[Bug 1901894] Re: One or more monitors turns off but system usable until monitor orientation change
Kai-Heng, yes the root was ZFS, but it's not anymore. I have reinstalled using btrfs on root and the latest kernel (5.10). [Bug 1901894] [NEW] One or more monitors turns off but system usable until monitor orientation change
Public bug reported: I'm having random lockups, sort of. When this happens, usually one monitor out of 3 (including laptop display) will turn off (one of the external monitors) sometimes both external monitors. Usually I can spawn new applications and the system is usable but if I try to detect the displays again or if I undock, all remaining screens go blank (normal) but don't return like usual. I'm unable to change to a new virtual console so all I can do is reboot. Sometimes I'm able to do a soft reboot (with power button), other times I have to hold the power button to do a hard shutdown. I'm not sure if it's related but I get this error in dmesg: [1.001281] BERT: Error records from previous boot: [1.001281] [Hardware Error]: event severity: fatal [1.001282] [Hardware Error]: Error 0, type: fatal [1.001283] [Hardware Error]: section type: unknown, 81212a96-09ed-4996-9471-8d729c8e69ed [1.001284] [Hardware Error]: section length: 0xc20 [1.001285] [Hardware Error]: : 0201 01002001 . .. [Bug 1604313] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking
This bug is still in 16.04. I seem to be able to work around this issue by closing the display while in the bug. Let the display orientation update so only the external monitor(s) is turned on, then undock the computer and finally open the display and close it again. But undocking the computer with the display open and then trying to make the computer sleep will always make it lockup so that the cursor is the only thing that's responsive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604313 Title: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1604313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also notice that the display changes are not detected properly. When I undock, there is no change in display orientation and I can still move the mouse over to the other screen which is not there (missing limb, still felt). When I run Displays ("unity-control-center display"), the screen flickers and the displays get rearranged but are still detected as if they are still connected. [Bug 999141] [NEW] Dual monitor DisplayPort stopped working.
Public bug reported: After I updated today using Update-Manager I can no longer use my secondary monitor which is connected via DisplayPort. This was a problem a few months ago and it seems to have creeped back into ubuntu? I used to use VGA while this was a problem and I have reverted back to that workaround. [Bug 954918] [NEW] Missing Server input box for Sametime accounts
Public bug reported: Hi, It is no longer possible to connect to sametime server because there is no Server input box undir Sametime accounts. This happened recently and according to a freedesktop.org bug report this happened when libpurple was upgraded from 2.10 to 2.10.1. Here is the explanation from the freedesktop.org bug report: With the latest version of libpurple (2.10.1) a change was made to the Sametime protocol: + Sametime: - Separate username and server when adding new Sametime accounts Although at first this seems harmless and only affecting the pidgin client, it seems that telepathy-haze can not handle this separation. When a new account is created for Sametime, the server details are no longer displayed. Also an old account (that has all the details already) no longer works due to the same issue. Adding the missing parameter to the accounts.cfg file (mission-control) causes that this parameter is ignored and removed. Returning to libpurple 2.10.0 resolves the issue and the server can be identified again when the account is created. - Raymond Wooninck https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44631 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: empathy 3.3.90.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-18.29-generic 3.2.9 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.94.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Mar 14 11:02:27 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: empathy UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-12 (1 days ago) ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/954918 Title: Missing Server input box for Sametime accounts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/954918/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 872209] Re: Cannot change display resolution or detect secondary display
Hi, It's sort of solved. After an update later on I was able to output to a VGA so I can now use Dual head. I am not able to use DisplayPort, however, but I do believe that a bug report has been made for that issue. I guess this one can be closed then. Thanks! @Forlong We're not being snotty and it's the functionality of the T60 is not up to the Ubuntu developers. [Bug 573472] Re: 'hostap-utils' causes soft lockup when booting lucid
It's because if you don't load orinoco_pci the hostap_pci wireless driver gets loaded instead. Both drivers support the card and the kernel doesn't know which one to load but orinoco_pci usually gets loaded for some reason. [Bug 461419] Re: [Karmic Lucid] Atheros AR5211 - ath5k driver connection and performance issues
I have to ask; since the first bug was filed, has there only been one card fixed? Am I the only one finding this absolutely pathetic? Ok, this card that got fixed has seen quite an improvement (I know because I have that card) but what about the other very common card AR5211. That card has been completely broken for years. It barely connects with ath_pci (and of course that driver causes kernel panics) and has been removed from Ubuntu and ath5k doesn't connect at all even with the computer next to the router. Both ath5k and ath_pci are so bad that I even resorted to ndiswrapper, which performed better but caused even more frequent lockups than ath_pci. IBM Thinkpad T40-43 are very common laptops and the fact that AR5211 does not work is quite a bad situation as it's embedded in many of these laptops. Laptops which many people use, after they have bought a new one, to test Linux for the first time. Can anyone answer why there seems to be no work done on that card? Is Atheros not interested in fixing the driver for that card or what? It would be nice to know because then I would know if I should throw that piece of junk AR5211 away and buy an Intel card, or not. [Bug 461419] Re: [Karmic Lucid] Atheros AR5211 - ath5k driver connection and performance issues
I just acquired an IBM Thinkpad T42p laptop and the ath5k driver is unusable with the miniPCI I have installed in the system. It is actually a Philips adapter from a T40p but that shouldn't matter. I'm on Lucid Lynx beta and I tried all stages as described above. Ever since I started using ath5k I've stopped getting the lockups. Everytime i started using the ath_pci I got lockups. I used to get lockups on ath5k but a lot less frequent so maybe you could try a more recent version. The last couple of months I did not get any lockups with ath5k and I haven't had any lockups on Karmic either and the Karmic ath5k seems to keep a more stable connection as well. [Bug 276508] Re: [intrepid] [Atheros AR5211] ath5k driver inoperative, wpa_supplicant never completes connection
Hi, I've always had this problem with the ath5k driver. However I tried the ath5k driver again about 2 months ago and had the exact same problem, so I tried changing the channel on my AP to something that wasn't being used by my neighbors and since then my connection has stayed relatively stable. It is relatively stable, however I do lose connection every 2-4 minutes without losing association with the AP. I don't really notice it unless I'm using streaming media. It's only like once or twice every 24 hours that I lose association with the AP but it connects again in about 30 seconds. Before I changed the channel I would get association for a few seconds before losing it again and most of the time it wouldn't associate at all. This only applies to my home connections which is encrypted with WPA- PSK. Usually I can't connect at all while in my University. Sometimes I get a connection but lose it after a few seconds. The University WiFi network is unencrypted. The ath_pci driver would stay connected without me changing the channel at home and could also stay connected in the University. However it caused kernel panics so I prefer ath5k when I'm able to use it. I would say that it's a regression that there isn't an option to use ath_pci karmic. [Bug 369005] Re: juanty ath5k : disconnection / slow network
Same messages here: ath5k phy0: unsupported jumbo I also get this message sometimes: ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration failed I'm on jaunty and initially I couldn't even connect to my AP at home. It wasn't until I changed to a free channel I could connect. Now I have a full connection but it's not fast at all. I also lose the connection once every minute or two without being de-associated. Sometimes I do get de-associated though. When in the University library I usually can't associate at all and when I do I lose the connection after a few seconds. This is when I'm using the ath5k driver. To be able to get wireless in the Library I have to unload ath5k and use ath_pci. That driver keeps a more stable connection, however it causes random kernel panics and I hate losing my work! -- juanty ath5k : disconnection / slow network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369005 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 300693] Re: Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock
About 5 days ago I tried going back to ath5k by disabling ath_pci and the result seemed to be just like before where I would disconnect all the time but getting less frequent lockups. Then I tried the linux- backports-modules-jaunty (sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules- jaunty) and everything has been great since. The connection is stronger and more stable than the older ath5k and also ath_pci and I haven't gotten a lockup yet and that's about 4 days ago whereas ath_pci would do it at least once a day. Another thing that seems to be fixed is that ath_pci and the older ath5k would disconnect quite frequently (though ath5k much more often) and finally not being able to connect at all. I have not experienced that yet with this new module. I'll report back if I experience a lockup. [Bug 306022] Re: Panics while using iwlagn wifi on some networks
Hi Leann, I'm currently on jaunty. Have been for the last month or so. The ath5k driver was completely unusable, it kept disconnecting every minute... It also had the lockups but not as frequent as ath_pci (madwifi) if I remember correctly. So, I'm currently using ath_pci with the constant lockups... Happens like once to twice a day. I will switch back to ath5k again right now in case there have been any developments for the last month. I'll report back. -- Panics while using iwlagn wifi on some networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've had this happing almost every day since I last wrote here and never has linux-crashdump booted into it's debug kernel to do it's thing. I don't know what to do. [Bug 300693] Re: Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock
I've had this problem ever since upgrading from Intrepid. I did a fresh install of Jaunty, hoping that would fix it but it persists. The only proprietary driver that I use is the ath_pci. I could switch back to ath5k for a few days to produce debug information for this bug. I have installed the linux-crashdump package to capture a dump next time it happens. Let's hope crashdump works this time. -- Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 344385] Re: Brightness notification works only with Human Icons
For some reason my volume stopped working the other day. I've tried creating a symlink (ln -s notify-osd notify_osd) but that does not do anything. All packages are up to date. Strange thing is, it was all working fine and then one day it decided to go away. That's about 5 days ago, I believe. To my knowledge, all other notifications work. I thought I would mention that I'm on a ThinkPad T60. Thinkpads have had problems with the volume up and down keys before. However, for the first time they were working correctly and also with notifications after I installed Jaunty, until a few days ago, like I just described in the post before this one. -- Brightness notification works only with Human Icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 343727] Re: [Jaunty] Cannot connect to a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000
I can confirm this bug. The bluetooth manager reports that it's successfully connected but the mouse does not come out of discovery mode. But executing hidd --search gets it connected and takes it out of discovery mode. The mouse successfully reconnects after reboot and it does not disconnect after a period of inactivity like some people have reported. The mouse worked fine on Intrepid, however I don't remember if I had hidd installed or not. -- [Jaunty] Cannot connect to a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this bug. I've been having kernel panics either after I upgraded to intrepid or since I started using a wireless network with WPA encryption.
