[Bug 912710] [NEW] Oneiric Thunderbird freezes on receiving mail
Public bug reported: After having switched to Oneiric a couple of days ago, Thunderbird freezes on receiving mail most (all ?) of the time. Running in safe-mode this is very easy to reproduce for me: Having an IMAP mailbox active, I ask someone to drop me a mail to that mailbox. I see the new mail in that mailbox summary, but Thunderbird is frozen completely. The only action I can take is to close (i.e. kill) it via the window manager. This is strace output: lulu:/home/ba ps -ef | grep thund ba1388 2156 1 11:29 pts/200:00:04 /usr/lib/thunderbird-8.0/thunderbird-bin -safe-mode ba1516 2155 0 11:34 pts/100:00:00 grep thund lulu:/home/ba sudo strace -p 1388 Process 1388 attached - interrupt to quit write(59, \17\0)\0?\0S\0c\0q\0\201\0\217\0\233\0\242\0\246\0\243\0\235\0\226\0\214\0\201\0..., 16560^C unfinished ... [Bug 776469] Re: Alacarte kills the Application menu in XFCE 4.8
This is a me too. It is very easy to reproduce this issue. I did it in a virtual machine. After installing ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso and adding xfce4 via apt- get, no ~/.config/menus exists for an xfce user. After starting alacarte and quitting it immediately by hitting ESC, the directory ~/.config/menus is created with two files: settings.menu and xfce-applications.menu. Immediately the xfce applications menu is no longer available exactly as Andreas described. I think I found one workaround: After having started alacarte once, I did: cp -p /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu ~/.config/menus For the time being every thing seems to work. I really hope that someone cares about the bug. Gerd P.S.: This does not happen in Xubuntu 11.04. The reason is _very_ simple: Xubuntu does not include alacarte, so there is no chance in Xubuntu to utilize one of the major features of Xfce 4.8. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776469 Title: Alacarte kills the Application menu in XFCE 4.8 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 772399] Re: About 50% of all annotation content is not saved at saving a copy of the pdf
Hi Marcel, thanks for responding. The bug is quite easily reproducible. Here is what I did: I prepared a plain file with 10 comments: lulu:/vm cat input.txt Comment #1 Comment #2 Comment #3 Comment #4 Comment #5 Comment #6 Comment #7 Comment #8 Comment #9 Comment #10 lulu:/vm The I copied /usr/share/doc/shared-mime-info/shared-mime-info-spec.pdf in my working directory. I then opened the file with evince and did 10 annotations always using cut + paste. Finally I hovered with the mouse over the annotations to assure they were all in place. This was the case. I then saved the file as shared-mime-info-spec-with-10-annots.pdf, which you will find enclosed. As you will see, comments #1, #2, #3 and #10 are fine. All other annotations have zero contents. Hope this helps Gerd Am 28.04.2011 22:35, schrieb Marcel Stimberg: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: 1. [Bug 324321] Re: [Intrepid]: screen not locked after resume
hyperair, thanks for responding. As you suggested, I tried using a fresh user - but nothing changed. I than found bug #42052, a very old bug, which seems to be still alive in Intrepid - at least for xfce-users. Citing from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/42052 Jarno Suni wrote on 2008-12-16: ... In Xfce4: Additionally choose Power Management in Screensaver preferences and choose a way to suspend/hibernate. You can not use the Ask me option in Power Management preferences like above (or you can, but it doesn't lock screen when you resume). Then use that way to suspend/hibernate. In summary: whenever you suspend/hibernate using the Quit dialog, screen will not be locked. So from my point of view this is true. So for the time being adding a script to /etc/pm/sleep.d is at least a solution for a real problem. It works for me and my data is safe now. If you give me further hints how to debug I'd really like to help to find the root cause though ! [Bug 324321] [NEW] [Intrepid]: screen not locked after resume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils Hi, after resume pm-utils on Intrepid lulu:/home/bav dpkg -l | grep pm-utils ii pm-utils 1.1.2.4-1ubuntu8 utilities and scripts for power management do not lock the screen. This way everyone has immediately access to my desktop. Think of ~/Private, which is unencrypted after resume !!! Looking at lshal output, I see modem.command_sets = {'GSM-07.07', 'GSM-07.05'} (string list) tied to the UDI with ttyUSB0. [Bug 173425] Hard freeze Gutsy, may be easily reproduced on a box running Feisty fine all the time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-generic Hi, running my laptop under Feisty really fine, I installed Gutsy on a separate partition. After some testing I found that trying to switch from X to console via e.g. CTRL Alt F2 completely locks the box. This is a real hard freeze. To get more information, I ran netconsole. I got [ 248.26] netconsole: network logging started on the listening side. Furthermore I was logged in via ssh on the Feisty box and I ran a ping against the Feisty box. When I press CTRL Alt F2 on the Laptop, - ssh does not respond any longer - ping gets no further pong - no messages via netconsole This may be reproduced at any time. The box in question is an old laptop (+3yrs) with Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device, running fine all the time. I use it all the time, so I am really sure, that this is an software issue. I really would like to help to track this down. Re: [Bug 89509] Re: Clicking Edit Partition shows wrong partition size
Colin Watson schrieb: OK, this is expected; the installer didn't detect any filesystem it knew about on sdb3, and at present it only shows a partition size in the Edit partition dialog for the purposes of resizing the filesystem, so you don't get a size displayed there if it can't resize the filesystem. Did you experience any other similar problems in this run, other than sdb3? Colin, wish you were here - you certainly would get me right in no time at all. But that's not possible - so I'll try to explain my problem better. I just started the edgy-ubiquity on the box in question - everything works as expected. I then started the new version coming with feisty. I choose Partitiontable manual. I want to install Feisty on /dev/sdb1 (root) and /dev/sdb2 (swap). I do not want to change any partition size. I highlight the line reading /dev/sdb1 ext3 /media/sdb1 6448 MB That's fine, there is an existing ext3 with an old edgy test installation. So I click Edit Partition. A new window pops up telling me: New partition size: 0# zero use as: ext3 mountpoint: /media/sdb1 From this point on I'm lost. I do not know the precise partition size, so I can't correct 0 to the right value in MB. To be able to read better the main window, I dragged the Edit Partition Window a bit aside. Strange enough: The value for new partition size jumped from 0 to 2000. Weird ... As I do not want to change my partition layout, I cancel the installation. Uuuuh ...
