[Bug 1722152] [NEW] Bootloader install failed
Public bug reported: When installing from USB on a secondary SSD, with the bootloader set to be installed alongside windows boot manager, GRUB installation failed. Because I selected install directly from the USB key boot menu, I haven't been given the opportunity to examine logs to determine if this is a duplicate before submitting this. Despite what the bot says, apt-get upgrade does not automatically install kernel 3.2.0-18.28. One must manually install linux- image-3.2.0-18-virtual. The do-release-upgrade therefore still tries to install 3.2.0-17 and fails. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945424 Title: Precise kernel post-install fails in grub configuration in EC2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/945424/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 802331] [NEW] dmraid: Reads only from one half of a raid01 fakeraid setup
Public bug reported: I have a RAID01 fakeraid array set up using my Intel motherboard's RAID BIOS. Array initialization has already been completed. While dmraid detects this array and configures it properly, reads are issued only to one half of the RAID-1 pairs in the RAID01 array. dmraid should configure reads to be routed to both drives in each pair, to improve read performance. # dmraid -s -s *** Group superset isw_fbbcdgeig --> Active Superset name : isw_fbbcdgeig_daruma size : 3907041792 stride : 128 type : raid01 status : ok subsets: 2 devs : 4 spares : 0 --> Active Subset name : isw_fbbcdgeig_daruma-0 size : 1953520896 stride : 128 type : mirror status : ok subsets: 0 devs : 2 spares : 0 --> Active Subset name : isw_fbbcdgeig_daruma-1 size : 1953520896 stride : 128 type : mirror status : ok subsets: 0 devs : 2 spares : 0 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: dmraid 1.0.0.rc16-4.1ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-10.44-generic 2.6.38.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-10-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Jun 26 22:53:14 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Release amd64 (20110427.1) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: dmraid UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: dmraid (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug natty running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802331 Title: dmraid: Reads only from one half of a raid01 fakeraid setup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid/+bug/802331/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 802278] Re: xhci_hcd: Etron EJ168 controller unusable
I just tested the patches linked, on ubuntu-kernel natty tip (Ubuntu-2.6.38-10.44, cefe94dc5d171940edd23081d9d481dc1ed5824b). The two patches from gregkh's tree do indeed fix the xhci controller, and the gmane patch at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/48323 (suitably adapted for the version of xhci in the ubuntu tree) fixes suspend. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802278 Title: xhci_hcd: Etron EJ168 controller unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/802278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 450946] [NEW] Automatic plugin installation falsely claims that plugin does not provide needed filters
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem When playing back a h264/AAC video file, totem popped up the automatic plugin installer. After installing gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, it claimed that the packages were installed, but the requested codecs were not included. However after restarting totem, the video played back fine. Totem should not claim the codecs are not included without first reloading its mime-type database after installing new plugin packages. Or it should restart (or request that the user restart it) rather than making the user think the operation failed outright. [Bug 450504] [NEW] Keyboard and trackpad occasionally unusable after suspend
Public bug reported: On my Dell inspiron 1420, occasionally the keyboard and trackpad are unusable after suspend; I am thus unable to unlock the machine and must cut power and reboot. On Jaunty, I could recover from this by binding the power button to suspend, and re-suspending the machine - possibly pointing to a race on resume? however on Karmic this no longer works - the power button press is ignored at the unlock window. Note that this bug only occurs if you have zero killswitches when the applet starts up, so if your bluetooth adapter is internal, it's a good bet that you have that kind of pure-hardware killswitch if you experience this bug (and the killswitch is likely to be off when the applet starts...) -- bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_instance_get_private() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 445422] Re: bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_instance_get_private()
@Tormod: Does your bluetooth device still show up in lsusb when the killswitch is on? If not, it's probably implemented by just disconnecting the USB connection to the bluetooth hardware rather than a killswitch as bluetooth-applet considers them. Unfortunately I don't have any hardware with any accessible killswitch whatsoever here so I don't know what the correct behavior is :/ -- bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_instance_get_private() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've put a version of the package with my patch (effectively the same one I posted to upstream's bugzilla; slightly different from the one in this thread as it disables the killswitch-disabling logic in main as well) in my PPA at: https://edge.launchpad.net/~bdonlan/+archive/test/+packages It'd be helpful if some people could give it a test - in particular, make sure your bluetooth RF killswitches still work after this! -- bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_instance_get_private() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 445422] Re: bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_instance_get_private()
The bug seems to stem from the fact that bluetooth_killswitch_init in lib/bluetooth-killswitch.c sets up an IO watch, but bluetooth_killswitch_finalize doesn't clean it up. As such, when the event actually does come, event_cb goes and uses a freed object handle and promptly explodes. Attached is a patch that solves this problem, but I think there's another, more fundamental bug here; if the bluetooth dongle isn't plugged in at startup, it seems to deinitialize killswitch handling permanently. For example, if I start it up with the dongle in, then unplug the dongle: ** Message: adding killswitch idx 22 state 1 ** Message: Reading of RFKILL events failed ** Message: killswitch 22 is 1 ** Message: killswitches state 1 ** Message: killswitch 22 is 1 ** Message: killswitches state 1 ** Message: RFKILL event: idx 22 type 2 op 1 soft 0 hard 0 ** Message: removing killswitch idx 22 ** Message: killswitches state 1 But if I start with it out, then plug it in and remove it: ** Message: Reading of RFKILL events failed ** Message: killswitches state 1 Perhaps the killswitch-unreffing in main.c:990 should be removed as well? I'm not familiar enough with the code to know if this is the right approach, though. ** Attachment added: "fix-killswitch-unref.patch" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33466769/fix-killswitch-unref.patch ** Tags added: patch -- bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_instance_get_private() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There are a number of compiler failures (likely due to newer versions of G++ being more strict about header includes and the like), and currently stepmania looks for its data directories in the directory containing its binary. The latter needs a real solution before any packaging happens - should shared data directories be in /usr/share? Then users wouldn't be able to install songs and themes. There'll need to be a way to merge the system- wide directories with the per-user ones; and also a place to put the per-user ones (a dotfile works, but it's a non-obvious place to go looking for the songs directory). Any ideas on where the per-user directories ought to go? -- [needs-packaging] StepMania https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 340269] [NEW] Incorrect wcwidth() result for characters in the enclosed alphanumerics block
Public bug reported: Glibc's wcwidth() returns 1 for characters in the enclosed alphanumerics block (U+2460 to U+24FF). However, monospace fonts seem to assume these characters are wide characters. The result is programs which rely on the width data being inaccurate (eg, urxvt) cannot render characters such as ⑨. To demonstrate this problem, simply open up urxvt and try to paste in ⑨. You will see it rendered as a broken character block. You can work around this by adding another font with a small font size, or you can use the attached LD_PRELOAD library to see the character rendered properly once wcwidth() returns the right value of 2. I'd be happy to roll a patch to fix this if someone can point me in the right direction - I've been poking around the glibc source and can't seem to find the unicode attribute tables... ** Affects: glibc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Incorrect wcwidth() result for characters in the enclosed alphanumerics block https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340269 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP
Really, the answer is simple. If firefox cannot be modified to remove the EULA and then distributed legally by Ubuntu, it is simply not free software. Thus it should be in restricted or multiverse, and subject to the same reduced support. In particular, the default installation should not install it. The fact that the restrictions come from trademark and not copyright law is irrelevant - the result is that modifications are not legal without first removing the non-free (ie, trademarked) content. It is thus an equivalent situation to having a mix of GPL'd code and proprietary code mixed together, made legal in that exact (unmodified) form by the blessing of the GPL code's copyright holder. While this may be legal to redistribute according to some separate license, this doesn't make it even remotely free software. -- AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
