I have the same problem on uptodate Xubuntu 11.04 on an Acer Aspire One
(160GB HDD model)
Suspend was working fine, then suddenly I get the blank screen, still
backlit, and no response from keyboard, only thing I can do is hold down
the power button until it powers off. I don't get a suspend
Sorry, I meant 11.10 not 11.04 :(

Suspend/hibernate doesn't work on oneiric

I can confirm that USB sticks do not mount in Thunar under normal login
in Xubuntu 10.04, and that the fix sudo /usr/sbin/hald does fix the
problem. Now to find the way to run hald on boot. No doubt in the init
scripts somewhere but has anything changed in how this operates in
Lucid?

Xubuntu
Here is the fix:
sudo nano /etc/rc.local
add this above the exit 0, like so:
~~
/usr/bin/hald
exit 0
~~
Save
Ensure the execution bit is set:
sudo chmod u+x /etc/rc.local
reboot.
Inserting a USB stick should now work and appear in Thunar left hand
pane

This has just cropped up on my PC too (Xubuntu 9.10), after installing
lirc, hangs on bootup just before the login screen (slim). (smb.conf is
vanilla). Wouldn't work in recovery mode, told me about the nmbd pid but
wouldn't let me do anything about it so CTRL-ALT-DEL was necessary.

Hi Alexey / Vink
This all looks very promising.
How to apply patch please?
(or please post links to Alexey's patched kernel)
Thanks

Just to confirm, issue with dvb now fixed thanks to Alexey and Vink
(tested using Vink's custom kernel as above.
Question:
Will this patch be included in any further kernel upgrades, or do I have
to stay with this kernel version?
Regards
Jose

I get this too, with Xubuntu 9.10. A few flashes and then it gives up
and continues to boot, so I guess the filesystem is not being checked!

Nice find Vink :)
I may have an alternative solution. One of two things:
EITHER:
I installed linux dvb tv from source.
I grabbed v4l-dvb-9defbd461e5f.tar.gz from linuxtv.org
(http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/archive/tip.tar.gz)
and did the .configure, make and sudo make install on it. I went a
Sorry people, its been a long day, . but my solution was something
else.
In preparation for downgrading the kernel I added the custom rules file,
as indicated by Vink. This was all that was needed to fix the card and
TV playback on my system. I attach it in a zip. It needs to go here -
Anyone on the bug fixing team, anychance this is likely to get resolved
before, or in, Lucid Lynx?

Ah good, Giorgio, I was beginning to think I was the only one with a
problem like this.
I have tested dvb transmissions with VLC as well (in case it was an
mplayer thing) and get the same video artifacts and audio pops and
clicks.

Good news tuukka. What is playback like in mplayer, any clicks and pops
on the sound and artifacts on the video?

I can also confirm this bug on Karmic 9.10.
Good signal, but pops and clicks on sound and degraded video with
artifacts and swirls. Also only gives sound to one speaker when webcam
(USB) plugged in?
Works fine on Jaunty and has done since Hardy.
