On today's update, 10/10/08, the same error continued which had much more
serious consequences.
As the result of not being able to complete the update, it seems that the
manager wasn't able to update two packages: libxi6 and xinput. I go for a new
update (or the completion of the previous one)
I've got a little update on this situation. After a sudden act of despair, I
was able to find the causes for this mysterious freezes. The up to date
nvidia hardware controllers were indeed the cause of this problem. As a last
resort, I uninstalled them and the freezes and display distortions

Yesterday, 8/10/08, the Intrepid Beta update manager hanged on the line
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place.
Today, 9/10/08 it hanged on processing 'triggers' for man-db.
I guess it's a development, but it still doesn't show the update as a
successful one.

I confirm this crash, it happened just like sn99520 said. Appod asked if
I wanted to send a report but the wireless network continued to work
fine.

My audio always worked fine. Whether on Hardy or on the installation of

I've been pursuing the cause of these freezes for a long time. First I was told
it could be a screen-saver thing... so, I turned it off. Then I was told it
could be a problem with the graphic card but it can't, since I'm successfully
runing the latest manufacturer driver
I also confirm this crash next to the installation of the Beta release,
dated 4/10/08. The status of this error is Fix Released but it seems
that it didn't worked out for me.
