[Bug 1905054] Re: Firefox 83 Breaks WebGL

[Bug 1947257] Re: Partial profile loss on upgrade from 21.04 to 21.10
I upgraded from 21.04 to 21.10. Other (non-sudo) users of the computer reported that their Firefox profiles were lost. I uninstalled the snap firefox, and installed deb firefox via apt. Their profiles "came back". I guess the snap firefox looks for profiles in a different location, and the profiles aren't transferred from the old deb-firefox location to the snap-firefox-expected location. [Bug 1892712] [NEW] Printing garbage to Brother HL-L2375DW printer
Public bug reported: Starting a few weeks ago, sometimes trying to print ends up printing pages and pages of garbage/junk/mojibake. It's not all the time. Printer drivers are somewhat mysterious, because if I delete them, they automatically reappear. Often a program will list two printer drivers for the one printer, and one of them prints okay while the other prints garbage, and it's not at all obvious which is which. This affects two Ubuntu PCs, one a desktop running Ubuntu 20.04.1, the other a laptop running Lubuntu 20.04.1. The printer is on the network. I guess the computers find it via Zeroconf. The problem seems to be Ubuntu, rather than the printer, because printing from a Windows PC works fine. And, for months, printing from Ubuntu also worked fine. I also noticed earlier, several months back, that double-sided printing was misbehaving, always flipping on the short edge rather than the long edge, no matter which was selected. Short edge is the setting I usually don't want -- the other side is effectively upside down. I have also noticed that selecting 2 or more copies doesn't print multiple copies, but just one copy. ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: printer -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892712 Title: Printing garbage to Brother HL-L2375DW printer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1892712/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 369008] Re: mdns lookups fail over ipv6
Debugging the case of scope ID == 0 when family is set to AF_INET6... I'm finding that when family is set to AF_INET6, then _nss_gethostbyname2_r is called instead of _nss_gethostbyname4_r. This decision is made by libresolv. I did 'apt-get source libc6', which got me eglib-2.17 source (this is on Ubuntu 13.10 at the moment). In sysdeps/posix/getaddrinfo.c, I indeed see that it's only calling _nss_gethostbyname4_r when family is set to AF_UNSPEC. A comment says gethostbyname4_r sends out parallel A and queries and is thus only suitable for PF_UNSPEC. So that looks like a clash of requirements: a) _nss_gethostbyname4_r is needed for IPv6 scope ID b) _nss_gethostbyname4_r is allegedly not suitable for IPv6-only queries, because it sends out parallel A and queries. Surely _nss_gethostbyname4_r SHOULD be used in order to get IPv6 scope ID. [Bug 369008] Re: mdns lookups fail over ipv6
In eglibc SVN repository revision 20392, Tue Aug 28 14:14:43 2012 UTC, the getaddrinfo() code was changed to call _nss_gethostbyname4_r only for family AF_UNSPEC. The commit comment just says Merge changes between r20213 and r20391 from /fsf/trunk. Looking at /fsf/trunk/libc/sysdeps/posix/getaddrinfo.c, I trace it to revision 20296. The commit comment just says Import glibc-mainline for 2012-08-23. This I trace to glibc commit 8479f23aa1: http://repo.or.cz/w/glibc.git/commit/8479f23aa1d5e5477a37f46823856bdafaedfa46 I think this commit is ultimately problematic because it breaks IPv6 scope ID retrieval. I think it should be reverted, so that _nss_gethostbyname4_r is always called for IPv6. [Bug 369008] Re: mdns lookups fail over ipv6
I've tried applying the patch. I can confirm via Python socket.getaddrinfo() that the IPv6 scope ID is now being set. So that seems to be a good fix. However, if I try ping6 or ssh -6 to my own PC craig-linux.local, I still get an Invalid argument error: $ ping6 craig-linux.local connect: Invalid argument $ ssh -6 craig-linux.local ssh: connect to host craig-linux.local port 22: Invalid argument But this works: $ ping6 -I eth2 craig-linux.local PING craig-linux.local(fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2) from fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2 eth2: 56 data bytes ... If I strace it, I see: connect(3, {sa_family=AF_INET6, sin6_port=htons(1025), inet_pton(AF_INET6, fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2, sin6_addr), sin6_flowinfo=0, sin6_scope_id=0}, 28) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) So the scope ID is still set to 0. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369008 Title: mdns lookups fail over ipv6 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nss-mdns/+bug/369008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 369008] Re: mdns lookups fail over ipv6
Okay I think I've found a problem with getaddrinfo() when the AF_INET6 family is specified. For example, Python's socket.getaddrinfo() provides scope ID if _all_ families are looked-up, but it returns scope ID of 0 if only IPv6 family is looked up. E.g. in Python: import socket from pprint import pprint a = socket.getaddrinfo(craig-linux.local, None) pprint(a) [(10, 1, 6, '', ('fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2%eth2', 0, 0, 3)), (10, 2, 17, '', ('fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2%eth2', 0, 0, 3)), (10, 3, 0, '', ('fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2%eth2', 0, 0, 3)), (2, 1, 6, '', ('192.168.5.3', 0)), (2, 2, 17, '', ('192.168.5.3', 0)), (2, 3, 0, '', ('192.168.5.3', 0))] a = socket.getaddrinfo(craig-linux.local, None, socket.AF_INET6) pprint(a) [(10, 1, 6, '', ('fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2', 0, 0, 0)), (10, 2, 17, '', ('fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2', 0, 0, 0)), (10, 3, 0, '', ('fe80::21b:21ff:febb:73b2', 0, 0, 0))] So for some reason the scope ID is present when doing all-families look- up, but lacking in the IPv6-only family look-up. ping6 fails because it is specifying AF_INET6. I've got a test server listening on both IPv4 and IPv6. If I connect to it with telnet craig-linux.local 12100 then it is able to connect successfully to the IPv6 address. But if I specify the -6 switch, telnet -6 craig-linux.local 12100 then it fails to connect. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369008 Title: mdns lookups fail over ipv6 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nss-mdns/+bug/369008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 912695] Re: libpam_blue requires root, fails if non-privileged
I've sorted it out now. Sorry, I was doing something stupid. I had thought it was working but I was still actually running the original pam-blue. I thought it was working because I had solved a separate issue -- my Bluetooth device had a space in the name, and I couldn't figure out how to configure that in /etc/security/bluescan.conf. I removed the space in the device name on my Bluetooth device (an iPhone), then it worked, but still with the original pam-blue, except for lock screen. So what I was missing was to compile and install with the proper configure options, so the module goes into /lib/security: ./configure --libdir=/lib/security make sudo make install -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912695 Title: libpam_blue requires root, fails if non-privileged To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpam-blue/+bug/912695/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is pam_blue maintained? It's looking a bit dead at the moment. How can we contribute patches upstream or to continue development in Debian/Ubuntu? According to the Ubuntu package, the web site is http://pam.0xdef.net/ but that is not responding, at least not at the moment. Would it be possible to patch l2ping to work if a non-root user is a member of e.g. bluetooth group? ilpara -- as for how to investigate this bug, here are two ideas: 1) Compare the output of dpkg -l (or whatever the command is to list installed packages and versions) on good and bad installations. 2) Someone tell us how to get a crash trace from OpenOffice (since the instructions for using apport didn't work). I'm an embedded software engineer which means I know the theory and practice of debugging on embedded platforms, but I've never really done programming/debugging for Linux so far. The only package I can think of that may be unusual in my installation is java. I've been trying to get jEdit, JBidWatcher and Firefox java plugins working, and I've got strange results from a few of the packages I've installed (icedtea, java5, java6 something like that).
