[Bug 1152894] [NEW] Right click while dragging breaks mouse cursor

2013-03-09 Thread Erik S
Public bug reported:

I'm using Xubuntu 12.10 with gthumb 3.1.2

~$ gthumb --version
gthumb 3.1.2, Copyright © 2001-2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

When I move (with click and holding the left mouse key) within a picture and
accidentally click the right mouse button, the mouse cursor keeps that
grabbing hand-icon and nothing is clickable anymore.
The whole screen looks frozen. No mouse-hover effects, no reaction to clicks,
and nearly no possibility to return.

An easy workaround on XFCE 4.10 (maybe also on other desktops): Switch
to another workspace with keyboard-shortcuts. The mouse will be fine
again.

[Bug 986524] Re: radeon 0000:02:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 10000msec

2013-02-05 Thread Erik S
This problem is still reproducible (I'm still using obiaf's PPA).

But I got a new clue: Lockups only occur, when I start graphic-heavy
stuff (games, OpenGL, ... but not: Flash on Youtube or other media
playback) with power-profile set to low on my card (HD 3650). Doing
the same things on high causes no problems. I can even trick some
Lockups with quick-switching from low to high-profile, when my mouse
freezes and the screen starts blanking...

That's my workaround for now ;)

[Bug 1064019] Re: SuperTuxKart crash on Kubuntu 12.10

2012-11-25 Thread Erik S
Running (and crash) supertuxkart with gdb produces this backtrace line:

irr::scene::CSkinnedMesh::recoverJointsFromMesh(irr::core::arrayirr::scene::IBoneSceneNode*,
irr::core::irrAllocatorirr::scene::IBoneSceneNode* ) ()

It's the same as Dima Zag posted in the file from post #2

Running the game from sourceforge seems to fix this problem

[Bug 1082718] [NEW] XFCE should catch keybindings before other applications

2012-11-24 Thread Erik S
Public bug reported:

I realized this bug quite accidentally.
I wrote a small program and a script, to toggle the volume on my hardware wheel
fast. The script (changes volume via amixer set...) gives the current volume
to my application which then messages my daemon to show the volume as a
notify-osd message.

The daemon just calls the required methods to show the notification
bubble. The basic idea was to keep the bubble alive, whereas calling
another notify-application more than once produces more bubbles...

Long story... Now my point:

When controlling the volume on the blank desktop it's fast and smooth.
But trying the same with an active instance of leafpad, banshee or
(the most clearly example) gedit the controlling is slow and sluggish
(screencapture attached...).

In some games, the keybindings have no effect at all.

It seems like the xfce-keyboard-listener-daemon (or whatever ;) )
doesn't listen on the keyboard as the first application. Consequently,
other applications like gedit or tuxracer (game) get the keyboard-
events first and (mostly) ignore them.

I'm using XFCE 4.10 installed with Xubuntu 12.10.

[Bug 986524] Re: radeon 0000:02:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 10000msec

2012-11-17 Thread Erik S
No good news for me...

Today my system crashed 2 times while running the radeon-driver and
supertuxkart (both from oibaf's repository)...

But I found (at least for me) a way to reproduce a freeze:
1. Start system.
2. Open terminal and type supertuxkart. Install this, if you havent done
yet...
3. Enter and klick through the menu of new race...
4. Start playing and wait for freeze
5. Black screen every 10 seconds
6. (Try to get a running tty and save some log-files)

Have you experienced just one lockup, or have you had a series of these
lockups?
 - Mostly a series of lockups until I reboot my laptop. Sometimes even the
kernel freezes...
 - With the stock radeon-driver 5-10 times a week. With oibaf's packages only
with some applications (without them 0 times a week ;) )

When did you first notice it?
 - After deleting my old Ubuntu, and reinstalled Xubuntu

Under what conditions does it seem most likely to reproduce?
 - Start some OpenGL-heavy application/games (like supertuxkart) and play a
bit around.
 - Even 10 seconds after boot up, this can occur. So: No relation to
Suspend-to-Any.

I will try to get some backtraces... But somebody tell me please, where
should I start? :)

It occurs randomly and only in some single tabs. Sometimes the Home-key puts

[Bug 986524] Re: radeon 0000:02:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 10000msec

2012-11-12 Thread Erik S
I did'nt had this issue with Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04. 3 weeks ago I deleted all
partitions and set up a brand new Xubuntu 12.10. These lockups occur randomly.
Some of them blank the screen just once (with the 10sec of no-mouse-reaction
before), the other ones keep blanking the screen every 10 secs, tty# works,
but you're not able to get back a running system...
They only occur when I try to open/run graphic-heavy applications
(Youtube-video, openGL-Games,...).

Yesterday it took me 3 hard resets and then I installed the PPA (comment
#20) with:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

No more problems yesterday and today (til now)... Thanks for this, I'll
keep testing ;)

2012-11-04 Thread Erik S
The number of minutes to wait til your PC goes sleeping is set in the
xfconf-database.

Easily accessable via - Settings - settings editor (under other) -
(on the left side) xfce4-power-manager - key: inactivity-on-ac and
inactivity-on-battery

I set ...on-ac to 1 and my laptop goes to sleep after 1 minute ;)

[Bug 1013945] Re: Let user select a time of less than 15 mins idle before going to sleep

2012-11-04 Thread Erik S
So, it's just the way how the settings-GUI is showing you this value.

When set to never - the key from xfconf disappears
When set to #a number# - the key represents the minutes to wait until
sleeping

If you look in the source (- http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-power-
manager/tag/?id=xfce4-power-manager-1.2.0), you'll see that a value
equal to 14 will set the timeout to never. Written in the xfpm-
manager.c-file

[Bug 26662] Re: using the filename to get the mimetype is not always correct

2012-11-04 Thread Erik S
This bug still exists... try the following:

touch a.b
tar -cf aTarFile a.b

Now you have a tar-file. Trying to open it in file-roller will produce
an error.

file aTarFile
 aTarFile: POSIX tar archive (GNU)

Renaming the archive to any uncompressable file-type (like *.zip,
*.lzma, *.7z, ... or just *.tar) will give you a file which can now be
opened by file-roller, even though this is just a tar-file.

[Bug 1034801] [NEW] mount is running continously at 100%

2012-08-09 Thread Erik S
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 precise with kernel 3.2.0-27 generic-pae on a
i686 Intel Dual Core.

Whenever I start with this or the -26 kernel, the process called mount
is running continously at 100% in top. I cannot kill or stop this
process in any way, not even as root.

When running on 3.2.0-25 or -24 everything is fine. The output of:

erik@erik-Satellite-A300:~$ ps -e | grep mount ###on 3.2.0-27
  296 ?00:00:00 mountall
  945 ?00:02:47 mount

erik@erik-Satellite-A300:~$ ps -e | grep mount ###on 3.2.0-24
  281 ?00:00:00 mountall

I have some ntfs-mounts in my fstab, but removing them don't solve the problem.
I tried it like this:

erik@erik-Satellite-A300:~$ cat /etc/fstab
proc/proc procnodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
#Entry for /dev/sda4 :
UUID=2ac421c1-720c-433e-a05c-0f43c8eea18d   /   ext4

#Entry for /dev/sdb6 :
UUID=0bc6b74e-65d6-4f57-9c18-62d3bccf0d7d   noneswapsw  0   0

[Bug 998168] Re: Switching workspaces causes graphic issues

2012-05-12 Thread Erik S
** Description changed:

This problem occurs since my update from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 with
  Unity 5.12 and Compiz 0.9.7.8:

When I switch through my workspaces (6 workspaces: 2 rows with 3
destops) I can see for some milliseconds a window which is neither on
the workspace switching from nor on the workspace switching to. But in
the same row, when I switch horizontally.

  Example:
  Row 1:
  Workspace 1: firefox
  Workspace 2: //nothing
  Workspace 3: thunderbird

  Row 2:
  Workspace 4: //nothing
  Workspace 5: skype + empathy
  Workspace 5: banshee

- And now: When I switch from 1 to 2 I can see parts of the Thunderbird window
but just for a very very short time. Thunderbird even appears on the switcher
preview (Desktop Wall plugin in Compiz) for a short moment...
+ And now: When I switch from 1 to 2 I can see parts of the Thunderbird window
but just for a very very short time. Thunderbird even appears on the 2.
Workspace on the switcher preview (Desktop Wall plugin in Compiz) for a short
moment...
  Same for 2 - 3; 4 - 5; 5 - 6 and the other way around. But not when I
switch to another row (e.g: 1 - 4)

I took some interesting screenshots. It seems like all windows switch to
their left workspace for a millisecond... (see screenshot 2)
The windows and workspaces on the screenshots are equal to ones noted above.

[Bug 785822] Re: Banshee does not remove selected song from playlist

2012-05-11 Thread Erik S
Still present in banshee 2.4.0 with Ubuntu 12.04:

But I found out, which song is deleted ;) Maybe this will help to fix
the issue:

When you add different songs, albums to a non-smart play list or to the
play-queue, and don't shuffle or sort by anything else than the Title ID
(the very left column), the selected song or songs will be removed
correctly. But(!) when you shuffle or sort Banshee won't delete a random
item from the list: It deletes the item, which was on this position on
the initial sorting.

Example:
1. Clear the play-queue
2. Add different songs to the queue with dragdrop
3. Open the queue (don't sort or shuffle) and select one songs and delete it
(should work properly)
4. Select multiple songs (still not sorted or shuffled) and delete them (still
works properly)
5. Now look on the (example:) 3rd item and memorize this item.
6. Shuffle or sort the list and make sure, your memorized item is NOT on the
previous position.
7. Now select the 3rd (your initial) item and delete it
- This shouldn't work, instead your memorized item should be removed.

Can anyone prove me wrong or confirm my ideas?

[Bug 871133] Re: Ubuntu Oneric Volume Step Can Not be Changed

2012-01-15 Thread Erik S
I found a workaround :D
With the command, you can control the volume: amixer set Master 1- (lower),
amixer set Master 1+ (higher)
This commands can be set for the special keys you want: System Settings -
Keyboard - Shortcuts - Custom Shortcuts
Here you have to create two new entries: 1. Name: VolumeUp, Command: amixer set
Master 2+ (I think '1' is too slow for change). The second one for VolumeDown.
Then set the key for running this command by clicking on the line and type,
scroll or whatever you want to use for volume-control.

The only thing which don't work is the quick-notifying (this bubble in the
top-right corner) which shows the change of the volume.
But now it works smooth as hell :)

[Bug 913521] [NEW] After using mipmaps for effects, windows stop refreshing

2012-01-08 Thread Erik S
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu (11.10), Compiz (1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6), fglrx
(2:8.881-0ubuntu4.1) and everytime I select use mipmaps on any effect, like
switching workspaces or desktop-cube, something strange happens: After using
this effect once, I can click on one of the displayed windows, but I don't see
the respone of this window (hover-effects, progress-bars don't move on, the
window shows just the picture like it was before using this effect).
How I fixed it before: Maximize and resize all windows once
How I fixed it now: Deactivate use mipmaps on all effects.

Will there be a bugfix? Can I fix it on another way? Because with
mipmaps (=anti-aliasing) it looks much cooler :D

[Bug 870930] Re: sound from all programs becomes metallic/robotic / highly corrupted

2011-10-13 Thread Erik S
I just have a small work-around:
If it is possible (RAM 2GB), you can set the swappiness lower. The steps are
shown here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq#What_is_swappiness_and_how_do_I_change_it.3F

[Bug 832092] Re: zeitgeist-daemon crashed with DBusException in call_blocking(): org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Disconnected: Connection was disconnected before a reply was received

2011-10-11 Thread Erik S
@David:
what is the best way to reproduce the issue?
No idea. As I said, the error occurs without doing anything...

is it happening every time you restart and open a session?
Since a few days, it seems to be OK. But a week ago, it happened three times
in a row (after 3 logins ;) )

are you using autologin?
  No.

Maybe some others have this problem too, but it doesn't affect me
anymore.
