[Bug 1088588] [NEW] plasma network manager doesn't prompt for password on vpnc connections
Public bug reported: [Impact] My co worker has a vpnc connection that requires authentication using a token app, it seems that even if it just requires a regular password the issue would be the same. [Bug 1003090] Re: Please enable HID_BATTERY_STRENGTH (on xorg-edgers and quantal kernel packages)
Hi, first thanks for looking into this, it's been a while with no activity. for #2 I'm not sure why HID must be build in, actually the config part of the patch wasn't added by me, I just did the reverse engineering making sure it worked fine for my Apple bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Track pad, on the thread another guy with a mouse from a different brand reported it worked fine. For #3 the problem was that they enabled the feature but didn't upgrade upower, which had some fixes made by me and ones made by Richard. also starting from 3.4 it power_supply has a scope feature to avoid the confusion. So since Quantal has an up to date upower it will went fine. It got disabled by default so at that time user space didn't get broken. Now I can say it's safe to enable it. So it's a feature users with devices that have this capability will be quite happy :) Also about the RH bug I just confirmed and their 3.5 kernel in F17 has it enabled by default again. And well from your grep it shows CONFIG_HID=m will make it not work, the problem is that I don't understand the kernel config system so I really dunno why this was done, maybe it could be changed to allow having it when using HID as a module. [Bug 929862] Re: apper-sentinel blocks DBUS for 10-60 seconds
If the two process stays for a long time time is why it's blocking. KUniqueApplications (the ones that run only one at time) starts a process, check if no other one is running and fork itself (why you see 2 of them), after this the first should close, as the DBus calls where blocking, while the first process is running it will block the calling process till a timeout or it finishes... it shouldn't be slow to start the apper-sentinel and I never saw this issue in my machine but some users complained... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929862 Title: apper-sentinel blocks DBUS for 10-60 seconds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apper/+bug/929862/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

At least with packagekit-backend-aptcc the list is shown 6. There is no way to use APT advanced features such as 'hold, mark manual, force version' etc. And there won't be since those things are for advanced users, which is not the target of PackageKit. [Bug 425280] Re: [lucid] kpackagekit waxes all Internet bandwidth until reboot
As I have told you more than once. This bug and the printing bug forced me to upgrade to 10.10. I know longer have an LTS installation. Most of the others who were faced with this issue moved to OpenSuSE. But this is exactly what I want, I'm not a packager, I have very little time and I prefer to code, the version of PackageKit + KPackageKit + packagekit-qt + python-apt-backend on LTS has a bunch of bugs, especially one in pk-qt that the old maintainer didn't fix nor cared to fix. I don't have the time to fix PackageKit friends of 0.5 version. So all I'm asking is to test in 10.10 which you already have. If a packager want's to expend time trying to fix the 0.5 no problem for me, but pk- qt, aptcc and kpackagekit in the 0.6 is what I care since it's what I can maintain. 10.10, has already some very important bugs fixes. Do what you want in closing this bug. It is in the LTS release and will be driving the bulk of people who try KUbuntu to OpenSuSE. I want close this bug with a fix, I just need you help. I'm not a paid professional of cannonical, nor do I know if PackageKit is an LTS product either way I don't have the time to work on that release unfortunately. I'm working on a new printer management for kde so my time is short. So please just try or install and try and tell in 10.10 how is it going. [Bug 425280] Re: [lucid] kpackagekit waxes all Internet bandwidth until reboot
Please stop replying and close this bug if you are not willing to help. We asked you several times for you to TRY again. We know that GPRS, Dial-up friends might have your problem, but it's really hard to backport to the LTS, also only you reported the problem (no matter if your friends had it too, in the whole world only you reported) and the problem was only seen by me now. I do agree with you with one thing, KPackageKit was beta whey it got pushed into Kubuntu, imo that was a bad choice, the python backend had several bugs (and KPackageKit too of course) which is why it got a much better acceptance in Fedora when it came out. But software evolves and now I can say that it's not beta anymore, and it's really good, I do use it daily and it has now a very good acceptance. One thing that for the future release I wan't to do is to detect when on GPRS, Dial up and don't check for updates or try to check for updates. And limit the download bandwidth usage, but this is future, and this is the only moment of life you can get future earlier. By paying me! Unless you are an old person you would do that lol Now about your bug, first you need to understand one thing, Synaptic, update-manager, python-apt, aptcc, apt-get and aptitude they all share the same piece of code that goes and download things, which is libapt. Now python apt backend probably had a bug regarding canceling transactions, which we never saw because of our bandwidth, and as I don't have such internet connection I could limit my router to give me just 54kbps but that wouldn't make me 100% sure, because you have the environment that had always given you trouble. So please be kind an test it, you will just need a reboot in case of the bug appearing, and in that case please go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and tell us your speed so we can try to improve the software. [Bug 425280] Re: kpackagekit waxes all Internet bandwidth until reboot
Well current PackageKit can't be backported to Kubuntu 10.04. The current backend is pretty different from the one used in 10.04. So please instead of blaming the software test the new version. If you DO develop software from the last 25 years you should know by now that developing such a generic software is by no means a simple thing, Yes it has it's problems but we are working on it. Also before you start saying that this project is a TOTAL FAILURE you should consider that saing this things on launchpad won't always fix software, this bug was reported more than one year ago, and I (KPackageKit and aptcc author) just saw it now since I switched from Debian to Kubuntu. -- kpackagekit waxes all Internet bandwidth until reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/425280 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 454424] Re: KPackageKit can't resolve dependencies and recommends Synaptic or Aptitude
First it is important to note that resolving deps is not KPackageKit task, it is the backend's. aptcc (default in Maverick), does what apt-get does when a dep problem happens, it shows to the user why that happened. The user just need to read and take the proper action. Aptitude and Synaptic are very close to apt which is why it easier to suggest changes (not counting the AI that aptitude has...). IMO this is a closed bug (for aptcc), otherwise apt-get should be included too :P -- KPackageKit can't resolve dependencies and recommends Synaptic or Aptitude https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/454424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481530] Re: Crash searching w/ Cyrillic characters
Can you please try using the 10.10 version to see if aptcc backend fails too? -- Crash searching w/ Cyrillic characters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481530 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 354140] Re: Installation problem with installation of digikam under Kubuntu Jaunty Beta
I guess this bug could be closed, as aptcc (default backend) has the same resolution code as apt-get. -- Installation problem with installation of digikam under Kubuntu Jaunty Beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/354140 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 662499] Re: Misleading error dialog in KPackageKit
Right, I need to add a new message enum to PackageKit so that aptcc can use that. -- Misleading error dialog in KPackageKit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
