I've noticed that, since the update to kernel 3.19.0-23, SDDM only shows
a black screen instead of the usual login screen. It, however, works
flawlessly on 3.19.0-22.
I've also noticed that the nvidia module is absent from lsmod in
3.19.0-23 onwards, but present in 3.19.0-22,
I've installed kernel 3.19.0-25, and now it's not enough to remove the
quiet option even in 3.19.0-22. I have to manually edit the grub menu
entry at boot time (writing it on grub.cfg doesn't work) and replace the
following lines:
if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
Not at all. This is a clean install so the earliest kernel version is
3.19.0-15 which has this bug.

No, I only have Quantal on my laptop (and I'm forced to use the Precise kernel
on that). On my other machine I still have precise, but I installed (and
immediately uninstalled) the newer kernel.

switch from one desktop to another. Lots of programs were running (aMSN,
Firefox w/ Flash, Epiphany, LibreOffice Writer, ...) but Banshee was not one of
them.

The bug hasn't been solved. I've just had gnome-shell crash *again* on
me. Even worse, I lost all my windows in one desktop.

The only way to resolve that hang is to power it off directly using the power

Just tried and reproduced this bug on my laptop too.
Problem is, on my laptop's keyboard, PrtScn and SysRq are on different physical
keys. So the automatic interpretation of Alt+PrtScn as a SysRq event is not
only counter-intuitive, it's plain wrong.

The answer that gbrainy is giving is incorrect. "Getting an even number"
is not both event, and has nothing to do with conditional probability,
it's just one event. 9/36 is the probability of getting TWO even
numbers.

I don't know if this has something to do with this bug or not, but when the
white Ubuntu logo appears on screen (XSplash? USplash? I don't know), it
doesn't look round.
However, after logging in, aspect ratios are OK, and the Ubuntu logo (e.g. in
the GNOME menu) does look round.
