It seems using 3.16.0-24 from this PPA fixes the issue -

[Bug 1383202] [NEW] Left touch pad button not working on Ubuntu (Gnome) 14.10 and kernel above 3.16.0-20

2014-10-20 Thread George Karavasilev
Public bug reported:

So, I've this Lenovo B50 laptop that runs Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 and for
some reason kernels:

3.16.0-23
3.16.0-22
3.16.0-21

Don't seem to recognise my left touchpad button, however it worked up to
kernel 3.16.0-20 and I've tested on Windows 8.1 (which I have installed
just in case) and the touchpad is perfectly functional and the left
button works like a charm. I am willing to provide any info you guys
need. Oh and - left clicking works with a mouse. Also - xorg edgers PPA
and using 3.17 mainline kernel don't seem to fix this.

[Bug 1118838] Re: There is no dark toolbar for symbolic theming

2013-07-15 Thread George Karavasilev
Hello there, Exalm!
Whilst applying your patch I get this console output:
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5877321/
Which means that your patch isn't made for the trunk version of light-themes
and it should be.
Grab the trunk by executing:
bzr branch lp:ubuntu/light-themes
and then make the patch suitable for it and upload the new version here.
Cheers! =)

[Bug 1181982] Re: Unity Tweak Tool: Hiding desktop icons triggers bug (frozen login screen is shown as background picture)

2013-07-02 Thread George Karavasilev
Phani, very well, that's a fair enough usecase, so if somebody can implement
that without causing the bug in the report that would be ace.
Oh and I imagine combination like this:
Label: Switch
Toggle Toggle Toggle Toggle
might look weird, because the size different on the label and text compared to
the the toggles, we might have to revert to the old 4 vertical checkboxes.

[Bug 1181982] Re: Unity Tweak Tool: Hiding desktop icons triggers bug (frozen login screen is shown as background picture)

2013-06-29 Thread George Karavasilev
Barneedhar, we could, but disabling nautilus handling the desktop also creates
another two issues:
 - Makes unity panel shadowless
 - Disables right click on the desktop
And also feel like overkill to me - don't like desktop icons? Don't put icons
on the desktop, simple as that.

[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session

2012-12-31 Thread George Karavasilev
So, it seems under 12.10 with Gnome 3 PPA the Input Sources are not ported
completely. This is how the look in the normal Gnome 3.6:
http://blogs.gnome.org/mclasen/2012/09/21/input-sources-in-gnome/
And in 12.10 w/ the Gnome 3 PPA that's not the case, hence the bug.
Jeremy, it does need fixing.

[Bug 841409] Re: GEdit is the only choice as Calendar application in Default Applications dialog

2012-04-05 Thread George Karavasilev
Ok, this bug seems to disappear when a proper calendar application is installed
(e.g. Maya in my case) (see the attached screenie).
Also, this is a bug is not a gedit one (captain obvious), cuz gedit's category
are:
Categories=GNOME;GTK;Utility;TextEditor;
and no:
Categories=GTK;Office;Calendar;
It's most likely caused by the fact that there is no out of the box calendar
app which makes me think - is there really a need for Calendar application in
Default Applications dialog?

[Bug 963140] Re: Dash picking a really odd color with default wallpaper

2012-03-30 Thread George Karavasilev
There is a dirty way to fix it:
Go to /usr/share/backgrounds and rename warty-final-ubuntu.png to
whatever-you-want.png (as in whatever name you want). Doing that will fix the
bug, but will make it unavaivable in the OTB wallpaper list, so go to
/usr/share/gnome-background-properties and edit the ubuntu-wallpapers.xml. The
first entry is the default wallpaper, rename
filename/usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png/filename to
filename/usr/share/backgrounds/whatever-you-want.png/filename
After that reboot and it should be fine.
However according to @om26er (and I'm willing to agree with him), the BG color
is written in libgnome-desktop there must be a problem somewhere in that code.
A few days ago it was saved in dconf now its moved to libgnome-desktop and the
issue started after that.

[Bug 940443] Re: gnome-settings-daemon can't start in Precise

2012-02-24 Thread George Karavasilev
Sure thing.
I start any gnome session (Unity, Pantheon, Gnome-Shell etc...) and they all
look broken. And by broken I mean:
GTK 2 apps look ugly (they use some fallback GTK 2 theme, see the equalizer on
screenshot I originally attached)
The fonts are not the fonts I've selected via Gnome-tweak-Tool (I use the
default Ubuntu font configuration),
GTK 3 apps have text below the icons in their toolbars, although I've not
enabled that. (see the screenshot I've attached to this comment)
In Unity GTK 3 apps (not GTK 2) have a menubar + appmenu. (see the screenshot
I've attached to this comment)
QT apps also use the same ugly fallback GTK 2 theme.
I believe that's all.

2012-02-24 Thread George Karavasilev
Nope, it doesn't happens in guest session :)
Yes, gnome-settings-daemon process is running :)
The terminal output from gsettings get
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings active:
me4oslav@me4oslav-laptop:~$ gsettings get
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings active
false
me4oslav@me4oslav-laptop:~$
I also took the liberty of investigating a bit more and found out something
that you may found interesting. Here is what I did: Created a new user and
logged in in Gnome-Shell and voila - no bug. Then I logged out and logged in,
but tnis time in Unity and the bug appeared.
However I'm not 100% sure that this is caused by Unity, cuz one of the affected
guys (Cassidy James) said to me that he was affected by it on a machine he is
been testing Pantheon (elementary OS DS). That and the fact that I logged in
Unity in Guest Session and there was no bug there :P

2012-01-20 Thread George Karavasilev
I can confirm it's fixed in Ubuntu 11.10 Unity 4.30 from the proposed repo :)
Evidence:  see the screenie :)
It think it's pretty safe to say that it can be tagged as Fix Released :P

[Bug 917047] Re: [5.0, Dash] Filter results pane is only partially visible

2012-01-19 Thread George Karavasilev
Open System Settings than click on Language Support. Next up click on
Install/Remove languages ... and install Russian.
After you've done that reboot your system, again navigate to language support
and apply Russian as system-wide language.
Than reboot again and you're done.
I believe that's it, through I'm not sure, I haven't used anything but English
(UK) for god knows how long time ...

[Bug 916114] Re: middle click should close app and not open new window

2012-01-19 Thread George Karavasilev
Right, all things considered here:
To close an app the user can A) Click the close button or B) Right click on
the launcher and then click on Quit. To open a new instance of an app the
user *must* A) Middle click on the app icon on the launcher.
Surely some apps have New window in their quicklists menu, but not all of
them. And even if all of the default apps have the New Window quicklists,
what happens with those that does not come out of the box. It's impossible that
EVERY app to be patched to have such quicklist.
So re-assigning middle-click to close instead of new instance will remove
the only way to open new window for EVERY app, which I daresay will not be a
good call :)
P.S. Still, doesn't this need need-design tag, @om26er?

[Bug 916114] Re: middle click should close app and not open new window

2012-01-19 Thread George Karavasilev
Right, but if the icons to the apps that have New Window quiclists get
patched and others don't a UX inconsistency appears, middle clicking on the
non-quicklisted apps will open new instance and middle clicking on the
quicklisted will close them. And apart from introducing inconsistent behaviour
this can be kinda confusing and makes the user remember which apps has the New
Window quicklists and which doesn't.
In my opinion, this should stay Invalid

2012-01-19 Thread George Karavasilev
Every app has a working middle-click :) For example an app without the New
window quicklist is Minitube.
And yeah, I agree with the statement that middle click will create all kinds
problems if it's set to Close instead of Open new instance, so that's why I
should stay Invalid. We're basicly splinting hairs :P

[Bug 916114] Re: middle click should close app and not open new window

2012-01-19 Thread George Karavasilev
Right, I took the liberty of restoring the status to new and adding the
needs-design tag. (This one obviously needs a design call)
However, @lokster, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't middle clicking on Win
7 superbar opens a new instance of an app?
And there is of course the argument that @Marco Biscaro introduced - To close
there is already right click - Quit. So will adding way to close an app (or a
group of them).
Anyway, like I said we can go on like this forever, but the thing needs a
design call :P

[Bug 912682] Re: Compiz add transparency to titlebar along with the panel

2012-01-16 Thread George Karavasilev
I *can* confirm that it happens for Intel and ATi videos (the 2nd with both
fglrx and the open source driver), however I'm unable to replicate it with
nVidia card (with both - the proprietary and the open source driver). It's
weird.
My Intel and ATi machines both run Unity 5.0 and the nVidia 4.28.0 and
according to @om26er it *should* be happening to all of the machines ... weird.

Well, there is not an option for titlebar opacity in CCSM, which kinda
indicates that this is more of a bug, but even if that's a fact, I still

[Bug 912682] Re: Compiz add transparency to titlebar along with the panel

2012-01-13 Thread George Karavasilev
Thinking of what @CassidyJames said and from pure design point of view I don't
consider transparent titlebars to be a good idea, because they break the
consistency with the window bellow them *BIG* time (Win 7, anyone). That means
even if this ... well whatever it is becomes a feature (gets fixed to look nice
with all themes, buttons should stay opaque etc...) it should not come enabled
out of the box.
Also, if panel transparency also affects the thumbs of the overlay
scrollbars, that's gotta be a bug.

[Bug 764321] Re: Please add launcher quicklist for banshee

2011-04-18 Thread George Karavasilev
** Description changed:

- One of the things that has been bugging with Unity is the lack or
- quicklists for the default apps. Firefox has only a New Window
- quicklist and Banshee has no quicklists at all. Surely this quicklists
- can be added with editing the .desktop, but it would be way better if
- they come by default. So what I did is that I edited the .desktop files
- for firefox and banshee and added Open a New Tab for Firefox and
- Play, Pause, Stop, Previous and next for Banshee. Check the
- .desktop files attached. I know it is not a lot actions I've added but I
- am planing to add more today. The .desktop files have been tested on
- Natty installation and they work.

[Bug 764321] Re: Please add launcher quicklist for banshee

2011-04-18 Thread George Karavasilev
Sorry about the attachment complication, next time I will attach the .desktop
files and the screenshot separately ;)
And the is only one .dektop file in the tarball - banshee.desktop, I dropped
the Firefox quicklist thing due to the fact that there is already such a bug
and Bilal Akhtar is his 'fixer'.
As far as testing goes I've tested it on two machines runing the latest and
greatest Unity and Banshee quicklists work like a charm (screenshots included
at the tarball), the .desktop file is strange, because quicklist syntax is bit
different from an ordinary .desktop file syntax. Here is the included stuff in
the .desktop file:
X-Ayatana-Desktop-Shortcuts=Play;Pause;Stop;Previous;Next;Preferences

[Play Shortcut Group]
Name=Play
Name[bg]=Изпълнение
Exec=banshee --play
TargetEnvironment=Unity

[Pause Shortcut Group]
Name=Pause
Name[bg]=Паузиране
Exec=banshee --pause
TargetEnvironment=Unity

[Stop Shortcut Group]
Name=Stop
Name[bg]=Спиране
Exec=banshee --stop
TargetEnvironment=Unity

[Previous Shortcut Group]
Name=Previous
Name[bg]=Предишна
Exec=banshee --previous
TargetEnvironment=Unity

[Next Shortcut Group]
Name=Next
Name[bg]=Следваща
Exec=banshee --next
TargetEnvironment=Unity

[Preferences Shortcut Group]
Name=Preferences
Name[bg]=Настройки
Exec=banshee --show-preferences
TargetEnviroment=Unity

Hoping I've cleared things up ;) If you have any recomendations to be
added to the quicklists I'm listening :)
