[Bug 299655] Re: [i965] Applications with a high number of frames or view movies in full screen mode causes jerking

2008-12-27 Thread Bastian Becker
Now I testing Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 and I have the same performance
issues. It *could* be the same problem as described in this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/303011

Moreover I have quite some graphical issues f.e. if I maximise a window
or view images in fullscreen mode. But this problem is not always
present, so it could be caused by the performance bug.

[Bug 299655] Re: [i965] Graphical issues with Intel GM965

2008-12-20 Thread Bastian Becker
Okay I've tested the newest driver 2.5.1 with Xorg 7.4 on Ubunt Intrepid
Ibex. The issues are now for 90% solved, only if I use an application
with a high number of frames or view movies in full screen mode, it
jerks. So this issue should be solved, but then I think it's perfect.

If you need more information, please ask for it.

[Bug 214234] Re: Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed

2008-11-29 Thread Bastian Becker
I've tested my HP Deskjet F2180 with Windows Vista and the original HP-
Drivers. What I can say is that the printing speed and quality of the
output is definitely better with the Vista-Driver unlike Ubuntu / HPLIP.
I've posted some months ago that the quality of the output could be
caused by my alternative printing ink. But thats definitely not the
point.

At this point, I doesn't understand why the windows drivers are so much
better than the HPLIP drivers? Does HP not working for HPLIP? How can it
be as different as day and night? If I look at the HPLIPOpenSource-
Website [1], the HP Deskjet F2180 should be fully supported!

In conclusion, it is most likely a driver issue, because the printing
quality is much better with Vista-drivers for the same document. Is
there any improvement possible in the near future?

@CrazySnowdog: Are you sure that the black color is as dark as it should
be? Do you changed any preferences?

[Bug 299655] [NEW] Graphical issues with Intel GM965

2008-11-18 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

I have several problems (since the desktop effects are available for
Intel GM965) with Compiz the X.org Intel driver. If I use the full
screen mode, i get graphical errors (for example in F-Spot), nothing is
clickable or bad effects are displayed. The easiest way to see what
appears is to view the video here:

Video: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2pria09s=4
Mirror: http://www.file-upload.net/download-1262964/out-2.ogv.html

Sometimes everything freezes, if I use 3d applications like XMBC and
view a video. I get no errors if I disable the desktop effects. The
problem appears since Gutsy Gibbon.

The lspci-output is attached.

2008-10-26 Thread Bastian Becker
Yes, I agree with Frederik. This icon isn't useful if you don't print or
do something with your HP printer. I can access the HP status easily by
clicking on System - Preferences - HPLIP Toolbox.

So it would be fine if there were an option to remove the icon from the
status tray.

[Bug 289450] [NEW] Wrong usplash resolution on Toshiba Satellite P200-1E9

2008-10-26 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

The resolution of the usplash at boot is wrong on my Toshiba Satellite
P200-1E9. By default, the resolution is set to 640 x 480, but it should
be 1440 x 900.

It's easy to fix the problem. Simply edit /etc/usplash.conf and include the

Compiz is activated by default on Hardy Heron. Most of the time, it

[Bug 214234] Re: Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed

2008-05-07 Thread Bastian Becker
Okay, it seems that the too-dark-color-problem is really caused by
the alternative ink and not by the driver. I can say this because I've
copied a text and picture combination from a magazine, and the colors
are also not well and to dark.

[Bug 214234] Re: Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed

2008-05-06 Thread Bastian Becker
Sorry, I'm a bit confused now. It's because I've tried to reproduce the
failure but I can't. I've printed three documents with 300 and 600 dpi,
black and color catridge and it works almost fine. Only the last one
makes some issues, but it could be caused by my alternative ink (the
others printouts are better and brighter; but in darker color than on
the screen; but, as I've said, it could caused by my alternative ink).

So I don't know where the problem really was. The printing speed is not
as good as with the windows driver, but that's not the point for me.
Could it be that the driver was passed on last time? I'm very suprised
and embarrassed about that.

I'm sure that I've test out all possibilities but it doesn't work
before. Now it does. Thanks for you help and sorry for the invested
time.

[Bug 214234] Re: Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed

2008-05-05 Thread Bastian Becker
Dave, as you can read in my posts before, its not only a feature
request. Some points (e.g. printing quality), is , whatever I choose,
not good and too slow. I don't think that a normal printing experience
is a feature request, and I don't know that printing without issues
should be a feature request. I think it should work out of the box.

[Bug 214234] Re: HP Deskjet F2180 print quality too low / slow printing

2008-05-03 Thread Bastian Becker
I can't understand why these problems are present. Today I've printed a
document (text picture), the picture quality was bad and the colors
are not strong. Secontly, the text wasn't original black, more blue-
black. Only if I use 600 DPI with black / color catridge, the black
color is fine but the colors are not strong.

What can I do?

[Bug 214234] Re: Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed

2008-05-03 Thread Bastian Becker
Hi Till,

thanks for your _very_ detailed posting. Even if I doesn't understand
all of the technical contents of your posting, I think that we're on the
right way. You, and the developers of the drivers should know that I try
to help (e.g. testing) wherever I can.

What I can say for now is that I use a black color catridge. But I think
you're right if you say that only the color catridge is in use. Today
I've printed a document with red and black text elements in landscape
format. In the line where the red and the black color was, the color
problems appear (for 1-3 lines). After these lines, the printing quality
was okay. If I use explicit the black catridge, it workes fast and looks
very well.

I hope somebody can fix this issues, because it's a big restriction.
Thanks for your help!

[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel

2008-04-13 Thread Bastian Becker
Before the updates, the timezone for my city was set wrong (for
Guetersloh - Europe / Amsterdam). After the update, no weather
information were shown. So I've simply choose Guetersloh again from the
list of cities and everything works well (also after restart). So I
think it is a big because of the updates and does not appear again.

[Bug 214234] [NEW] HP Deskjet F2180 print quality too low / slow printing

2008-04-08 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

I have several issues with my HP Deskjet F2180. The printer is working
out-of-the-box, but the following points are my issues:

- The print quality
It's too low if I use the the standard settings. The color is not really
strong, its more light like dark-grey. If I use the Setting High Resolution,
the problem appears also. If I use 300 DPI printout mode Black / Color the
black color is great and strong but the other colors are not. If I use 600 DPI,
the printer use too much ink, it has to dry a few seconds. So I can't use a
setting where all colors are strong.

- Printing speed
The printing speed is very bad. Only if I use the setting Draft he prints in
normal speed (but then there are color problems; see above). I know the
standard speed because I've used this printer with Windows before and it works
fine (colors speed).

- Size
There are problems with the size in printings, for example in OpenOffice if I
want to print a handout or in Firefox. He doesn't print the headline and the
footer. I use Din A4 standard paper and set this in HPLIP and ubuntu printer
settings as well. If I print normal documents with a headline and a footer, it
works fine.

If you need more information, please ask for it.

[Bug 198833] Re: OOo writer locks up the whole system

2008-04-07 Thread Bastian Becker
Oh I forget to answer to Chris' questions: I had the same problems while
using the LiveCD, but sometimes it freezes only if I ran the live CD,
not only by using OOo. But these problems are not always present, now
only if I use OOo...

I can't say if this is a problem of OOo or of something else which
depend on OOo?! Because a few weeks ago, sometimes the system freezes on
gnome-startup. So it could be a xorg problem?!

[Bug 198833] Re: OOo writer locks up the whole system

2008-04-07 Thread Bastian Becker
Hi, I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu Hardy with a Toshiba Satellite
P200-1E9 (Intel Core2Duo) and GM965 Graphics Controller.

I think it depends on OpenOffice.org because these freezes are often
cause while I use OOo Writer, Impress or something else. It could be a
problem of Compiz or my graphic card, but I'm not really sure where to
look. I can't find any useful information in the logs. What I can say is
that in the last time, all freezes happend while I use OOo.

[Bug 200111] [NEW] SCIM Help activated by default - cannot be closed

2008-03-09 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

Since the last updates, the SCIM-Help for special characters is
activated by default and shows a keyboard icon on the panel. If I want
to close it (rightclick on the panel icon), it appears again. Sometimes,
it switches the keyboard layout from German to something other (like
Chinese etc.) and I have to manually deactivate it.

To solve this problem, I've removed the packages scim and all related
packages. But I think that's not the best method. Why is it activated by
default and why I can't deactivate it? I think it is a bug but I'm not
really sure.

[Bug 194091] [NEW] Intel Wireless 4965AGN (iwl4965) network-manager doesn't work

2008-03-07 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

I have a Intel Wireless 4965 AGN chip. If I have installed a fresh copy
of Ubuntu, the first time I've start Ubuntu it works fine using the
Gnome Network-Manager and 4965 chip. But if I restart my computer, he
doesn't connect to my network. Some other problems with it:

* If I change or disconnect a wireless network, gnome-network-manager can't
connect
* No connection on startup
* No information about connectivity (80%, 90% and so on...)

It works only if I type in a terminal sudo modprobe -r iwl4965 and
then reinitialize the module. Then I have to type sudo ifdown wlan0
and sudo ifup wlan0, sometimes more than 5 times. If I type iwlist
scan he says No wireless networks found or he displays nothing about
my wlan-adapter. Now I use wicd instead of the gnome network-manager,
but sometimes wicd get also no connection and I have to restart my
computer or reinitialize the module.

[Bug 194080] [NEW] system freeze after login

2008-03-07 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

After gdm login, the System freezes sometimes after the gnome-panels are
loaded. I can only see a black desktop background and 2 grey panels at
the top and the bottom of the sceen. I don't know why this happend,
because it's happend not all the time. You can say, every 10 login the
system freezes after login. I can't do something (e.g. restarting
x-server, go into terminal...) and I have to hard-reset my notebook. It
could be happend because I've activated compiz (it seems to be on

sometimes problems with it...)

Ok, now it has a bit changed. Since the last updates, I have to type

1) What can I do to automate the manual network restart
2) When will it be fixed?

2008-02-29 Thread Bastian Becker

Only if I run 5 or more times sudo modprobe -r iwl4965 and sudo

know what the reason for this fault is.

[Bug 196084] [NEW] Hardy alternate install problem with dm-crypt luks

2008-02-27 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

Hi there, I've tried to install Hardy Alpha 5 with an alternate cd. But
I couldn't make a full system encryption.

Here are my steps:
1) I've deleted the whole partition table and made a new one
2) Make a new boot partition with ext3 for /boot with boot-flag
3) Make a new partition with encryption
4) Configure encrypted devices

First he set up the new boot partition. After that appears the problem
(something like this failure-message): Sorry, I can't configure the
encryption because there is system data left on the partition.

It only works with this steps:
1) Steps 12 above
2) Make a new partition with ext3 full formatting
3) Abort installation after successful formatting
4) Restart installation and change the ext3 partition to an encrypted device.

If you do the steps above, the failure doesn't appear. For your
information: There was no system data or any type of data left on my
hard drive / partition. If you need more information, feel free to ask.

2008-02-27 Thread Bastian Becker
Hi Matthew,

I've written a new partition table before I've made the new encrypted
partition. I think you made it like that:
1) New partition table - 2) create new boot partition - 3) create encrypted
partition

If you do it like that? If yes, you've done it like me... I don't know
where the fault is, because it works fine with Gutsy alternate.

[Bug 195774] [NEW] GDM login mask changed to wrong design

2008-02-26 Thread Bastian Becker
Public bug reported:

If you choose and install a login window (I mean a different login mask
/ design) first time, he often switch from the new selected to Circles
GNOME (the blue one with a sunflower and Face Browser) and Happy-Gnome.
He also activate the option Theme: Random selected.

This Bug appears only (and not always!) if you click on Close and
doesn't appear while activating or installing the new login mask. It
would be fine if some people can try to install a new GDM login mask
(e.g. from www.gnome-look.org) and can confirm this bug.

Workaround:
1) Download a GDM login mask (e.g. www.gnome-look.org)
2) Open System - Configuration (?) - Login window
3) Click on the Local tab - then click Add and choose the GDM mask you've
downloaded before
4) Activate it and then click on Close and logout.

If the wrong GDM mask appears, open the login window configuration GUI again
and change the option Random from selected to Selected only
and
- choose the right login mask. Now it works fine.

I haven't installed hplip from source but I could do it if you think that it
could be useful / helpful to bring this bug down ;-)

[Bug 156173] Re: Openoffice Impress 2.3 100% cpu use

2007-11-24 Thread Bastian Becker
Hi,

i can agree to this. I have the same problem. After a few minutes of
working with effects, soffice.bin uses 100% of my CPU.

Perhabs it's because of my ATI Radeon Mobility 7500? Compiz works very
fine, but Impress effects are slowly and not smooth. I don't understand
it.

My system: Ubuntu 7.10 i386, Intel P4 2,4 GHz, 512 MB RAM, OOo 2.3 - ATI
Radeon Mobility 7500

[Bug 160173] Re: Impress -effects cumulatively eat CPU

2007-11-24 Thread Bastian Becker
Hi @ all, i agree all of you. It's not very fine because I cant use
OpenOffice Impress to present / build Presentations, but I need it very
much.

I think it can have something to do with my ATI-Graphic (Radeon 7500
Mobility) chip. What do you have for a graphic chip?

But it's strange if I thought about that Compiz works fine...
