent to a new installation of the current release version. The problem has persisted all the way. I have tested it every now and then. Within seconds from inserting an ethernet cable the mouse cursor and everything else, keyboard, freezes and the only way to get out of this is to press the on/off button for a long time and then switch the mininotebook back on restart Ubuntu. Removing the ethernet cable doesn't clear the error condition. If I switch off the wireless network in the applet menu, I can then plug in the ethernet cable and the ethernet connection is made without problems. I can switch back to wireless, too, so long as I remove the cable before enabling the wireless interface again (in the applet menu). What else can I say? If you need any specific info about my machine which was not in the original report, I can provide it. For Ubuntu internal data please give an indication of the appropriate command as I don't know these very well. I do know how to run them in a terminal window as root etc. The notebook is an HP 5101 with a Broadcom wireless card. It is now using the latest Broadcom driver afaik. Before Natty Narwhal under Ubuntu 10.10 I would not get any decent speed out of the wireless card. This was ascribed to the driver. I tried to install the latest driver, which necessitated a new kernel as well. On my other HP notebook (an HP4515s) with Ubuntu 10.10 this went OK, but I seem to remember it didn't work out so well on the mini notebook HP5101. (It is a bit daunting, not having done any such compiling/binding or whatever was necessary in Linux before.) The installation problems on the mini notebook were probably why I decided to install Natty before it was released. Now the wireless speed is OK on both machines, being 117-130 Mb/s on a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH router with 802.11n enabled instead of just 2 Mb/s before. However, it brought on this switchover problem on the mini notebook. Thanks again! [Bug 742376] [NEW] OS freezes as soon as it recognizes an Ethernet cable being inserted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Running Natty alpha with the latest partial upgrades on an HP5101 Mini notebook. The speed issue was indeed solved :-) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: gnome-panel 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-7.38-generic 2.6.38 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-7-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Mar 25 12:52:36 2011 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-panel GConfNonDefault: /apps/panel/general/applet_id_list=[trashapplet_screen0,workspace_switcher_screen0,window_list_screen0,show_desktop_button_screen0,applet_3,applet_4,applet_6,applet_0] /apps/panel/general/object_id_list=[object_0,object_1,object_2] /apps/panel/general/toplevel_id_list=[bottom_panel_screen0,top_panel_screen0] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Alpha i386 (20110315) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=nl:en LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-panel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-03-25 (0 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 natty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742376 Title: OS freezes as soon as it recognizes an Ethernet cable being inserted -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
Martin, Didn't you mean to write 'you need that updated VIDEO driver for the bug to go away'? I only mentioned the wireless driver, because Broadcom has a new version available. It is not generally available as an installation package for Ubuntu and it may not affect the bug of this thread at all, or then perhaps it does. Who would know? It would be nice to try, though. Broadcom wouldn't make a new version, if there weren't anything to improve or correct, would they? -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
There is a new STA driver on a Broadcom page: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php It would be nice to try that one. Maybe it solves everything ... The version I have installed (through the hardware driver widget on the menu) is 5.10.79.10. There are instructions for making? (=compiling?) a new driver that can be installed, but it is way over my head, unfortunately. I might break the whole installation. Like I wrote earlier, I have installed the patched driver, from the deb file, the same as Ole used. I just called it by the wrong name, a patch. It just didn't help. The connection problem still there. The wireless connection only stays up if I don't allow the machine to 'save power', e.g. by blanking the screen or going to sleep. If somebody is interested to see diagnostic output from my machine, I'm sure I can manage to post it as long as I know which command and which switches to use. -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
BTW, I also installed the new firmware for the wireless network card with b43.fw-cutter as indicated in the Hardware drivers item on the same menu as where the STA driver can be found after temporarily deactivating STA. I didn't notice any problems with updating the firmware, but it didn't do away with the problem of the wireless connection being dropped, either. I can't remember seeing any information as to what the firmware update is supposed to correct. -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
1. I'm unsure of what video driver my installation uses. 2. Today I figured I'd reinstall the patched driver, and then from the Firefox download screen I noticed that yesterday I had downloaded ( installed) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26403054/xserver-xorg-video-via_0.2.903%2Bsvn713-1ubuntu2%7Eppa3_i386.deb Judging from the name (VIA) it is not an openchrome driver. 3. Nevertheless, Synaptic showed that I already had an openchrome driver installed. 4. So next I downloaded installed http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26403053/xserver-xorg-video- openchrome_0.2.903%2Bsvn713-1ubuntu2%7Eppa3_i386.deb. 5. Changed power save settings and Rebooted. 6. Closed the lid and reopened. Screen comes back on and Hey Presto! The WLAN connection is still up! THANKS! Two questions left: a. How to check which video driver is actually in use? b. Any guess when we could expect the latest Broadcom driver for the 4312 chip to become available for installation through 'get-apt'? -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
I have experienced all the problems with the wireless connection on my HP2133 as described in this thread since installing 9.04 (from scratch). Following the advice in this thread, I have installed the patch (xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu2~ppa3_i386.deb), but I cannot find the src/via_lvds.c file. I've searched for via_lvds.c using sudo nautilus, I never installed openchrome as a screen driver, and adding the line driver vesa to xorg.conf causes malfunctioning of the display even before logon. (I booted from a Live-USB stick to put this right again.) My HP2133 runs Vista Home Basic 9.04, it has 2GB of RAM, a 160 GB disk with several partitions, 1024x600 screen resolution and the wireless card has the Broadcom 4312 chip. WLAN used to be ok on 8.04 and it also works in Vista (came with the machine, now dual-booting). Since a while the screen has developed a new feature, viz. upon minimizing a window, it 'zooms' to the edge displaying black wire-frames diminishing in size. I didn't set this, it just started doing it. Maybe this gives away which screen driver is actually in use. If output from particular commands is needed to describe the situation, I think I can manage that. I just don't know what information is needed. So, is it normal that I don't have the via_lvds.c file? Do I need to install openchrome to have this file? (The patch ran fine, though, as far as I know. No experience with installing patches here, though. Hey presto, it just ran and seemed to do what it is supposed to!) -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
