I am reporting this bug from a different box.
I have tried to boot Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04 alpha 1 and daily
build (2011-12-17) on a Dell Mini 10. In both cases I got past the
'Ubuntu 12.04 with four dots' screen and then the machine froze with a
traceback.
I am

Binary package hint: selinux
This morning I was upgrading my hardy server and I was down to the
linux-server packages. They failed to install since selinux prevents
the execution of depmod. These are the relevant audit entries from the
kernel log:

How can I 'downgrade' from the ppa archive to the main repo? I have
commented out the ppa entry in /etc/apt/sources.list, then ran apt-get
update; apt-get upgrade but nothing new came out. How can I purge the
ppa from the apt cache?

Hi Colin,
I have no problem with closing this bug against the kernel package as
'Won't Fix'. But this tweak should be documented somewhere, in a
troubleshooting section of the documentation, otherwise we'll have some
other people hitting it and not knowing what to do.
On the other hand, the
Leann,
When I observed the bug I googled for answers, and one of them was to
increase the value in /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes to 16384 or 65536. I
chose the latter and now two and a half days later, under the same
workload (serving out my photo archive and home directories via nfs4)

I am using the Ubuntu Hardy Heron, updating almost daily.
I have set up a server with 4 GB of RAM, and two 750 GB disks in RAID1,
then created logical volumes using LVM, formatted them with XFS and
exported via NFS4.

It might be that one needs to restart the box. I have removed the
vboxdrv module then modprobed it again, and the device was created with
the proper ownership and mode:

My original report was mistaken. Even with the latest linux image
(linux-image-2.6.22-11-generic 2.6.22-11.33) I can change the LCD
brigthness using the gnome applet only when I boot using AC power. If I
start the computer and run on batteries, I cannot change the brightness.

I can confirm the problem report. It occurs on a Dell 490N with a
nVidia Corporation NV44 [Quadro NVS 285] card with the proprietary
nvidia driver and two monitors.
I can see the gtk-window-decorator running and I have similar entries in

I got it working by adding

OptionComposite Enable
EndSection
to the xorg.conf and also adding

It hangs as shown in the attached picture. After 5 minutes, I do get a
busybox shell. It is complaining about not being able to mount
/dev/hda2. In /dev, I don't have any hd*, but I do have sd* instead.
So, it is clear that the upgrade path is foobared. So, the only fix is
to patch /etc/fstab
Spoke too soon... my fstab is OK, but my menu.lst had the following
entry for kernel option:
# kopt=root=UUID=5c0c84ae-d485-4e96-aa6a-6213771f6eda ro
# kopt_2_6=root=/dev/hda2 ro
The UUID is correct, but he kopt_2_6 was taking precedence and all the
kernels were using the root=/dev/hda2 instead
I have the same symptom as described in this bug. I have apt-get-
upgraded to the latest packages (as of now, 2006-12-19 11:00 PM CST).
This appears to be a duplicate of #63628. I have added there the
following comment:
I have an Athlon box that had edgy and was recently dist-upgraded to
feisty.
I can confirm this. I have an Athlon box that had edgy and was recently
dist-upgraded to feisty. The old kernel (linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic)
boots fine, but the two new ones linux-image-2.6.19-7-generic and linux-
image-2.6.20-2-generic hang after discovering the mouse.
