James, I believe that's a different issue. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 with
gphoto2 2.5.3, and I still have this problem.

GIMP: Could not
Instead of killing gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor (which keeps coming
back), I removed its executable flag - that fixed the problem for good.
Now I can reliably download images via Shotwell.

Same problem with a USB 2 port (this is on a Sony VAIO laptop that has
two USB3 and one USB2 ports).
Here is the log, taken from Ubuntu 13.04 using USB2.
Btw, I've opened a ticket for this on SF as well:

Same problem with a Canon 40D on Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, and the latest
13.04 build. Worked fine under 32-bit Ubuntu. Seems to be an amd64
problem. gphoto logfile is attached.
** Attachment added: gphoto-canon40d.log
(Need to clarify my previous comment - seems to be a problem in gphoto
that only shows itself in 64-bit builds.)

GIMP: Could not mount
As of Ubuntu 12.04 with 3.2.0-27-generic, this is still an issue. Is
there any way to check whether or not xorg contains the patch?

Brad - as a superuser, simply edit the file /etc/rc.local and add the
line I posted in comment #6 to the bottom. (For example, enter sudo
nano /etc/rc.local from a terminal, if you have nano installed).

I added the command to /etc/rc.local (without the sudo, of course). Not
the best place, but it does the trick.

Public bug reported:
The keyboard backlight on my Sony Vaio has been working ever since I
installed 10.04. Since the upgrade to 11.10, the backlight no longer
comes on. (Judging by forum comments, this problem does not seem to be
specific to Sony laptops).
I can still enable the backlight by

@mabawsa: I haven't had problems since then either. I hadn't been doing
a lot of big transfers (which usually expose the problem), but not a
single problem in over a month makes me believe that the bug has indeed
been fixed.

Intel WiFi connection stops working under load with wpa2
Public bug reported:

Whenever I transfer a lot of data (typically FTP), the wireless
connection randomly dies. It doesn't drop, the system still thinks the
connection is fine, but there is simply no further data coming in. At
that point, I have to go to the

This problem seems to persist on 10.4, I'm having it on a Sony Vaio

bugs/questions/posts, but nothing helped.
I can provide additional debugging information, but as per #22, it
sounds like this bug is stale. Is there an open bug
